Pays to belong to AAA - not spam(!)

Yesterday my car wouldn't start, completely dead, oil, engine and battery light came on each time I turned the key. I decided to let it sit overnight and maybe I'd get lucky and it would start this morning. Nope. So I called AAA for a tow, I told her they might try to jump the battery first just in case, but the last time this happened (in April) I had to be towed.

Car comes, no tow truck. It's AAA's battery service, I told him I was expecting the tow truck. He said first he'd try the battery and he asked me when I bought it(it was an AAA battery that I had had to buy once under similar circumstances). I was annoyed because I thought it was a waste of time, the car would have to be towed, but I actually found the receipt for the AAA battery among my papers. The guy looked at the date and said "You bought this in Oct. 2008, it's still under the AAA battery service warranty - that is if the battery goes dead before 3yrs. is up you get a free battery". And I did. He put a new one in and the car started right up.

I guess I'd better read up on my AAA benefits! I thanked him for being so honest and also for making me go find the receipt. ha.
