Do you have cable, satellite, TV antenna or something else?

We just have an outside antenna.

my wife got me the best Christmas present ever last year, a Logitec Harmony remote. you program it thru your PC. enter your model number of each device in the program, it retrieves the codes and dumps them to your remote. you even tell it what devices to turn on for what activity. it is truly the only remote i have ever seen that does all functions of the originals. i included a link below. mine took the place of 12 remotes. i even have read of people using them to control lighting and gas fireplaces, though i don't. the only drawback is that you must be connected to the internet to program it, and i only have dial up at home so it can sometimes take a while. I think it'll be fine, especially if you're careful about the finish. Your house is pretty much now, and so is the style kitchen you've pictured, and the wide arch. The word "transitional" is overworked, but generally fits anything that has past elements in today's design framework, and that's really what you have pictured. The word "Shaker" applies to the simple recessed panel, not the minimalist design philosophy here. The woods in your picture of the stairs are honey colored (medium golden brown) and in your kitchen drawing they're more spice (medium-dark orange brown). Since you're opening up your house rather than separating off the kitchen, I'd be more concerned with making the woods work together than the cabinet style (which by being so simple should go with anything). Just make sure you're happy with the choice you make! There's no point starting otherwise.

Hello with an update: So, I contacted many HVAC companies and it was a hassle to even get them to understand what I wanted. Most have never even heard about Make up air... The company that serves our HVAC unit sent someone and gave us an estimate of $1500.00 to do the make up air through the HVAC system (but they were upfront they had never done this before and actually took a while to do their research into Fairfax code, etc..). I had another HVAC contractor give me the same quote. I kept looking (with no luck) and then I had the idea of calling Bray and Scarf (sp?) to ask them for a recommendation, since I am pretty sure they sell this kind of hood. They told me to call R.A. Dobson (heating, ac and plumbing) and they came over. They wanted to do something simpler, without involving the HVAC unit. George (their guy) said he didn't think the HVAC could support and work efficiently with the addition of the make up air damper. He gave me a quote of $1400.00. At this point, I have decided to just have my contractor do the simple version of it, without involving the HVAC unit and he is charging me $1200.00. I went with him because his price includes everything, including fixing the walls, the roof part, etc. The other companies don't fix dry wall or deal with the roof part. But yeah, if I had known it was so complicated and expensive would have gone down to a 300 CFM hood.

It's actually built up and routed. I did not want any hard corners in my bathrooms. I don't believe the coving was $40-50 per foot upgrade because a couple of my shelves weren't much more expensive than that, total. I will try to look back and see.

digital cable w/ broadband internet. my sis & i just spent a week at my old place in chicago w/o TV or internet other than going to our dad's place w/ regular cable & no internet :-0 we promptly found a hotel for our next visit up there lol can't live w/o those ammenities lol ~ liz

Rabbit ears with the converter box. I refuse to pay $60 or more a month for cable. I don't know what I was thinking when I did pay that much. I am liking all the new stations I am getting with the converter box and rabbit ears. I get a really good movie station and a retro station plus PBS's Create station.

I have a smallish satellite tv program package and then have an antennae for all the local and PBS channels.

I figure it is the best of both worlds without being too expensive.

At the house in the suburbs, we have cable (TV and Internet)

At the country house? Nothing. I refuse to pay 2 cable bills. The country area is too 'fringe' for the converter boxes to work, even with an attic antenna. Well, I can get 2 channels--one is CBS which I NEVER watch, and the other is a minor PBS station (the kind that's years behind the PBS stations in major outlets). So I just don't even bother with TV. I listen to radio, I catch some TV shows on the internet, but you know what? I don't miss TV nearly as much as I would have thought. And I get a LOT more done around the house.

Direct Tv satellite. DH HAD to upgrade to HD. Frankly, I don't notice a difference, but whatever...

When we moved here 7 years ago, there was no such thing as cable, so we opted for the dish and we LOVE it! I'd never go back to cable. This area used to be a prison about 15 years ago, so there were no cable lines.

Direct TV. No other options here. Antenna only gets us 3 stations (NBC, CBS and FOX) in English and a couple in Spanish.

Cable. Comcast provides cable, telephone, and broadband internet. At $160, It's my biggest monthly bill.
