that ever lived on our earth? I'm talking looks, personality, selflessness. Mine is Paul Newman. Those eyes, those dimples, that face -- I really don't think there is anyone who can compare. Except my hubby.

How could I have left out Cary Grant!! Not only was he as handsome as the day is long but he was incredibly funny, too. I watched (for the umpteenth time) "Bringing Up Baby" last night with CG and Katherine Hepburn. Hilarious!

My mind went immediately to actors, even though you didn't specify that. So if redcurls hadn't mentioned John Kennedy Jr. I wouldn't have thought of him. But I have to agree - absolutely, incredibly handsome.

We do not post publicly how the Stout vote breaks down by region since that is not a requirement to win the Award. You can find the HM and AM results posted by region, since votes must come from 4 regions for the HM and 8 regions for the AM. But with the Stout,it is simply the cultivar that gets the most votes. The number of judges varies by region. There are more judges in the regions with the most AHS members. Region 2 has our largest number of members, and also the largest number of judges. Region 4 is the second largest region and it has the second largest number of judges. Some regions with low numbers of AHS members ( Regions 7, 8,9) also have fewer judges.I don't think that having the largest regions represented by the largest number of judges would skew the vote. It would just give an accurate representation of what our membership reflects. Most, but not all, judges vote each year!

OJ, I'm sorry for the loss of your cousin. I hope you were able to meet up with the others from that area while you were there, as you'd hoped. I'm not following what you mean in your last post ("How can we let this (cold) story do the same??"). Do you mean how can we let this story die? If so, I guess I think it should ... the "15 minutes of fame" has about run out. I don't think they should get the publicity that they're seeking, because it's not the miracle that they, and some of the media, are claiming. It's a woman having a baby (ok, that in itself is a miracle of nature, but you know what I mean :-) I know a transgendered person. Was male, became female. And to me she is a she and there's no question about it. She went all the way, had the surgeries, is a woman. I applaud her for the courage it took to do so. Can you imagine the social prejudices she had to endure throughout the course of the change, and even still? She must have been very, very sure of what she wanted if she went through all that. And now she's happy. How wonderful! But in this case, Thomas didn't do that. Physically he's still a woman doing what most women do - having a baby. (OJ, regarding your PS, I don't know if you're joking or if it's a real question, but "letter carrier" is the accepted term whether male or female).

This was one of the best episodes and I think it was because the 'celebrity' was not only interested in learning about his ancestors but he actually had an interest in American history. It doesn't hurt either that Rob Lowe is handsome and has stunning blue eyes. However good looks aside it was interesting to hear his comments and questions as his family history was revealed. It wasn't the usual 'awesome' 'wow' 'amazing' - there were some but then he followed up with a complete sentences or questions. I used to live just outside of Newton, PA and it is a lovely town north of Philadelphia. However you would think someone would have told them that the name is pronounced 'new town' and not 'new ton'.

The house I bought a couple years ago (and have yet to move into) was painted top to bottom, recarpeted in the bedrooms and completely and heavily staged for sale. The house was first renovated for sale in 2007 and I guess because the market dropped they kept it off the market. But the house was not really lived in for three plus years. In 2007 new cheap replacement windows and a new cheap kitchen and bath went in. When I bought the house in 2011, there were still packing materials in the DW and oven. Prior to the 2011 placement on the market the entire house was painted a dark khaki with a orangy brown undertone, and the trim painted a dark khaki with a slightly pinkish undertone. (?) And carpeted in decent quality dark khaki carpet. Then it was heavily staged with dark transitional microfiber and espresso-stained furniture. I don't know if it wouldn't have been better to paint the entire inside off-white and call it done. It was neutralized, it was furnished inoffensively, but it was all rather depressing anyway. It did cover a lot of previous sins, I guess. The owner was "artistic" and one room had been Yield sign Yellow, with Stop sign Red trim. Another pale green faux finish with french blue trim. Hideous. But the staging, although neutral, didn't really showcase the house. And, when it came time to rent it, the tenants asked that I change the depressing brown color and depressing brown carpet. The carpet stayed, it literally still smelled like new carpet, but I did paint their bedrooms since they supplied the paint. I actually thought the house looked better empty, and cleaner than it had been, once I covered some of the khaki. I know staging is considered important in some regards but I am not sure it affected my decision to buy the house, and the tenants didn't like it either. (although their furniture looks an awful lot like the staging furniture, generic transitional).

In all those categories, I have to say Robert Redford is right up there with Paul Newman.

I still would let Tom Selleck, Sam Elliott, Antonio Banderas, and Hugh Jackman eat crackers in my bed! LOL

Some of you may think I'm nuts, but I've always had a crush on Joaquin Phoenix (he played Johnny Cash in Walk the Line). Something about those eyes. I think I read something a while back about him having some sort of meltdown though.
I guess we're going on mostly looks since it's hard to know a famous person's REAL personality and selflessness, without knowing them personally...

Vicki7, when I named Redford and Newman, I went by their looks along with the good works they've been known for toward their fellow man, animals, children and the environment.

Caroline 1947, I'm a Grandma and great Gran, but I hear ya about beautiful Josh Morrow. You should've seen the look on my son's face when I told him he resembles Josh. :)

Rock Hudson was absolutely GORGEOUS. In my opinion, he was probably the most handsome male actor that there's ever been.

Others that I like the looks of - Kevin Costner (he has that everyman/neighbor/friend look about him but he's still cute)

I loved Robert Mitchum, certainly not handsome in a conventional sense but even when I was a little girl and didn't even know what was supposed to be sexy - my favorite old movie was "Thunder Road". The man could drawl out a word or take a puff off his cigarette and I thought he was the epitomy of what a man should sound like and act like.

Patrick Swayze and John Travolta - they both have/had a dancers' grace and esp. in Swayze's case, the good looks to go with it. Although Travolta, to me, was sexy even as Michael, feathers falling out of his coat, as he was dancing to Chain of Fools! LOL

I had a crush on Yul Brenner, too, Glenda. Still do :-) I always preferred Robert Redford over Paul Newman. I totally love Sidney Pointier. That voice makes me melt! But George Clooney tops my list. He's so darned cute!!

Rose, did you see Alan Rickman as the sheriff in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves? When I watched Sense and Sensibility with Rickman, couldn't believe it was the same guy. Quite an actor.

A funny story about Rock Hudson.

My girlfriend/roommate & I decided to attend the premiere in our city of RH's new movie. This was in 1959. Forgot it's name, but it was a drama with the backdrop of the California Wine Country. I think Jean Simmons had the female lead, but don't quote me. We never saw the movie.

Anyway, it was dark when we got to the area of the theater, and there were numerous long black, what we assumed were mostly decoy, limos
circling the block for half an hour. Probably over a dozen.

My girlfriend had her small flash camera with her, figured Rock Hudson was a passenger in one (the windows were all pretty much blacked out & it was winter dark) did a quick ennie-meenie-minnie-moe, ran up to one limo & quickly snapped a picture.

Of course in those days you had to wait for photos to be developed. And we certainly didn't know WHAT would be on the picture given the circumstances.

We opened the photo package a week later, with somewhat trembling hands, & there was ROCK HIMSELF, in the act of lighting a cigarette, sitting between two very burley-looking guys, probably bodyguards.

I managed to locate this girlfriend a few years ago & unforunately she has no idea what ever became of that photo.

Yes I loved him in both of those and he was great in Die Hard too. I just watched him as Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. He may only be in a few scenes in that movie but he owns every one of them. I read somewhere that he is the best actor to not have been nominated for an Oscar!

Voted #8 on Empire Online's list of 50 Sexiest Movie Men. 52% of readers voted that he should have been higher on the list. [Oct 2009].

Of course I can be added to that 52%!

When I was in high school, I thought Jeff Chandler was the best looking man around. He was in old black and white war movies! Tom Selleck replaced him in my heart when Magnum, PI came on TV. I think the next guy to come along was Ioan Gruffudd...he played Horatio Hornblower in that series. He seemed to have the same type of good-guy personality, was a gentleman, full of character and exuded pure sexiness.
My husband is the best of all, though. He has all the physical attributes that turn me on - broad shoulders, strong jaw, big nose, and big hands. Isn't that weird? I know that he will always take care of me. It is just in his DNA.

Forgot to add that during my younger years all of my friends and I had a BIG crush on James Darren, from all the Beach party movies. One friend had an 8 X 10 BW photo of him framed and setting on her nightstand. We hated her for it! LOL

Also, Sam Elliot could recite the alphabet for me and I would think that it was wonderful! LOL It's not so much his looks (he's not a big guy) as it is his wonderful, distinctive voice. OOOOh eeeee!

From Dances with Wolves, Wind in his Hair. When they are leaving the tribe at the end, he is in the canyon saying good bye. I get goose bumps just thinking of him. Anytime that movie runs and my husband sees it, he'll just wait until that part and blast it through the house. If it's not on and things are a little strained in the house, he'll put the dvd in, fast forward and watch me melt. Oooh. I love it.

Two.25acres OH I am the same about that movie ! I am not a repeat movie watcher, but I will watch that one over and over and I named my little Mini Horse..Ukiah totonka Oh-watch-chee ! LOL
I have alot of American Indian in me, and I LOVE everything about that movie and I still cant watch the wolf get shoot without crying !

lavon46, you just gave me goosebumps and I'm tearing up. My boss is going to think I'm having hot flash but my husband who I work with, knows the look. Same here with the native american blood lines, maybe it's just something we're able to feel. I also have a hard time with the wolf scene. I think I'll have to watch the movie soon, maybe over the upcoming labor day weekend. I'm feeling the Godfather saga as well.

For as long as I can remember...Sam Elliot was it..then his voice weakens my knees. Mark Harmon is another at the top of the list.

Yes, Mike Rowe's up there too. he's not handsome, but like Joe Namath in his time, an everyman look . That's appealing too.

Clint!!!! I've read all the posts, but none of these guys can hold a candle to Paul Newman -- wellll - maybe Anthony D'Ofornio, Chris Meloni, the lead singer in Creed, lol. Clooney and Brad are all too short!! I need a big man to hover over me. lol.

How could I forget country singer, Josh Turner? He was co-host in the last hour of the Today Show this morning...I'm so glad I saw it.

Not only is he easy on the eyes, but he also has such a strong bass singing voice and his deep speaking voice is beyond charming. :)
