Grandson's tooth fairy note

2nd grade grandson needed to have a baby tooth pulled at the dentist this week because it wouldn't fall out. (Same problem his uncle and grandfather had.) The tooth fairy always writes a note and leaves money. What a thrill! The tooth fairy used all his vocabulary words for this week in her note! My daughter is a really good mom.

I had to write the tooth fairy a note for my grandson.

Lost his tooth at Dairy Queen. I put it in a napkin and acciidentally a helper cleared the napkin off our table, as we were disposing of our lunch tray.

My girlfriend just drew one on her own....it was basically like a heart shape at the top and came down to form two root like shapes...Like a W only she rounded the bottom points a bit. She made them from leftover satin fabric and just added a little pocket on the front to put the tooth in. She added a hanger so the kids could hang it from a dresser knob. It is small and easy enough to do (quick too)....so rather than a whole fancy pillow maybe a little tooth shaped item will do......I think the whole thing was 6" long and about 4" wide. Coincidentally, a bunch of us at work were talking about the tooth fairy at lunch a couple of days ago. It was interesting to get an international perspective. Folks on my team come from all over: Netherlands, Venezuela, China, Greece, India, Hungary, Iran, and a few boring caucasian Americans like me. Most of them said their tooth fairy was like ours, or that they didn't have one at all. I thought the most interesting a the woman from Iran who said that their tooth fairy didn't leave money. Instead, she (all tooth fairies are "she", right?) left small toys. Sounds like a good option if you don't want the kids to get too into money at a young age. Here we've had "golden" dollar coins for over 20 years. When DD was small the tooth fairy brought a shiny $1. Once when we were away on vacation she lost a tooth but none of the local stores had any shiny $1 coins so I had to polish one up with Coca Cola :-) When I was younger I was nanny for three small children. It turned out their family tradition was to put teeth in a glass of water on the bedroom mantel for the Tooth Fairy to collect. The first time it was a major pain trying to fish the tooth out of the glass in the dark quietly so after that I made sure they used a glass that had a matching one and switched the tooth glass with one containing the money :-) Then there was the time I came home to find one child hysterical as a newly-lost tooth had gone down the bathroom sink. So we wrote a nice letter to the Tooth Fairy, telling her where the tooth was so she could use her magical powers to get it out. It worked ;-)

I remember losing a tooth at my grandmother's house. It went missing, and I was so upset that the Tooth Fairy would not stop by. My mother and my grandmother assured me that leaving a note would be just as effective as leaving the tooth...and it worked!

My DS and I jeweler-folded his first baby tooth into a bright pink note paper. We enumerated the special values: First Tooth, Very Small, Very Clean, Very White.

I think he got a quarter. (Tooth Fairy knew there were many more baby teeth to come.)

Do you remember the feel of a loose baby tooth in your mouth -- hanging by one corner -- displaying it to your mom -- worrying it with your tongue?

What I remember is, I always had to pull my sister's when it got to hanging on and bothersome, because she couldn't do it herself. But, I could never do it to my son. His aunt said, let me see it, and yanked, instantly pulling it, after he and I both fiddled with it. Glad I'm not a shark and still losing teeth!

I can't find the original, but my son's was funny: Dear tooth fairy, my tooth fell out and I lost it. I am sorry. If you don't believe me you can check my mouth for the hole. But when you're done checking, please close my mouth.

I never could pull my kids' hanging teeth. It just had to happen some other way. I had forgotten about all this and now have it to look forward to with the grandkids.

Louise -- What a hoot!

I still have some of DS's baby teeth and the note. They are in a little Venetian chest in my bedroom. The guy who stole my jewelry must have been surprised by what he found when he rifled that drawer!
