'my weekend,' forgot to add the first bad event! lol

While listing all the "things that went wrong" this past weekend, I managed to forget the first event that kicked off snowballing chain of events. (Pray it doesn't snow now!)

The long weekend began with a horrible odor emanating from under the kitchen sink. It was vile. After removing the three Rubbermaid bins that hold cleaning supplies and peering into the abyss, we discovered the drain coming out of the garbage disposal has been leaking, and leaking, and leaking. Ugh.

When we moved in last fall, I made a false-floor for the sink cabinet. The 45-year-old one was stained, warped, peeling, and nasty looking. I scoured it clean, and cut a "new" floor to use until we worked our way through the house to the kitchen remodel. The temporary floor made the under sink area appear brighter. It lost its luster when soaked with grey water from the disposal. Shudder.

We removed everything, cleaned and dried the cabinet, and sealed off the left-hand sink so no more water could leak out through the garbage disposal.

The plumber was to be here by Wednesday; we knew he could quickly remove the disposal and re-rout the sink drain. That would work until we replaced everything in the fall with the new kitchen.

Of course, now the plumber has been delayed a week too.

The party continues!

I fixed my undersink cabinet floor with a suggestion I saw here. It worked great. I had a particle board cupboard floor under the sink that had bubbled up and started to flake from water dripping from the poor seal on the garbage disposal. Once it was fixed, the bottom of the cupboard looked awful and continued to flake. I bought the cheapest self sticking floor tiles at Home Depot and tiled the cupboard floor. Looks great and cleans up easily. In fact, I liked the look so much that I covered all my cupboard shelves with the self sticking tiles.

Sween, did anyone complain about the rain? The rain and the warm weather are making my cannas explode!!!! I swear they doubled in size last night! Springcherry - as usual you amaze me with your generosity. I have one lutea. I think it hates it's spot (too much sun) but now I'm thinking twice about moving it. Maybe I can spread seeds in better spot and that will work out.... did you look at the fleece flower link?? I think you need one too! let me know, it gets big (5'x5'). Carol I think it's easy to propagate, I had a few stems that broke off just below soil level, they rooted as soon as I stuck em in the dirt again! I was trying to be subtle with the "Is it a kind of Corydalis?" comment...... I'm pretty sure it's Corydalis cheilanthifolia and I'm pretty sure I need it in my garden and I'm pretty sure no one will be able to trust me around any stray seed pods. Gerry please don't make a plant thief out of me. Kato Oh and hi sweet blooms! I don't know much about your squash plants, but the tiny worms were probably just eating the dying roots. Get ye to the dollar store and get ye some 10 cent seed packs of zuchini! Now that it's finally warm the seeds will sprout in a couple days and grow faster than you can believe and you'll never miss the quitters that died. First Real Snow / Ice Event. Who is getting what, and how much?

2" on the ground and still coming down. Its 24F. I think that is as warm as its going to get today here. Its a very dry, light, fluffy powdery snow here. VERY beautiful /scenic snowfall. The big problem is that every flake that has fallen / will fall, is sticking to every surface. The roads here are as bad as I have seen them for only having 2" on the ground. What is turning to slush is just refreezing. Going down to about 15-18F again tonight. If the clouds clear out after dark, and with this snow cover on the ground it could get VERY cold here. They have pretty much written the next storm off for us. Im very glad too. I hope it goes out to sea and stays there. Although after a brief warm up to the mid 30's tomorrow and Saturday, were going right back down to below freezing for daytime highs here next week. The jackpot for this storm is central and southern Virginia, and the high plateau / elevations of the Allegheny front in W. VA, and the ridge tops of the Blue Ridge. But then again, its been snowing on the high plateaus of the Allegheny front for two weeks now and theyve had a couple of feet for a couple of weeks now. Laura, on the news they said Suffolk got about 4-5", and its now clicked over to sleet and freezing rain there. How much did you get?

Have not read entire thread so forgive me if I am suggesting/asking stuff already covered. Not sure what area you are in but do you have good cell coverage? Could you do without a landline? Can you get internet thru satellite or cable? When I had small kids I would not give up landline in case of 911 emergencies. When they got to where I thought they could accurately report address I dropped landline and we all have cells as well as an emergency cell that is pay as you go. It is charged and sits in kitchen. Also a couple years ago our area allowed us to voluntarily register our cell numbers with our address. I have since made 911 calls and they asked are you calling from home and able to then connect us to our address. I know that I really like the savings! Best of luck in your new home. Again, if you have small kids the cheapest landline might be a good idea. Maybe this really isn't about what you are asking but just my thoughts.

HAHAHA!!! To think, I'm just wanting to sell this stuff so I can go to Texas to see Slow and Flag!!lol! I really appreciate Everyone's support with this! I ran into a guy today at the local Flea Market, who was at the Garden Show(I remembered him cuz he had these HUGE Calla Lillies, like on steroids!!) and he told me to get my butt down to Victoria next weekend to a show down there that is for Mother's day, he said there is way more shoppers and it's Mother's Day!!! I'm thinking of looking into it tomorrow, as I seem to be as free as the breeze these days...Bachelorette #1, come on down!!!heh heh! When DHs away, the wife will play!!heh heh!

... in fours and fives (rather than the usual threes).

Don't envy you this one, either.

Can you put a bucket under the offending leaker? Sounds like "No".

Caroline, I feel your pain. I have a yucky under the sink look as well, oh, I should say "had".

I used a non slip mat, designed for bath tubs under there. Looks pretty nice, and made everything lighter, as it is whitisch.

I guess, I better keep an eye on it, and see if it gets wet. Thanks for making me think.

I just looked, and so far, all is still dry under there.

But, I want to report, it is not that hard to take a garbage disposal out, and re do the pipes. I have done it before, and will do it here too, once all other more pressing things are taken care of.
