Speaking of kids with funny names...

Anyone want to hazard a guess how this one is pronounced:

La-a.

They were talking about names on the radio a couple of days ago, and a nurse in a maternity ward called in to say this was the strangest.

Take a guess. I will be back to tell you later, if you can't pronounce it.

I read this on the internet the other day. A mom was having trouble potty training her soon to be 3 yo. son and they had made a quick stop at a Taco Bell for lunch when the mom detected an odor. She first checked her baby and it's diaper was fine so she asked the boy if he had had an accident and the boy said no. She continued to eat and kept smelling poop and asked him again if he had an accident and he again said no. She began to get angry as she did not have a change of clothes for him and asked again if he had an accident and the boy got up, pulled his pants down, pointed his butt at his mom, and said see, no poop, it's farts, it's just farts! I hear ya CR,we went thru the same thing with neighbors quite a few years ago.We raised afghan hounds,and the kids next door were always teasing them as well.Then one day my kids came home from school and called me at work and said,"Mom you need to come home,something is wrong with alfie and sheik. I rushed home only to find our pretty blonde dogs were covered in something purple,it was also all over the chain link fence,the grass etc.I called the next door neighbor,showed it to her and asked if she knew what it was.Come to find out she had bought this big a** bottle of gentian violet in TJ,and her kids got hold of it and threw it all over the dogs. I took them to the vet,he said it wouldn't hurt them,but it would take time to wear off.I was glad they weren't hurt,but she wasn't happy when i gave her the vet bill. Kathi

Thanks everyone for your nice compliments...That is my granddaughter Emmy on the left,she is 10, my daughter's name is Aimee, she is 36. And absolutely.. 911 should have been called, she had no idea how serious it was. The doctor said more then likely what saved her life is at that time in her life, before she was working.. she was at the gym 6 days a week and ran 5 miles a day, she was and still is very fit.

That's it. La Dasha. Think of that poor kid going all through her life having to explain her name. I hope she has a reasonable middle name she can use.

They had one in the local paper this week that took me a while to figure out. Eoghan. I knew it translated to something more common but it took a while for it to register. It's a variation of Owen. Why not just use Owen? Eoghan might be a common name is Ireland but around here that kid is going to be explaining and spelling his name constantly I think.

We get some interesting ones in our neck of the sagebrush. My mom came across G'Ne, I've seen Utahna and Udell just off the top of my head. I have seen some that make me shake my head. Just picked up the phone book: Tona, Dagan, Feeron, Kordell, Ramzi, Rondald, Mardel, Faline, Drema, Julee, Valeer, Therlon. These are ALL first names in the phone book. I couldn't make this stuff up!

My friend taught a little girl whose first name was pronounced "Fee-Mawl-ee". Yep you guessed it, the mom didn't have a name for the baby when she was born, so the birth certificate read "Female Jones". The mother thought that the doctor had named the baby girl.

We know someone who named their daughter Sirjean. WTF? That is a horrible name for a girl. You can't make this stuff up.

I knew a couple who named their twin daughters Luscious and Precious. And I know a family whose last name is "Cabbagestalk". Remember the Cabbage Patch doll craze? I always think of the Cabbagestalk family. HAHA.

A friend of mine worked in the nursery at a local hospital and was constantly telling us some of the funny names....The one that really made us "wonder" was Shi'thead, which was pronounced, Sha thade but looking at the way it's spelled, you know what the poor kid would get in school......
