I read once to put it in water and when it comes to a boil it's done. Doesn't really matter, my sis and her family often eat it raw from the garden.

I like mine soft, so I boil about 10 to 12 minutes.

If it still has the husks on it you can put it in the micro-wave for about 5 to 6 minutes, and If the husk is gone I wet a paper towel and wrap around it and that works good too.

I don't boil...I steam corn on the cob.

Bring water to a boil in the steam pot, then put corn in, lid on....and let sit for 10-15 minutes.

No water soaked corn.

Boil pot of water, when it's at a full boil, put in corn and cover and turn off the heat. It'll be ready in 15 minutes (or less). Truly fresh corn should not take a lot of cooking.

I microwave mine for 2 minutes per ear. Cover with butter then salt. Yummmmy

I use sugar, Glenda. Boil 4 minutes for corn I'm going to freeze, and 10 minutes for corn I'm going to eat.

My mom always used salt, and then complained that the corn wasn't very sweet. I was an adult before I ever heard about putting sugar in the water and the first time I tried it ... MAGIC happened! LOL! I've been using sugar ever since.

If I boil it I use sugar in the water and about 5 or more min. If its just a small piece I put it in the mircowave for about 4-5 min with a paper towel over it. Or.... just throw the hole ear in the oven don't shuck it, and bake it 30 min at 350º

I boil it for about 2 minutes.. just enough to heat through.. and I do add a bit of sugar to the water..

Always sugar over the corn in water. I cook for 5 to 10 minutes.

We also do not add sugar... our local corn doesn't need it!

I don't boil corn or any vegetable so I wouldn't know. I steam or cook it in its husks on the grill.

No more than 3 minutes and always sugar in the water. If it is just for me I microwave an ear or two a couple of minutes.

Steam it. All you need to do it get it hot - doesn't take long. Takes way more time to bring a big honking pot of water to the boil than to cook it using a litte water and a steamer insert.

I'm with monica and cynic ;o) My friend Del owns the closest working farm to us, and he has the best corn on the face of the earth. I've known Del since I was a small child around 8-9 and my parents used to get corn from his dad.
Steamed only with butter. It's the only time DH puts butter on anything, although we could eat it plain or raw, it's that good.

5 minutes; anything more than that is mush and inedible, in my opinion. If the corn is fresh and not overgrown, that's all it should need. I have occasionally left it in for 6 if it's not very fresh. If it's any less fresh than that I don't buy it. I will try it steamed; that sounds good.

I've never thought of putting sugar in the water; can't imagine that. The butter and sugar corn we get is sweet enough. Actually, I don't even butter it; I eat it plain from the pot.

I NEVER boil corn. I put a pat of butter, salt, pepper and a sprig of fresh rosemary on each ear. Wrap in wax paper. Microwave for about 2 minutes per ear. Turn corn over and cook for another 2 minutes per ear. Perfect corn every time.

I've never put sugar in the water, although I do remember something about doing this for starchy(old) corn or frozen ears.

Never boil, I pull most husk off,remove silk, rewrap,put in piece foil wrap one end shut,put a little water in wrap that end shut bake in hot oven 400 for about 25 minutes,My mother use to boil flavor right out of corn
,how about toppings butter,bay seasoning our favorite.

I boil it for about 5 minutes if I do it that way. I really like using the microwave, it works great. My favorite way is to cook them in their husks on the grill, though.

We boil for about 5 minutes. Just long enough to warm it all the way through really. We like ours really crunchy! A tiny bit of sugar is added if I have to buy frozen ears. During the season we don't add a thing.

You're making the Lowcountry Shrimp boil, right? Put the corn in a couple of minutes before the shrimp, which only take a couple of minutes. I think sweet corn boiled too long feels rubbery and icky.

I lived in the Lowcountry for over 20 years. :-) Don't miss those sand gnats, I tell ya! We used to boil everything in a beer liquid. First the sausage, then the potatoes, then the corn, and then the shrimp. The Old Bay goes in right away and we weren't stingy with it.

My Dad always taught me to bring the corn to a boil from cold water, then simmer for 7 minutes only. It always seemed the perfect corn to me.

Oh, it's too bad that you removed the husks. The husks shouldn't be removed until immediately before cooking. Whether you wrapped it or not, the quality, freshness, and taste will be diminished with the husks alreay off.

I am old enough that I remember when corn tasted like corn and not the sweet stuff that we get today........I love good old field corn with salt and pepper. I can't imagine putting sugar in the water to cook corn, it seems way to sweet already for me.

I love it grilled but I usually nuke it for 3 minutes in the husk in the microwave.......

Never heard of putting sugar in the water, but I was told by a relative to put a dash of sweet milk in the pot with the corn.

I also read a long time ago that the only way to cook corn was to put the pot of water on to boil, run out to the corn patch, pull off the corn, husk it on the way to the house, and drop it in the boiling water, for a few minutes, depending on the size of the ears. The idea was to get the corn to the pot immediately. 'Course that was 'way back when so many folks grew their own corn.

Now, I would microwave it.

I do what my Mom taught me. Boil it until the steam coming off smells like corn. It isn't long, but I have no idea how long it takes! Mom taught me a lot of cooking where no timer and no measuring cups nor spoons are used. I have one of her cookbooks and instead of the temp for the oven, it says, "Put in a hot oven".

I grew up in Ohio and when corn was ripe, we'd eat it almost every day. We'd get it at a roadside farm & the little old farmer would pick us a dozen ears while we waited. As soon as we got home, the pot of water would get turned on & we'd husk. When the water came to a full boil, added a couple of TBS. sugar, dropped in the corn & when it came back to a boil, cooked for 3 minutes. YUMMMY!

No boiling at all here. I wrap them individually in plastic wrap leaving the ends loose and microwave on high for six minutes for four ears.
