Wet blanket here. That is very sad and I hope the authorities were called - police and/or EMTs. That young man was in a world of trouble and has more to come.

When this first came out, someone on another forum suggested that the guy was on something other than alcohol. Meth for instance.

I agree, the shop owner and clerks should have called police and not have let him leave the store; but I do think I saw the one man on a cell phone possibly making a call as the drunken guy apparently stumbled down the street.

I think it's terrible. I lost a relative when she had an alcohol related accident in May, so I just don't think there's anything funny about any type of intoxication- especially when someone is extremely intoxicated.

There is nothing funny about a drunk......especially if a person has had to deal with them directly.
Dealing with alcoholism growing up and early on in my marriage in addition to working in hospitals made me realize drunks are no laughing matter.

Agree that it is sad to see someone in that situation. He appeared clean and dressed nicely.

I think the manager or whoever that was should have called someone for help immediately. He could have injured himself badly by falling around and possibly breaking glass etc.

Pitiful to allow yourself to get like that. I hope he has seen the tape; maybe it will help him to see what it is like and change his ways.

i think it was staged. For example, when the guy was on his butt unable to get up forever, a "normal" drunk/druggie would get on his hand and knees and try to get up. Don't believe everything you see on youtube (or in any media, for that matter.)

That video has been around for a while. It's staged. Simple satire. How can someone be offended by something that's not real. A real drunk couldn't balance on his tush like that kid did.

WC- maybe it is staged, but the portrayal of someone as drunk as that hits a nerve for some of us who have had experiences with alcoholics. I'm not saying this to argue, just to explain. It's an awful thing to see someone die because of this disease, and besides losing my SIL, I've seen it at work too often as well. So even a reenactment raises painful feelings in a lot of people. Alcoholism is a devastating disease and leaves a lot of collateral damage.

I agree with several others, or at least seriously consider the possibility that it was staged. If it was real, then I didn't think it was funny either. I got bored about a third the way in and backed out and never finished watching it. If it was real, someone needed to do something.

Susan I understand. But we all have things that push our buttons. To not want to watch it is understandable. It may well make you uncomfortable triggering bad memories. But that doesn't make it inherently offensive.

And I have had direct experience with alcoholics. Lost a BIL to alcohol. Difference is I don't care. He did it to himself. Better him than some innocent. I have zero tolerance for drunks or druggies. Unless they do it at home, live alone and don't expose themselves to the rest of us. Then they can drink or drug themselves into a stupor for all I care. just stay the heck away from people they can hurt. But I can't be offended by a parody.

If everything I came across everyday of my life that reminds me of something I would rather forget I wouldn't be able to turn on the tv or even step outside.

At first glance maybe but it becomes more and more obvious it's a prank. A joke. An act.

Wildchild, it's not just herself that my SIL hurt. There were others who loved her who are now left in pain, and with a lot of emotional baggage as a result of what they went through, as well as simply missing her as a wife and mother. And at my job I see the financial and emotional toll it takes on the entire family unit when someone is dealing with a substance abuse issue. Whether it's real or staged, I just don't think alcoholism or substance abuse is funny; but I do appreciate the conversation about it, and the opportunity to express different views.

You are perfectly entitled to your feelings. You nor anyone else is entitled to make us responsible for them.

But we all carry emotional baggage of one kind or another. But we alone are responsible with coping with it. It is our responsibility however unfair it seems at times. The world cannot adjust to suit everyone's individual needs. We can't filter the whole world to suit everyone.

For some people humor even black humor one way to lighten the load.

Like someone else posted, the title of the post was clear. No one forces anyone else to look at every single thread here.

I just went through this "you have to be sensitive to me carp in real life with some people". I'm fed up. I deal with my stuff so others can deal with theirs. Sympathy peeps will get from me but neither I nor anyone else is responsible for keeping an individual or group in their personal comfort zone. That part falls on them. Nobody else can be responsible for your feeling or happiness. That falls on you. Figuratively speaking. not directing this at anyone in particular. Offended? Your problem. Disturbed? Your problem. Seems to me that some people did not find in humor in the video. I am one of them. Satire or no..... it was NOT funny to me, it just looked stupid.I think one had to "figure it out" that it was staged. But I guess it COULD have been real & undoubtedly actually happens more often than we could guess. Either way, I don't see the humor.

When Foster Brooks & Dean Martin were on tv & doing their ACTS, we KNEW it was acting, but knowing that they also drank heavily, we were never certain if they weren't at least a little tipsy. This video was not a comic show.

WC, I know how you meant it and I took it that way. I just meant to explain that it's a huge societal problem as well as a personal one, but I was probably too wordy so the "sense" I meant to convey didn't come out right. Yes I would stand there and laugh. I would try to stay out of the way of the ones manning the video recorder so they could do their skit. I might even ask if they needed an "extra".

ALL comedy is based on real life, the human condition and it's foibles in one way or another.

I watched it for less then two minutes as it made me uncomfortable, and during that time I gave no thought whatsoever to color or resolution. Terribly remiss of me, I know. I'm actually glad it wasn't real. I'm glad the kid isn't making himself sick with alcohol, but instead is having fun making videos. And I'm not being sarcastic; I say that sincerely.

To everyone who is reading. I am fed up with political correctness, people who are looking for something to be offended by and people who try to control what others are allowed to post,share or say.

Over the last couple of days I am seeing more and more examples of people on several threads getting their panties in a twist because someone pointed out things they were unaware of. There are posters who want to learn and understand new viewpoints and there are those that don't. We who want to exchange ideas and opinions are not obligated to help the ones who don't stay in their chosen comfort zones.

Perhaps eventually someone will run an snitch and have this thread pulled. If they do I feel sorry that they feel so powerless they have to do stuff like ythat to bolster their own sense of self. It's very sad.

Dean Martin fan here.

Dean Martin was not a drinker in fact he was pretty much a tea totaler. Heavy smoker, yes.

Dick Van Dyke also played a drunk, and he was one in real life. He has admitted to being pretty well "lit" during most of the Dick Van Dyke shows as was Mary Tyler Moore. Both have been sober for years and years.

Haven't watched the video yet, but I intend to. The thing I dislike most about "funny" drunks, staged or not, is that it sends out the message to young people that being drunk is a barrel of laughs. I remember thinking as a kid watching the DVD shows that getting drunk was fun.

I didn't even bother looking at it until now since the thread seemed like it was more entertaining than the video could possibly be. Despite all those wishing it was real, there's no way IMO that it could possibly be real. People who have dealt with drunks should see it unless their view was clouded by other issues, and that can happen. Too often people just *want* it to be real. I must say though, the guy had very good balance for a few of the acts. Never have seen a drunk that coordinated.

I do have to disagree on the cameras though. I've designed, installed and set up surveillance systems that give this quality and better. The quality of the digital cameras out there over the last 10 years is surprisingly good. I don't question that it was recorded on the store cameras. FWIW, most stores would not use real time recording for security anyway, they'd use time-lapse so that is another reason (if there weren't enough already!) why it's doubtful this could possibly be real. They likely set it for realtime to make their movie and now it's back on time-lapse. And before anyone goes off the deep end, no, I don't expect everyone to know this and use that as an evaluation while they're watching it. It's simply sharing some information, which some appreciate.

What I also found amusing on the setup, the cameras aren't in the best location for surveillance either. We would spend a lot of time evaluating best angles and camera locations when we designed systems for businesses. But I digress.

If this were "real", and if I were the owner of the store, I'd fire everyone working there. The fat guy in the red shirt, stocking the shelf while a guy supposedly is bouncing off the shelves in the next aisle. The guy supposedly hanging from the cooler doors... IF it were real what was (so poorly) portrayed could easily be in the area of $500-$1000 in damage to the cooler door. Takes a lot of 12 pack sales to cover that so any employee allowing that to happen should be fired in real life.

To say nothing of (at least) twice the guy gets up and walks off camera normally, or "unimpaired". A case of spontaneous sobriety, I'm guessing! LOL A little slip-up in the editing too. I'm fairly certain the star didn't intend for that to be in there.

Here's yet another example of why people get bilked out of their life savings by "Nigerian Generals". Not so bad to be taken in, but when people get hysterical defending it, I almost wonder if they'd force an extra check onto Buba Harumba or whatever name is being used today! :)

So now's my time to climb upon my soapbox and once again warn anyone open-minded enough to listen:
Do *not* believe everything you see on TV, receive in an email, read on the internet or hear from someone!
