Visit to the dentist....

I would rather stick a fork in my eye than do that again! Their dad is on a wild land fire so it was just me today. Tanna wasn't having any of it. They took x-rays and cleaned her teeth...no cavities and the entire time they cleaned her teeth she screamed her little heart out! I even made sure to pack her favorite blankie and little bear so she would have something from home that was a comfort to her and that seemed to help a lot. I asked her if they were hurting her and she kept saying no. On our way home I asked her what hurt and she said nothing that she didn't like the noise, she thought from all the noise it was going to hurt.

Trace sat still and let them poke around. They check her teeth and gums and she got the all clear too.

We left there and went to the pharmacy where they got to pick out really cool toothbrushes and tooth paste.

Wow...what a day!

I know EXACTLY what Tanna went through - LOL - the noises in a dentists' office make my skin crawl, and that's when I'm not the patient! Before I had dentures, it took everything I had to drag myself into the dentist and THEN to crawl into the chair.

God love her little heart!!!! Let's be thankful her teeth are in great shape and she won't have to do it for another year!

My DH wants to be put to sleep when he gets his teeth cleaned! Not that they do that but if they would, he'd be thrilled.

That's good Pat, I'm glad the Dr. is helping you, not that the air quality is any good. Even down in the valley it's unhealthy, at least in my county. Brenda, good to hear, still ouch you had to have this done. I'm sorry you needed it in the first place. The dentist is a torture chamber for me with no discs in my jaws. Grandkids running me ragged. I've been busy with them. Hey Brenda I have Hollyhocks in bloom:) I keep forgetting to take pics. It's supposed to up to 110-112 here too in the next day or so... A lot of shade plants fried in June it was so hot. Non stop daily headaches are just normal bad, I haven't had a true migraine in several months with this med I take. OTOH I loose a lot of hair as a side effect which is upsetting. Next month it will be the anniversary of when I got them, 27 years ago. I've now done every test that can be done and run. Dr. threw down his pen in disgust and his hands in frustration. He gives up.

Lacking a home-based business, for most of us, the stuff that we buy using a credit card isn't deductible. So the interest on money used to buy it isn't deductible, either: we must pay off that debt with after-tax money. If I have a regular card, usually interest rate is 15 - 18%. If I'm in 20% income tax rate, I must earn $20.00 before-tax, then pay $4.00 tax, in order to have the $16.00 to pay the interest on a $100. loan on a regular card. On a store-issued card, usually charging 25 - 28% annual rate, I must earn $35.00 before-tax, then pay $7.00 tax, leaving me with $28.00 in hand to pay the interest only on the debt owing to the store that issued the card. If I put that $100. into the bank, earning 5%(?), the income tax people want $1.00 of that ... ... leaving me with just $4.00 after-tax residue to put into my pocket. I like that basket of apples a lot less than paying down the credit card debt. The person who may be able to dig up the will-power to leave the credit card alone while paying down the debt, buying goods with cash only, paying the credit card off quickly, and using the card only for **real** emergencies, can put some money into his/her pocket instead of giving it to the card company. If the person is laid off, having those cards much closer to paid off will mean that there's less still owing on which to pay high interest monthly ... and when adding to the balances, they'll still be lower, and requiring much less interest to pay monthly, so the payments will pay off more of the principal still owing ... every month. The person who lacks the discipline to control his/her use of that credit card will find that there's a high price, i.e. penalty, to pay for that instance of mismanagement. Money that isn't available for more important uses. Good wishes for ongoing (which can be more or less painless) learning about the intricacies of wise money management ... and the will power to implement that increased wisdom. Without driving yourself crazy. It's a poor day that you don't learn something, i.e. become wiser than you were the day before. And become more powerful than you were the day before ... and don't forget, that knowledge is power ... but only if you use it. Knowledge sitting there in your brain unused ... might as well be at the bottom of the Mississippi. ole joyful

I have had and am now having major dental work. The dentist that I went to for years and really liked retired about 7 years ago. I was switched to another dentist who practiced in the same office. I have had some major work done by this dentist and almost every time I leave his office, I am black and blue and in severe pain. One time I ended up with over $800 in medical bills. The dentist gave me a hematoma which ended up getting infected, I had major swelling of my glands and a lot of pain. I went to a medical doctor and got penicillin and they referred me to a cardiologist who did an echocardiogram. I have a heart murmur and have to take antibiotics before having any work done on my teeth. Because of the severe infection, I was referred to a cardiologist to make sure no damage had been done. I am now having a bridge replaced and had a tooth pulled this week. I am having problems and the dentist looked at it again today and said I have a severe bruise on my gum and it is swollen but it should heal without further antibiotics. Last summer I had a crown done on a molar and ended up with two weeks of severe pain and had to exist on a pain reliever. My point in all of this is that I have always been afraid to go to a dental school and have students working on me since I have had so many problems with an experienced dentist working on me. If he can't do it without me ending up in severe pain and bruises, hematomas, and other problems, would a student do a better job?

Firemanswife, next time, take headphones and a cd player and let her wear those.

Gregorysmom, your dh can have sodiumpentathol (laughing gas) if he wants it, he just has to ask for it. Your insurance may not pay for it, but he can get it. I have a friend who does this every time she goes.

Oh, that sounds like NO fun at all! The first time Bella had a cavity, we found a children's dentist that had laughing gas. It went sooooo great! But then she never had a problem with cleanings... Hugs!

I'm surprised that the Dentist did all that the first time seeing the kids. When I took my kids for the first time the goal was to get them in the chair and open their mouth. The dentist then would show them how to brush their teeth, then he would have them open count the teeth and have a quick look see.

That's a lot for a child to go through especially being so new to the process

I'm with Tanna. It's the noise that freaks me out. I get gas for "just a cleaning". If I'm in that chair I want the gas.

I'm a dentist-hater. I use my iPod and earbuds PLUS they have to give me nitrous just to clean my teeth. :-)

Thank goodness there were no cavities or you would have to go back!!! See if your insurance will cover a pediatric dentist-it might be a little better for them.

I don't mind the noise so much. It is the smell that gets me every time. If ANYONE in the place is having a cavity filled I can smell that drill. Just makes me want to jump out of my skin! Poor T.... You get a what, 6 month break? Bless your heart!

Whew! That is a big job for one parent vs 3 kids. Glad there were no cavities. Maybe next time it will go better, considering they realize there was no pain involved.
P.S I hope your hubby gets to come home safely and soon.

Just a thought for the future-find a pediatrict dentist. I had one for my kids,he had toys in the waiting room, headphones and music at the chair, a small reward after we finished up (squirt gun,balloons,etc).

Hooray for the good checkups!

As I read your posts a picture comes to my mind of US Currency with wings. Is any state aid available to you until the girls are legally adopted? I'd check into it. (You can even tuck it away for when they are grown if you wish, but aren't the girls considered wards of the state right now?)
