KT lurker introduced herself to me at WalMart

Was sitting on bench at WM waiting for the rain to subside, and a lady sat down beside me.

"Aren't you Glenda?" she asked.

To my surprise she told me she sometimes "looks" at the posts at the KT and remembered me. I told her she must be a lurker :o)

Told me I have a son, grandson, enjoy water aerobics at the Y, that I eat out daily, which she mentioned couple places she had seen me, from seeing pictures I've posted at the KT And figured we live in the same area, which we do.

Very nice person!

I asked her to join us, and when and if she does, her name is Betty.

I had a KTer walk up to me in Texas a couple weeks ago and ask "Are you Jodi?" I'm going to post about it later with the whole story and a photo. It was a very special moment for me.

Although it's getting OT I too think this is bringing up some interesting discussion. Before going off, I'll comment on: Definitely better the devil you know. So many are poor workers, thieves or worse so if it's a small issue then probably better to do little or nothing but the whole point I tried to make before is if it's a big thing to you Jae_tn, then for your sake, something should be done. And BTW, glad to see you posting - I remember seeing you around the forums! Hope things are well with you. Now for the off stuff! I guess being normally pretty moderate leaning in most things, pragmatic on virtually all and try to be guided by common sense and other values of "Cynics", I know that it's good for the world to try to conserve resources but there's practical times when it makes more sense to do things for my benefit. I use a water filter on the kitchen sink but also I buy bottled water and won't hang my head doing it. Fiscally it's responsible for me since I buy it for anywhere from $1.50-$2.50 per case of 24. I also try not to exaggerate things. The water I buy is *not* simply "tap" water from someplace. It is filtered, sometimes I buy spring water. I do not buy much in the way of soft drinks, though I have been getting hooked on the iced tea from Aldi. The bottles are convenient to take with me and I don't buy drinks when I'm out, even if I go through a drive-through for eating. One saved can or bottle pop purchase pays for about 1-2 months of bottled water. Good tradeoff for me. Plus with physical limitations, it's not as easy as for most to just "get up and go to the sink". And BTW, I recycle all of the bottles so they're not going into the landfills as so many try to say too. Please don't blame the bottles when people won't recycle them! I sometimes use cloth, sometimes paper, for cleanup. I use CFLs for nearly all of my lighting and bought LED lights for Xmas decorating. I do not buy or use disposable diapers. Now these are *not* recyclable and they *do* all go into the landfills! What a waste of resources in so many ways! I could see using them on occasion, similar to using cloth and paper cleaning items but diapers are a big peeve of mine, especially when someone complains about resources. Many are quite hypocritical there IMO. I don't do 20 loads of laundry a week. I'm willing to wear something more than a few hours. Heck, if I'm just sitting around I'll wear the same shirt and pants for a couple days. I'm not a surgeon needing to change gowns after each operation. I don't need to shower 2-3 times a day most of the time. And I don't have to marinate myself in colognes and sprays to keep myself from offending peoples' olfactory systems. I'm quite proficient at offending people in other ways! :D Along with money, keyboards, phones, steering wheels, doorknobs, TV remote controls are all grubby. Period. Few people, admittedly myself included, clean them often enough though I've always had a thing about a dirty phone. That's where I approach "OC". People also seldom realize some of the filthiest parts of the body are eyes and ears. People wipe them all the time and (shudder), well you could probably be better off bacteria-wise to scratch your butt! I like to use tongs or scoops for things when multiple people will access it. I keep sanitizer by the computer if I am going to eat by it. I keep some sanitizer in the vehicle too but I don't use it all that often. I know what it did to Howie Mandel, but that was his own OC that got him into trouble. Misusing things isn't the responsibility of the product. And also I'll use certain resources but I also contribute in other ways too. I use reuseable bags at the stores often, but not always and never for drippy meat. I have planted literally hundreds of trees, and saved trees on properties which helps clean the air, save moisture, promote wildlife and other things. I don't use tons of fertilizer & weed sprays. I think an occasional dandelion is just fine. And I haven't run a sprinkler on my lawn in 20 years. Rain and snow wash my vehicles. So if I use a paper plate or two, and enjoy the convenience and savings of a bottle of water I'm able to sleep at night! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to get a sandwich and a salad (from a plastic bag) put it on a paper plate, grab 1/2 a paper towel and have my din-din! :D

Hello to all you quilt-o-holics! I am a newbie to the forum, having joined only a few days ago. My RL name is Marilyn but online in am agoldencomet - aka goldie or comet. I came up with this web name as something original - a golden comet is a breed of chicken with feathers the same colour as my red hair! LOL Now you know (from that spelling of colour) that I am Canadian - from Nova Scotia. I am 62-year-old retired school teacher snowbird, spending 5 1/2 months of the year in Ft Myers beach in Florida. I have been married to my best friend for only three years, after living together for twenty. Ours was one of the first weddings when same gender marriage was made legal in Nova Scotia. Regretfully, we have no children and thus no grandchildren to quilt for. So I have begun making charity quilts for preemies and also for abused moms and their children. Our only baby was Rudy, our sweet cat, who died last summer at age sixteen from cancer. We miss him desperately and will soon adopt one or more kittens. I have been quilting for only about three years and am keen to try any style and/or technique I see. My love is stained glass and I have completed ("almost") a queen size SG quilt. All others so far have been lap quilts, children's or UFO's. I am working at building my stash which travels with me north to south in the fall and vice versa in teh spring LOL. Hi. Joining this long thread a little late. My name is Lisa. I'm 35 and currently a SAHM to two boys, ages 6 1/2 and 4. I finished a post-doc in Clinical Psychology 2 1/2 years ago, before moving from Chicago to the Philly area. I plan to go back to work part-time some day but haven't taken steps in that direction yet. I've been married for 10 years to my dh Scott who is a Neurologist specializing in Epilepsy. This is our 2nd house. We've lived here for 2 1/2 years. It's a new construction house, though we didn't design it (when we purchased it, it was 95% finished). It's (to our mind) not particularly attractive on the outside, but it is very spacious inside and didn't need renovation. That was key for us, as we moved here with very small kids and had just worked hard renovating parts our old house in the suburbs of Chicago. New construction is an anomoly in our neighborhood. The builder had torn down one house, split the lot, and built two houses on it, facing the other direction. So what we have is a big house on a small lot and a funny shaped (long and narrow) back yard. No one has big yards in our neighborhood, and the neighborhood has an "urban light" feel to it, with side walks and homes built close together. We actually like this--we like knowing our neighbors and being able to walk, ride bikes, etc. on the sidewalks. We walk our oldest to 1st grade, which is wonderful as well. I like decorating but feel I am a complete novice at it. I am one of those people who know what I like when I see it but can't always imagine it in my head. Strange for me, since I consider myself a fairly creative person. I guess this is a art unto itself. We have a lot of white walls that need painting rooms that need tweaking. I just keep telling myself that it's a process and there's no hurry. Here are my boys celebrating Hanukkah this year: Here's a family pic. Had to go back to last April to find one of the 4 of us! Couple years ago, my son was going into an office building, to make a delivery, and a lady said "Hii Parke, I know you".

It was LKGrace, telling him about his son, Parke Jr, his recent marriage, describing his new bride, then tells my son, who she is and that we know eachother from the KT.

Talk about coincidences. Floored my son!

What a surprise and a thrill that had to be for a lurker to come speak with you, recognizing you from the pictures you post here.

That is very nice and all, but what if she HADN'T been a nice person?

This is a good example of how people can pick out all the stuff you post, and find out where you live, where you frequent.

I've survived the KT forever, and look at the positive instead of the negative.

Wow, I don't know how I would react to that if it happened to me. Honest question - would the responses on here be different if someone randomly greeted a child or grandchild by name and knew details about them and you had no idea who they were? Just curious if there's some kind of line between a fun experience and an unsettling one when it comes to forums with the kind of (hidden) traffic this one has. I don't have kids myself so I don't know how much of a concern that is to the parents and grandparents on here.

I'm glad that Glenda and Jodi had good experiences! I think most people are just more adventurous and open than I am, and probably a lot less paranoid!

What fun!!!! It must have been exciting Glenda and I give kudos to the lady who stopped to talk. She's living life well to go out on a limb and speak to you. I love it.

That's a little harsh, isn't it? It's not as though we can claim possession of a message thread on a public forum. To post is to invite responses (of all kinds).

I'm sure it was a fun experience--it sounds exciting, and I'm glad you shared it. But I also thought it could be a lesson to those who persist in thinking the KT is a private place.

Who thinks the KT is private?? Its the internet. People meet from the KT all the time-myself included. If someone wants to abduct or rob someone, they certainly don't need to comb thru KT posts for years to glean info. It was a fun conversation inside Walmart!

Some threads tend to go downhill, alisande, and once they start it always ends most in the negative. Just wanted this one to stay a good thoughts one, that's all.

I shared my experience cause it was a fun one and wanted people to enjoy :o) and keep it that way.

I told DH about this, and he also thought it was really cool. The first time I had a KTer visit my home (in 2001), DH was concerned that a "stranger" was coming here. She was terrific, and since then, he gets excited when we are meeting KTers. I've met quite a few, and they have all been wonderful people.

Our Nita (The KT Queen) has met well over 100 KTers--and she has never had a bad word to say about any of them. Not an axe murderer in the lot!

I told Betty, yesterday, about the wonderful KT friends, and how we've actually had get togethers. She was amazed how friendships have been made and continue to develop.

I couldn't tell you anything about anyone here and pictures? What pictures? HAHAHA! Seems that I recall one woman cycles all over the place but that's about the most I remember. OH yeah there was this one woman whose Great Great Great Great Aunt was mudered by her husband or something...HA! I'm certainly not paying that close attention to anyone's life stories.

Linda, IF we can get her to join the KT instead of being a LURKER.

I didn't think, nor did she about getting emails addresses. Such a nice person.
