Starbucks!

Received a belated birthday gift today, and it was a Starbucks gift card.

I've never been to one, but do have two nearby.

You have a favorite?

Right now, Iced Vanilla Latte. Closer to the holidays, a hot EggNog Latte. Can a seasonal treat be addictive, if so, I'm hooked on the eggnog, I look forward to its arrival every year and I'm sad when they quit making them again after Christmas.

Caramel Flan Latte is very good (I love flan), but a little too much for me, it will just about replace a meal entirely.

And those tempting desserts? Good too ;) I sound like I'm in Starbucks a lot and I'm not. I buy something for myself when running errands out of town only, but DH is in the local store for a plain Americano often, he meets his friends there weekend mornings with few exceptions before they start their days. And will come home with a latte for me.

I think their coffee is strong, so if you like strong coffee, it will be fine. I usually add lots of milk. I love their peppermint mocha holiday coffee.

    bathroom tile at Starbucks

    Q

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately I think the Pratt and Larson textured tiles have more uniform lines than the tiles I saw. What I loved about that tile was that the lines were kind of in splotches with some tiles having a lot more than others. Thank you!!!

Compost just w/Starbucks coffee grounds & shredded paper?

    Q

My thought on this is that if it's lots of coffee and there are leaves, just mix them up and use as mulch or leave on the ground. Or compost for however long is practical at first - a big pile of coffee grounds and leaves is sufficient. But within reason (not super thick layers), coffee grounds directly on the soil (lightly raked or hoed to mix a bit with soil) becomes indistinguishable pretty quickly. YMMV depending on climate, I know some say coffee that dries too much can become crusty and hydrophobic, I don't have that problem. I've put coffee on lawn and lightly raked, within days not noticeable. TL/DR version, it may not be necessary to compost coffee at all - just apply. Note, NOT saying to use in containers.

I like the Chai Tea with "no water". I think it tastes like Christmas :-)

    What about their iced coffee?

    I'm checking out their menu!

I, too, love the mocha frappuccinos, but I get the "skinny" version to save about 500 calories (not kidding!!!).

For hot, brewed coffee, I much prefer Tim Horton's. :)

We used to, but the thrill wore off. My DH and I used to share the Caramel Macchiato. The help comes and goes and so did the quality. Also very, very expensive.
I agree that the regular coffee is strong.
We prefer Dunkin, but the young set still like Starbucks.

I have the gift card, which I appreciate the thoughtfulness of the giver. Want to use it.

    More Starbucks recommendations, please!

I love the pumpkin spice lattes but I don't think they will be out for another month or so. In the summer I like the iced green tea, and they have a peach green tea lemonade that is very good. I like their iced coffee too.

I don't usually drink their regular, hot coffee.

I like one of the cakes, can't remember the exact name, seems like low-fat cinnamon poundcake.

& it may be too early, but they have a pumpkin latte or pumkin something, maybe cappacino, around the holidays.

Their Christmas blend coffee is wonderful!

Oh they also have a snack that I like. It's greek yogurt with raspberry and lemon curd and granola. Good stuff!

I go to Starbucks everyday. I have a "modified" coffee frap (no milk, no whipped cream and 1/2 the amount of sugar).

They also have a secret menu online.

    Enjoy!!

secret menu??? I will see if I can find it.

The modified coffee frap sounds like something I might like.

Definitely the pumpkin spice for the holidays.

I'm with Sheila - too strong for my taste.

I'll just have to see when I can find.

I'm a one a day cup of coffee person, but I will drink iced coffee.

    Not a tea drinker.

Two are so close, I'll just have to go and look :o)

    Thankx

I don't drink coffee, but had a gift card....got the mocha frappuccino and it was like dessert! Wonderful! I also like the muffins. I ate @ a Starbucks in the airport in Taipei, they charge a lot less there too. :0)

Sorry, my favorite thing is to avoid them, even if it were free.

Your not helping much with that kind of answer, Old Fixer :o)

One-shot decaf latte with unflavored soy milk foam. Love it!

Cranberry Bliss Bar...only available around the holidays...I love those things!!! I don't care much for coffee, so I can't make a drink recommendation for you.

I'm another chai latte drinker - it's a big treat when I get one which is not very often. I don't drink coffee

Oh definitely the mocha Frappuccino is like a desert almost as good as ice cream! Certainly worth a try. I don't drink hot drinks. I haven't had any of their teas. I do like some of the iced coffees.

They now have a milder brew coffee called "Blonde roast" for those who do not like strong coffee. Its really pretty good.

Their hot apple cider is good when it turns cold. You can get a frozen blended strawberry lemonade when its hot that is very good.

The desserts are much better now that they are being supplied by a bakery that they bought from San Francisco. We like the berry loafs, lemon pound cake is good too.

The fraps are good but high in calories since I like them with whip cream, which they make themselves.

The stores in the airports and in Targets are called affiliates and they don't use the same syrups or make their own whip. At least that is what my son told us - he has worked for them a long time.

    Thanks all for the info.

I was not aware of all the goodies they serve.

Just thought it was only a fancy coffee place.

Watching my caloric intake, so will use my gift card sparlingly. WIll probably wait until the seasonal goodies are available.

I like a simple hot vanilla latte. I get one as a treat about once a month. My kids love the frappuchinos and macchiatos. They usually stick to basics like vanilla bean or chocolate chip. They only get this about 3x a year. Lots of caffeine and sugar in the drinks.

I only go once a year to have the pumpkin spice latte.

sugar free hazelnut ..... whatever. I love hazelnut.

Hot, iced, or a frappacino..all good. No whip

Carmel frappacino all the time. This is my favorite when we go on bus trips.

The calorie count on those fancy coffee drinks is over the top. I do love dark coffee, so that is what I get. I drink it black. They have sandwiches and pastries in their "deli" case. You will have no trouble using up your gift card!

I buy the big bags of Starbucks French Roast whole beans at BJs. I do like the Christmas Blend, too.

    Chai Frappe with whipped cream.

Carol, you'll be happy to know, PSL is back "earlier" than other years. See below story.

To be honest, Starbucks was the one thing that made me feel "normal" during all the crises (divorce, flooded home, bankruptcy, etc.) of the past five or six years. I've been through the financial wringer and was required to give up everything, well almost every, material possesion or hopes of getting anything new. The one thing that never came out of my budget? Starbucks. Daily. It's my breakfast. Now that I can have it, without having to give something else up, I am cutting back. Helped me through feeling completely destitute. Gotta have one indulgence!

Mocha with whipped cream, please. Decaf, unfortunately. When I don't have Starbucks, it's straight, dark and black, at home, or out and about at other people's homes, eating out, etc.

I will go to a Starbucks when there is no other choice. My drink of choice is a Latte, usually iced in the warm months and heated in the winter. Although I find that usually Starbucks, (and most other places) heat the milk waaaaay to much, giving it a burnt, flat, sour taste, and making the resulting too hot for me to drink. I think their default target temperature for steamed milk is 160 deg F, and they they will also heat milk in the little pitcher for one persons drink, then add some fresh milk to the heated milk in the pitcher and heat it some more for the next persons drink. Ugh.

I've also been irked to notice that a two shot espresso is usually somewhere around $2, and a medium latte, is more like $4, which means for the few ounces of (over) steamed milk they are charging $2, which works out to about 28 cents for the milk and $1.72 to heat it and pour it. Or in the case of an iced latte, 28 cents for the milk and $1.72 to pour it in a glass.

Lately when I do go to a coffeeshop, I have been simply ordering a double shot espresso and pouring the milk myself, and saving $2.

Aw, Bob. You made me miss my favorite coffeehouse ever. The local one I frequented for many many years in the city where I attended university and later, raised my son for several years. The Red Rose. Best coffee ever. Don't make 'em like they used to.

I don't drink coffee but they have very good iced tea and pound cake.

Oh wait - for the food there? My absolute favorite is the iced lemon pound cake!!!!

green tea frappachino with whipped cream on top! once a year on my bday!

Glenda, unless you like very strong coffee... you might ask for the "blonde blend" I do enjoy my coffee but the regular is just way to strong...My favorite in the fall is a pumpkin latte. enjoy...

While Starbucks has done much to popularize and open eyes nationwide to espresso coffee, they've done so with (in my opinion) very mediocre coffee. And not very capable baristas.

If you go there for sweet drinks with little or no coffee, or if your idea of coffee is Columbian or Dunkin Donuts brand, it won't matter to you. If you're a coffee lover, you may find a better product from local coffee roasters. Small scale coffee roasters, like craft beer brewers, seem to have sprung up all over and most often use a superior quality coffee to the national chains.

snidely, I am looking for suggestions to use my Starbucks gift card.

    My comment was a follow-on to Bob's.

Like him, I'll go to Starbucks only if there's no alternative. Another place I avoid but that sometimes has surprisingly ok coffee is McDonalds.

If looking for Starbucks menu suggestions, their pastries aren't bad. Some also sell sandwiches and cold drinks.

You asked for opinions, I gave one.

Another possibility for using the gift card would be to get a travel mug or french press or some such which some of the stores carry.

I am not a coffee drinker, but lots of friends are, so I meet them at Starbucks sometimes. I like their egg white, spinach, feta wrap=Tasty! The pastries are good too.

teresa the egg white spinach feta wrap sounds tasty!

I'll go check Starbucks out and have in mind all the good recommendations from all.

    Thanks!

I usually only go to Starbuck's when I am on vacation. A couple of weeks ago, when I spent 8 hours at the DFW airport, I had 2 Starbuck's frappachinos during that time.

I always fly American. In Nashville, the Starbucks inevitably, is right next to the gate from which I leave. So I leave enough time to stop in on my way out of town. More expensive at the airport than anywhere else in town though?
