Has anyone seen the movie Boyhood?

A friend wants to see this movie with me tomorrow. I haven't read any reviews yet, but the ratings given to it by critics are nothing short of astonishing. Astonishingly good! My only reservation is the length: 2 hours and 42 minutes. I'm not sure I want to sit that long for any movie.

If it's really good, the 2 hours and 42 minutes will go by unnoticed. Can't wait to hear your review.

As I remember, he used his house to post the bond. When he disappeared, missing his court date, the bail bond company was about to take the house and evict the family unless his daughter could produce proof that he was dead. Which she did. (The proof was pretty grusome.) Do you remember the women taking her to the swamp at night to get the "proof"?

Hi Sue, I had to chime in and say after years of fuzzy tv we went Dish Network last year. Pay the extra and get the DVR if it does not have it included (mine was for 2 years). The newer systems are great - I can do a search for a show or movie and it will search and tell me when it is on. I can record just new shows of a certain show and no more tapes or reruns. It is against my tightwad policies too but so great to have great tv so hubby can watch his sports, I can watch anything else. I did not get the HBO, pay movie packages and updates. Writing the check (they charge another $5 for direct pay) makes my skin crawl but I would not be without it. Did the search and Big Spender is on A & E at 5:30 PM on July 30. Thanks Nethound! Kathy

My hubby has already mentioned wanting to see this movie, and I had to say 'no thanks'. I'd be crying like a baby at any hint of animals suffering. I've also never seen Old Yeller or Marley and Me. It's hard enough hearing heartbreaking real-life stories in the news, without actually paying to see it in a movie. I don't know why it is, but movies about people who suffer do not affect me as deeply. It's strange when I think about it...

Agree, sit in the back, be prepared to leave during intermission, but also consider reading about it or watching a documentary about the show, the background, etc. I find that the more I know about things going on when a show was first made, or the performers, or the costuming, or odd things that have occurred with other productions of a show, the more interested I am in the performance. Engages more of my brain, ya know? Then during intermission, have a plan to talk about all that and anticipate what's coming in the next act. Now, I'm not particularly energetic but I am so fidgety when in an audience. Having a box of Altoid Smalls helps.

Our plans just got called off. Maybe we'll reschedule. I don't do well sitting for long periods. Joint pain....muscle stiffness...short attention span. I don't know how many times I looked at my watch during Les Miz. :-)

But it's true that some movies are more compelling/entertaining to watch than others.

I want to see it, but DH and I will probably wait for the DVD. It sounds long enough for three of our 'teatime matinees'.

I'd like to hear what others think...if you can keep from spoiling the plot.

A columnist in today's Chicago Tribune loved it, and I loved his comment that parents aren't raising "a boy", but "a soul".

Absolutely wonderful...saw it at the State Theatre in Traverse City...a wonderful movie going experience in and of itself. This is a spectacular movie...not at all plot driven, but rather the story about how a family grows together and individually over 12 years' time. It is fun to watch the physical and emotional changes...some funny, some heartbreaking. It's the best movie we've seen in years.

It sounds interesting, but there's no way I can sit still that long. I guess I'll wait for it to be available in a home version.

Actually...it flew by.Neither my husband and I are great sitters, but we were mesmerized and didn't get up once! I do agree that video at home is good since you can turn it off, watch more later, fix a snack, fix dinner, etc.
If any of you ever have a chance to watch a movie at the State in Traverse City, do so. It's run by volunteers, seats are super comfy and banked so that shorties like me can see, and their snacks are super cheap....2 medium drinks and a medium popcorn (it was huge) for $7.50 total.

Just saw The Hundred-foot Journey which is two hours and two minutes long. The film was so beautiful I didn't even notice how long it was ... until I tried to stand up and I'm hear to tell you, my knees noticed. ugh. Took me a while to be able to walk out of the theater ... and I don't even suffer from knee problems. I was so entranced with the story and the beauty of the film I don't think I moved a single muscle the entire two hours.

I look forward to seeing Boyhood when it comes out on Netflix.

We saw the 100Foot Journey, too. Didn't know it was that long. Maybe I am better at sitting than I thought. Both this and Boyhood were very intriguing and the time just flew. At home, I have trouble watching a half hour sitcom!
