Cancelled TV shows last year

Last year we really got into some great new TV shows, then they were all on hiatus because of the writers strike. Several weren't renewed for this season. IMO they didn't give the shows a chance because of the strike.

We were thoroughly disappointed to find that Dirty, Sexy Money is back this fall (just a fluffy show with spoiled rich-kids....too many now on tv), yet Cane, which was our very favourite wasn't renewed. It was full of sit on the edge of your seat drama, and for us the hour just flew by. Tom also loved The Journeyman, but it had to be followed closely. It isn't on this year either.

Were we the only ones who liked Cane and the Journeyman?

I really liked Journeyman. You are right about having to follow it, but it was a good one, they never gave it a chance!

I didn't see Cane.

I did like Life, and as far as I know - it will be back.

We loved Journeyman and it is very disappointing that it was not renewed. Maybe cable will pick it up.

Just one more example from the Axe Men show this week of stupid, dangerous behavior. The new man's first job was to limb a tree with a chainsaw. Maybe one can assume that he had some experience with a chainsaw before, and it looked like it, but he was sent to limb the tree with the idea that he was going to "prove himself" doing this job, especially with how fast he could do it. Well, those of us who were watching closely and have some experience, know exactly what happened. Because he was hurrying so much and/or was inexperienced, he cut/released a "spring pole," a sapling bent down under the fallen tree, in the wrong way. It sprung up and hit him, causing him to loose control of his saw and nearly severely injure himself. Anyone who has done any logging knows of the danger of spring poles. Sometimes they are hidden in the brush/tree top foliage. No "greenhorn" should be given the job of limbing a tree before he is thoroughly instructed in the dangers of spring poles and taught how they should be cut to release them and/or be carefully avoided. These things are capable of breaking a man's leg, splitting a man's head open, or castrating him. But they need not be dangerous if one takes reasonable care. OK, that is example #2 from just this one show. Paula: Those who know my contributions in this forum know that there is no one who loves trees more than I. But I am also a sometimes logger who owns some timberland that is harvested in the most environmentally friendly way possible. When I do my logging, I do everything I can to protect the trees I am not harvesting, and do everything I can to preserve/enhance the diversity of life in the forest. When possible I log in the winter when there is a good covering of snow on the ground. Anyone coming into my timberland in the summer would find no evidence that anyone did any logging, unless they found a stump, and then a treetop some distance away. Not even a scuff on the ground. I also worked, for a few weeks, with a man who had horses for logging. And more than that, he has a specially designed arch, rather than a singletree, that he used to keep the logs from tearing up the ground and/or scraping other trees as they were skidded out. But, even Weyerhauser, which was clear cutting on the sites where I worked, carefully re-forested, and I saw the results of that re-forestation in all stages of re-growth, and honestly, these re-growing forests are beautiful. But, for special timber stands, I am an ardent preservationist. I have been a member of the Save-the Redwoods League for something like 35 years, and did some serious lobbying under the direction of the Sierra Club for the bill to expand the Redwood National Park during the Reagan (the "if you have seen one redwood, you have seen them all" guy) Administration. So, please believe that not all cutting of timber for their wonderful wood, is evil. The main product of my timberland is very high quality hardwood for furniture. I love fine furniture made from the very best quality wild black cherry trees, among other kinds of woods. Wood is a beautiful material, and it a renewable resource, and any really fine wood made into fine furniture is carbon that will be sequestered for many generations, reducing global warming. And then the trees re-grow, providing more opportunities for more carbon removal/sequestration." OK, I am off my soapbox for at least a day or two! --Spruce

Mike, VCR's very fragrant and smells just like a rose. Even with just this single bloom I can still detect faint whiff of it from a distance. I know a vendor in Oahu who sells VCR cutting for $16. If you want it, let me know and I'll be happy to pick one up for you when I'm there. Wow!! that Scentational is still there? I kinda wanted to get it last month but it wasn't on sale. $40 seems reasonable enough! :) Did you see that giant plumeria plant I found in the Asian market around here? Could it be a promising sign plumerias will soon be available in our state? LOL Kenny

I only like the DTS episodes with Clive and Lisa LaPorta. I find the east coast episodes to be unwatchable due to the supposedly creative camera work. Too much zooming and bouncing around, and they don't seem to show much of the house. There was one on last night and all I saw was the exterior, the 2 story entry and the master bedroom.

TV is one vice we are willing to pay for here. We really don't watch any sports, but enjoy movies and channels like History and Biography and the Documentary channel. Getting those channels via the internet are not an option, since we have a 10 GB/month bandwidth cap. That doesn't go very far - goes NOWHERE when trying to stream video. sigh... but I get to pay a LOT for that service, LOL/ We do watch quite a bit of programming over the off-air antenna, but there again are issues with that. Living as far away from the stations as we do limits the reception and quality of the signal. Most of the time it is good, but during periods of really bad weather, and for some reason really good weather the signal gets dropped. TV watching is also kind of seasonal for us. It is really nice to have something good to watch during the winter months when we are not as busy. I tape movies and shows on the DVR and save them to watch later. Not ashamed to admit it - this house isn't going to to cut the cable! :) Sounds like you have your system set up nicely though. Isn't it amazing how things have changed over not that many years!!

I really enjoyed Cane, too, and wish it would come back.

Also Dexter, which i guess came from either HBO or Showtime. Right now I'm enjoying the SWAT team show on CBS, can't remember the name at the moment, but it's new for the summer. I figure they won't bring it back either because it's so good.

I liked Journeyman, but DH and I loved Cane. It was one the best shows in a long time (of course, I was a Dallas-Dynasty-Colbys-Knots Landing fanatic). We can't believe they aren't bringing it back. Another favorite that isn't coming back is The Unit. Who makes these decisions?????

Wanda, The Unit will be back, moved to Sunday nights after Cold Case. I'm still mad that Men in Trees won't be back.

I'm disappointed that "Back To You" was cancelled, yet "Til Death" is still on. I loved the first, can't stand the second. Anything with Kelsey Grammer is sure to be a hit but they're claiming it was too expensive because of their stars.... well, they hired 'em in the first place! Geez, that's so dumb.

I didn't see a single show that was mentioned here. LOL Can you tell I don't watch much tv???

In fact, I don't even remember hearing anything about them.

One of the fluffy summer fill-in shows that aired during the writers strike was Miss Guided (I think that's how they spelled it -- could have been Mis-Guided) was really a cute, fun show. I read that it's been canceled.

Also canceled - Las Vegas. That really bums us out - it was a good show before, but it was GREAT with Tom Selleck. And now it's gone...

I am also mad that "Men in Trees" was cancelled. I hardly ever watch that type of show but I really got hooked on that one.

I really liked Journeyman too. I do hope Life will be back, it was one of my favorites as well.

LOL I'm like MaryAnn. I've never even HEARD of any of those shows. We're in such a rut - we watch the few things that we like every week religiously and then piddle around on the computer the rest of the time...

I'm glad to hear that Dirty, Sexy Money will be back. I tried watching Cane but didn't like it. I'm bummed to hear that Las Vegas was canceled. I like it with Selleck but I really missed Jimmy Caan (sp). As long as I get Survivor and American Idol I'll be happy.

I was just thinking about this yesterday and getting excited for my nighttime tv to come back...Boston Legal, Grey's Anatomy, ER, Lost, I'm a tv addict!! I wish they'd run a few reruns during the month of August to get my brain back up to speed on the series!!

I like Dirty, Sexy Money, Dexter I can not get enough of this weirdO~~~Burn Notice I am so in love with him (pant pant) Army Wives, Boston Legal YEA!! Law and Order forever!
The Closer~~~I watch Grace Under Fire but what is up with the nude smut stuff:( And with an angel on the show sheesh!!

Anyone watch The Cleaner with Benjamin Bratt~~~I think the name is stupid but am hoping he will take his shirt off soon:)

Don't despair - Friday Night Lights will be back, but not until January. Prior to that, it will be on one of the cable channels (wish I could remember which one). That's one of our absolute most favorite shows!

Hubs and I have gotten so disgusted with the way the networks cancel shows so quickly that we aren't going to watch any of the new shows at all. The only new one that we watched last season was the Miss Guided show on ABC that didn't come on until the writer's strike, and it was really cute. But, it's been canceled... So, we'll watch our favorites that will be back, and as they slowly (hopefully not quickly!) get canceled or reach their end, it will be an extra 30-60 minutes for doing something else...

This is the last season for E.R. and we didn't watch it at all last season. Don't know if we'll start in on that one again just to catch the final season. ... Probably not!

I haven't watched any of those shows! In fact, the only show I'm watching now is Army Wives. Sometimes I'll watch HGTV but that's it. I'm much more addicted to my computer!

Lunchlady - I've been watching the Cleaner so it's sure to be cancelled! Any new show I like gets cancelled. I love Benjamin Bratt.

I only started watching that because I'm on maternity leave. I don't usually watch 10pm dramas - they keep me up too late. A&E replays it on Saturday afternoons though.

Usually I wait for shows to come back in syndication. I got tired of getting invested in shows only to have the networks pull them after a few episodes.
