A former boss named my car for me. It's a CRV; she dubbed it the "Cute, Red Vehicle." It is. I love it.

I've never named inanimate (sp?) objects like my cars, guns, etc.

Early in our marriage DH and I had a car we named Murphy. You know..."Murphy's Law". It certainly lived up to its name!

I drive a smallish station wagon that has a roof rack and rather wide side mirrors. When I first noticed the car's shadow, it reminded me of a cartoon character, so I promptly named it, "Shrek".

In the past, like kframe19, I had never named inanimate objects. That all changed when I got my Sienna minivan. Her name is "Betsy."

I drive an FJ Cruiser. If you're familiar with the line, you probably understand why mine is known in the neighborhood as "Cookie Monster".

I had had a Model-A Ford once that I called "Betsy" and when the radiator leaked, it became "Betsy Wetsy".

azzalea- that's a great name. But now I have visions of you driving around your neighborhood handing out home made cookies to the kids while "C is for Cookie" plays on your car CD. You know - something like the ice cream man!

The van is just "The Van". DH's pick up truck is "Big Red". Big Red lives in the back garage with "Little Donna" our 1979 AMC Pacer. Little Donna was named for her original owner who cried buckets when Big Red took her away to a new life with DH and I. We promised Donna that Big Red and "The Ghost", our white Goldwing motorcycle, would look after "Little Donna" in her new home.

My Dad bought a old 1946 Chevy in 1965 for $100.00. He painted it and did everything himself. It had a huge trunk you could fit 10 dead bodies in. He used it to go to and from the Golf Course and kept all his gear in the trunk. LOL!

Much to our chagrin he made us drive it to School. We called it the "Bomb".

Current car is Nugget because it is gold. Last car that DH drives now is Snot - a used older car, it came up with creative ways to breakdown. Best loved car was Violet, a beautful aubergine sp? eggplant color. I hated the color at first, but came to love it. Snot has a male personality, but Miss Violet was a Southern Belle, out of her element up here in the north.

And no, I had never named any object before Violet. Her name and personality just came out.

Never named a car except the first one DH and I had. A Black '54 Ford. She was named Black Beauty.

Now that my last car went to Honda Heaven after 21 years of service, I have a 2005 Honda Civic. Due to time, inflation, insurance and State taxes, etc, I call it "Expensive."

Of course my first car was Waddles and that is how I got my name. I then got the firecracker but now I am driving the mafia mobile, HHR that reminds of a mafia car.

I just bought myself a beautiful Ford Escape. She is a dark blue metallic with a beige interior. I love her and her name is Fiona (fee own â). vique

We've never named cars, but a couple years ago a dtr came home and said, in a sweet little voice, "Um, Mom, Dad, um, the car sort of looks like a prune now. Somebody backed into the driver's side doors while it was parked." We've called it "the prune" ever since.

The color of my old Subaru was "Misty Dawn" so that became her name. It's been sold back & forth to various friends & family and EVERYONE refers to the car by name.

My current car color is "icy blue" and all I could think of was Grace Kelly - and those icy blue eyes of hers. The car was purchased at the Kelly dealership so the name Grace Kelly really seemed appropriate.

My BMW is just "the Beemer" but a white Dodge Caravan, which has been in the family for many years is referred to as "My Igloo" and in fact the personalized plates say MIIGLOO (myigloo was already taken). I'm part Eskimo which is what prompted the name in the first place.

We've always named our cars for some strange reason. :-) My car's color is Pearl White, so naturally she's named Pearl. DD's car color is Taffeta White so we call her Taffy. DH's old Chevy Nova we just call Novy. Yeah, I know, weird, but at least there are others who name their cars which is always good to know. :-)

I never used to name cars. But after such great service I got so attached to my Mazda B2200 CabPlus that I started calling "Trucky" after "the truck", "the pickup" and the like got to be clumsy. But I'd give it a pat on the steering wheel when we'd get through something major and talked nice and all that. It was hard to part with Trucky. Got a green van and I liked it. Somehow I started calling her Vanna. Was going to replace it with a white van so I figured Vanna White would be appropriate. But that didn't happen. Got another green van now but still like Vanna. Very comfortable and I think she's trying to make up to me for letting me down. So far the new one is simply called the Kia.

When I was younger, my parents bought a Mazda MPV. It looked like a blowfish, so we called it "The Blowf". My sister calls her Subaru Tribeca and she calls it "Mr. Hanky," which drives me crazy.

I was forced to drive an ugly yellow Subaru growing up (and yes, I AM grateful for the vehicle--my parents didn't need to let me drive a car in high school) and I called it "Lemon Chill" because I was trying to be cool with this ugly yellow tank.

We haven't and probably won't give names our current cars, though.

I have four cars, only one has a bame. It broke down three times on me, I call it "The Crap Car."

Oh I forgot. I bought a $600 Station Wagon from a Widow. The car was about 15 years old. It was "yellow" and my kids called it the Bananna Boat. I had to drop them off at school a block away because they were embarassed. But, darn that was a good car. It was after my divorce and before Alimony was settled. LOL!

My DH bought an old, used Ford pickup truck that has been a workhorse and a half. She is now retired, but her name was "Betty" (as in Betty Ford, first lady). My dad gave us an Impala SS, the last of the muscle cars, and our friend named it "The General" after the Dukes of Hazzard for some reason. We bought a Honda Element, green, for a tow vehicle for the motorhome and call it "The Toad" as in "I go where I'm towed". But we don't name our vehicles LOL.

I just call mine "purty" coz it is. Just 10 minutes, DH drove in and I said, "I never get tired of seeing that truck!"

I should have known when I paid for that price.... just wasn't too good to be true.

All my cars/pickups have had the same name.
I call them "Girlie".
They always get a little pat on the dashboard when I start them up & I tell them where we are going.
When we get back home I give them another pat & tell them "Good for you, Girlie".

The previous Girlie only gave me trouble once in all the times that I drove her altho she broke down on my husband a few times. I believe that he abused her in some way.....probably driving over the speed limit...lol.

Oh, I should have mentioned my first car--my beloved white Studebaker Lark VII.

The license plate started with the letters "PJ", one day we were going down the shore in the rain. My dad was behind me in his truck. One part of the road was flooded and being a relatively new driver--I didn't know any better, and didn't know any detours that would have taken me around the deep water--I just plowed right though it. My car handled the excursion just fine! But from that day forward, my Dad called that car (and subsequent ones, because I STILL have that license plate # on my current car), "Puddle Jumper".

The BMW is called "The Beemer"
The Denali is called "The Wagon"
The Tacoma is called "a Driveway Decoration"
The big green quad is called "Grandma"

I had a burgundy Buick Electra station wagon - you remember - that was when they put contact paper on the sides to resemble wood panels. I gave it to my son and he called it the Battle Wagon. And after driving it to high school for 3 years that's exactly what it looked like.

My current car is Lexy - it's a white GX470.

I'm not speaking to my car right now cause SHE let me down...she's in the shop getting a new transmission at 80,000 miles...it's happened to several of my model so we're fighting the car company...they should just suck it up and admit they have a problem...but wont!

I drive a PT Cruiser...her name is "PT"...I know, original.

I think the only car I ever "named" was the black & white 1956 Plymouth I bought from my step-dad for $10.00 and this was in 1971...She was known as "the tank"....no horn, no radio, gas gauge wasn't true! The cigarette lighter worked as well as the headlights! Gas was a whole 35 cents a gallon and cigarettes were 50 cents. Beer was always free!

I have great memories of "the tank"....we could put 10 bodies in the trunk, 4 in the back seat and 4 across the front seat....off to the passion pit we would go! Oh what great times we had.

I have a Nisson Altima. I call her Annie Altima.

When my dad passed away I inherited his car. It is now in car heaven but I did keep his personalized plates which I will keep on any car I own. So I call my car Murray after him!

"My car" and "the truck". My MIL used to name all her vehicles the same thing and I found it so annoying. She would talk about them as if they were real people and it was confusing as all get-out. Hence, no names for inanimate objects other than my body pillow which takes up so much room on the bed that we had to name it because it looks like there's an extra body in there.

I don't remember naming any of our cars. Our first new motorcycle was a Suzuki Cavalcade which was huge. I started calling it the Arc and my husband hated that I called it that since it was his baby. So I started calling it Noah as in Noah's Arc. He didn't catch on for quite awhile. Our friends used to call it GT since from the back the passenger seat looked like the character GT from the movie. That sure was a great bike, wish we still had it.

I thought I was the only one who name her cars. I have always done this.

My Cadillac is named "Diamond Lil" or "Lil" for short...because the color is "White Diamond".

My previous car was "Bessie". I drove her for 20 years, gave her to a friend, and he recently retired her.

I've named trees, but I don't think I have ever named a car.

I guess I could tho. I have a black Dodge Dakota pickup....Dude comes to mind.

Jody has a tan Chevy pick up....looks like a Glenn to me.

Oh, yeah....we have a bright yellow (school bus yellow) old dodge truck. I think I have called it "Old Yeller" a few times....as well as a few other choice words. I bet it doesn't get 6 miles to the gallon!

And there is a Taurus here, that Jody plans to give away.
The only name I can think of for it is..."B*tch." That is the worst car we have ever owned, and we've had some bad ones. Jody bought it for our daughter, but it was never relieable enough to give to her. We spent 3 times the money it was worth, working on it. And, BTW, it belonged at one time to Jody's first love, who jilted him and married someone else....just a co-incidence. I told him, "I don't know if you ever went to bed with her, but she sure *******
you."

The car I have now is Maddie (Mazda).

I have had Lucy (Vega), Connie (Concord), Matilda (Ford), Henrietta (Honda), Maddie (Honda) and Grabber (Ford) not necessarily in that order. Maddie the Honda was my mother's car but I'm so short I couldn't see out the back window properly so I had to trade it in for Maddie the Mazda. Since my mother's middle name was Madeline I kept the name Maddie for the new car.

A minister heard me talking about naming cars one day and guess what the sermon was about that week.....one shouldn't name inanimate objects. Geez some people have no sense of humour!

I think it is a lot of fun giving cars names!

I'm late getting here, but have really enjoyed this post. Hubby and I have always named every vehicle we've ever owned and had a stuffed animal mascot to match the name. For example, our black and white Ford truck was Petunia, and had a little skunk in it. My silver mustand was Mousie, and had a mouse. Our Ford Taurus wagon was Taury and had a little bull. Currently, hubby's brown volvo wagon is Brownie...no mascot yet. My car is a bright yellow Toyota Scion XB named Tweety by a niece and has Tweety decals all over it plus Tweetys inside.

I'm real original!! I just call it "My Sonata"
