Have you updated your protection and scanned your computer? It could be a virus.

If you're using a wireless set [keyboard and mouse]...it [or they] probably needs new batteries, Janie. Depending upon your length of daily usage...most batteries won't last much longer than a month or two [if that] if you're continually on your 'puter.

As an aside to the above suggestion...I was going bonkers changing batteries in my one and only wireless mouse until I realized...after a lengthy investigation...that I have a geographic magnetic field very near my home. I was going through batteries about every 2 - 3 days. I returned to a wired mouse and keyboard immediately...never to benefit from anything wireless again. The only reason my entire system doesn't seem to be affected by this phenomenon is that my internet access if via cable broadband.

My batteries last 2 or 3 months at least. The first wireless mouse they came out with was very hard on batteries. When my last mouse went out it wasn't a bad mouse it was a virus.

It maybe that you simply need to reboot your computer. Do it this way to reset everything.

Turn off your computer, unplug. Wait for at least 10 seconds and plug back; Then, turn the computer back on. If it's a laptop, after unplugging, remove the battery at the bottom of the computer. Wait at least 10 seconds, put the battery back, plug and turn it on.

Hopefully, that will reset your keyboard & mouse drives.

Thanks all, I got frustrated and "banged" around on the keys. I think Elmo (he likes to lay on the keyboard) may have jammed one of the media keys- you know the ones on the top row, above the F keys. Keyboard started working but I still went through the scan- found t
wo virus files and they have been quarantined. For some reason the computer will not delete them but as long as they are quarantined, I should be okay.

You may need to get a can of compressed air and blow out the keyboard a bit if Elmo sheds a lot. Every now and then I have to pop the keys and clean wads of hair out from under the keys on my notebooks. Strangely, only a few keys are the worst affected but the hair, or fur, does build up under a lot of the keys. One likes to drag his tail on the keyboard. I think it's a protest and he's trying to type with his tail, or type his own tale, who knows, but the Manx doesn't have that problem, though she gets fur in there other ways.

Otherwise, for keyboard problems, sometimes just unplugging and plugging the keyboard back in will help. If it's USB you can do this while the computer is running. If it's the old style, it should be shut off before unplugging.

Mine gave me a fit awhile back and I think what we did was to remove the mouse hardware then put it back in. You should have a disk for it.

it may not be you. in ny the computers have been going crazy. i can get online, my sil whose less than 20 feet away from me cant, my brother just had his hooked up and it works fine. my aunt in ct (im in ny) is having major problems. usually its me that has all the problems. my router/modem thats at my mom and dads got hit by lighteneing, my techy guy that comes to fix it is good. this one though is being a real pain in the behiney. mine usually stays on 24/7. now ive got to shut down and restart about every other hour.

I came in the house one evening and heard talking. It wasn't the radio or tv. Kinda freaked me out. My cat had done something on the keyboard and my computer was giving voice commands. I didn't even know it could do that. It's bad when your cats are more computer savy that you are. ;)
