I would do freecycle. It is easy to make a post and you know it is going to someone that will want and use it.

PS- When I have stuff on freecycle, I just put in a bag or a box and leave on my front porch. I don't ever have any interaction with the people picking stuff up. Very easy!

I recommend freecycle as well. I've given away a lot to stuff to very appreciative people.

Absolutely Freecycle! I've been using that for years, and have met some wonderful people.

If you don't want to be home or physically interact with the person who will get the jars, do a Porch Pick Up. But Do Not put your address in the post. Some people do that and it's not safe, nor is it within the rules. We discourage people from publicizing their address and phone number.

When you decide who you want to give your items to, tell that person only where you live, and leave it out on the porch (or not).

Try Freecycle for this, and other stuff. Sign up for your area. I've only had to meet one person for a larger item. The others are smaller porch pickup items at their convenience. Be sure to re-post that the item has been "taken". Keep any email inquiries, there can be no shows. (I email them if the item is taken, to avoid hopeful waiting.) Everyone must be at the beach, I haven't had any free stuff, or wanted, all summer!

Freecycle, in my experience, is not such a good idea if you don't want your email slammed with people asking for pictures. I dropped my membership the first day - had over 50 responses to some little thing I was getting rid of. I stated I had no way to post pictures, but they asked anyway.

I am moving and have placed tons of stuff on the curb - gone within 30 minutes - all of it. I'd suggest making a sign that you can place in a baggie and tape to the items, saying that it's free and what it's for. You don't have to deal with anyone doing it this way.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Kayjones, I'm glad you shared about the problem with your emali getting slammed - I think I'll set up a gmail account just for Freecycle. I have a couple of other things to give away too, and I think I will add some pics.

If I want to get rid of something very quickly, I will post it on Craig's List otherwise I use Freecycle. Sometimes the problem with Freecycle is that posts have to be approved by volunteer moderators and sometimes it takes a day or two for someone to approve it. By that time the weekend or whatever has passed and it's inconvenient for me to just leave something out for pickup.

Carabubble, setting up a separate emails for Freecycle is a good idea.

There is a separate spot where you can post photos (under Photos). Just state in your posting that people can see the photos under whatever username you want to use.

New members are always moderated, so that they don't spam, and otherwise follow the simple guidelines. (Posting things legal and appropriate for all ages etc) I've seen posts where people want to give away beer, and boxes of Playboy magazines.
Within a short period of time, usually, they are unmoderated. (I'm a moderator on a few Freecycle sites)

I have given away things on Freecycle, but we have the best luck just putting things out at the end of the driveway with a big FREE sign on them. Then it is fun to sit in the house and watch people stop to grab stuff. LOL

If your street is at all busy, I agree with the idea of just sticking the stuff out there with a big "Free" sign, that'll remain when the various items are taken.
