I hve the original top header valance that matches the other windows. I have a panel that I can see thru then have a pair of drapes that I got at Walmart that shuts out the light when pulled across. I forgot the name but they are great and in beige. The afternoon light can be very harsh since it is a west window.
I think I paid about $20 something for them
DS had an iron grill door installed for me a couple of years ago so I can leave the drapes open with the screen door to get lots of fresh air if I want it too.

I have 3 sliding glass doors. I currently have vertical blinds.....but I like the look of lined grommet top draperies on decorative rods. :0)

Note: In my house the sun cooks everything in the winter so cloth draperies would be impratical. It keeps my heating bill low and my spirits high...so NO...I'm not putting up low E glass or window film.

I have vertical Bali blinds on the patio door and cellular Bali's on the big window on the right of the door.

i have curtains, 3 panels of them to go across, suspended from a curtain rod. we have mirror film on them to block light, it definitely makes it dark. we have old 1969 huge sliding doors 8 1/2' tall X 18' long they leak A/C and heat like crazy, luckily they open onto the screened in lanai so direct sun is not an issue. we are replacing them this fall (aka dec here in orlando lol) right now it's tooooo hot to even think about that lol. you can not use reflective film on anything but single pane glass, it causes heat build up between the panes and the glass will crack. if you have argon gas between panes you also can not use reflective film because the heat build up causes seal failure and the gas will leak out. we will be getting vinyl (maybe inside wood clad) double paned, argon gas, sun glass and tempered.

i am still debating window treatments myself. vertical blinds are not for me, they just don't keep that new look or hang perfectly all the time. i had been decided on the window fashions inside the sliding doors, even thou it is VERY expensive (those doors for us would be $4000+) but it's a onetime expense and gives the cleanest, neatest look of all. well in june i was up at my sis's who has older 1980's french doors w/ inside cellular blinds that are broken lol. now i don't know...we will be selling w/in 1-5 yrs so i won't recoup the expensive door costs and i'm not sure i could even commit to a window fashion to put inside anyways LOL. i'll probably just do curtains again, i just hate that there is a center panel because of the width of the doors, panels wide enough to just use 2 are several hundred $$$.

for me it's more of a privacy issue since we are used to that mirror film LOL. i just went thru this when replacing the master bedroom windows, we had a thread going about replacement windows and sunlight going thur or fri. you might also read. let us know what you do i'm definitely interested ~ liz

I have tab top curtains on a dowel rod. They are easy to pull open or closed.

Tab top curtains also, and a LOT of dog slobber!!!

I forgot that I also have the blinds like vala but they are behind my sun shield drapes.
I also don't like the idea of anyone looking in any of my windows

I have a beautiful brown twin sized bed sheet..I have been wanting to get something new, but cant find what I want. When it got hot here, hubby just pinned the sheet up. Keeps the light and heat out!

Bought the insulated tab top curtains from Plow and Hearth. We love them.. Helps with the cold in the winter, too. I now have them at all my windows. They wash well and look great...

I have a farmers hedge row behind my house, no houses and I enjoy that view. I like the open feel of no curtains and I don't miss the dust they collect. I open my blinds the minute I get up and close them when I turn the lights on at night. When I moved into my new home I had a sofa two chairs, lamp tables, a ornamental desk, book cases, etc, etc, etc.. I looked at my living area one day and realized it had shrunk big time. Now I only have 3 chairs, no sofa and eliminated a lot of the stuff sitting here and there. It opened my home and it looks larger now.

I have an insulated roll down sort of curtain. Think quilted in channels on the side of the doors. It was here when we moved in 19 years ago. You can't see thru it, and you have to roll it up and down to use the door, but it's a Godsend in the winter! It's probably close to a 10° difference in the winter in my kitchen! I don't know the name of it or who makes it. And the only way to find out is to take the pulley apart.

I have insulated draperies and blinds that are between the window glass. It is never used as a patio door as there is no patio.

Our family room has a dog door panel set into the slider. The door has a pair of large corner windows next to it. So we have verticals that we cut to apron length at the windows and also cut to length just over over the dog flap (5 slats) . DH re-did the verticals so the open away from the corners at the windows.

So the dogs can go and out whether the verticals are open or shut.

I have the same thing that Vala has except mine are white. I would love a cute set of curtains to put there though.

I am curious to see what other people have as well.

These are the sliding panels I want. They come in all sorts of materials but I like the woven ones and I'd get matching blinds for the other windows.
