Remember lanolin?

Years ago lanolin was mentioned all over the place, mostly as an ingredient in beauty products. Somewhere along the line it disappeared from advertisements, and I haven't thought about it in years--until this morning, when I ordered a bottle of Vitamin D3 and read on the label that it was derived from lanolin.

Lanolin is produced by sheep, and is in their wool. I once knew a woman who raised sheep, and kept her hands soft by running them through the wool.

When I was a La Leche League leader we recommended hydrous lanolin to new mothers, but that was the last I heard of it.

My guess is this natural ingredient in beauty products was replaced by something cheaper.
