OK, of course, I CAN determine what it is saying, and I have seen this several times. Does that mean I will read it, or anyone's badly spelled or punctuated treatise after the first few words?

If you think that is amazing think about this. I have been an Amateur radio (ham radio) operator since 1975 and my favorite mode of operation is morse code.

In order to increase our operating speed generally when sending morse code we drop all the vowels out of the words and in addition we have certain two or three character groups that take the place of words. By example, in morse code we HI HI to laugh in the same manner as LOL is used online and rather than send the word "and" we send "es".

On top of that, we have a long set of Q codes that are three letter groups beginning with Q that mean entire phrases, such as QRZ= who's calling me,,,,QTH means my location is... QRM= I am having trouble receiving you because of electronic noise on the freqency..QRN= I am having trouble receiving you because of atmospheric conditions.

When we first begin receiving morse code we frantically copy each character and write it down, then try to sort through it to figure out the meaning, but with practice we reach a point where we hear the three or four letter groups as complete words and seldon have to write any of it down.

For those of you who feel you have re-invented the wheel with the abbreviations you use in texting, allow me to show you a line amateur radio traffic as it would be transcribed from morse code:

iespell will work for your typing into the reply boxes here and other places on line that you would need it to. It should have put a little iespell icon on your browser toolbar. I never use IE anymore but I have used IEspell for years back when I did. What version of IE are you using? click up top on help then about IE and it will tell you the version. Testing with Firefox 39.0 on the Windows forum... Working for me. "Can it be that individual forums on houzz have different posting rules? don't allow a spell check to be active?" everything! word, email, typing anywhere. window comes up, and if I don't catch it right away, all writing disappears, I know how to get that back, but why do I have to go thru the misery of spell check taking it away. using 7 as my operating system, been so darn good lately, I have endured long enuf now, would like some results.

Here it is decoded.......

KA5QLD (call sign of station being called) DE (means called by)KC8UXZ (call sign of station making the call) RRR ( means Message Follows)GE OM ES TNX FER CUL (Good evening Old Man and thanks for call) UR RST 599 599 (RST is a signal report meaning READABILITY on a scale of 1-5, SIGNAL STRENGTH & TONE on a scale of 1-9 and the RST is repeated. QTH = my location..the rest your figured out except you didn't mention my typo at the end,,,We sign back to the other party by sending our call sign followed by KN which means back to you, but note that I have a typo in the call sign on the end....LOL

Now if you think for one moment that you make typos on a keyboard, imagine how many we can make when sending morse code at 30wpm. Actually you can only send code at about 15wpm with a conventional telegraph type code key, after that we use mechanical or electronic keyers that have two paddles on them. Move one paddle and it sends dots, move the other and it sends dashes and if you move them both at the same time it will alternate dots & dashes.

I have a close friend who is thought to be the fastest CW operator in the world. He has been measured by a computer at 61wpm (5 characters per word)

So cool! Thanks for the decoding. Funny how texting uses THX for thanks, but you use TNX for thanks. As to speed, I've never been very fast on the keyboard. I can't imagine going very fast in Morse or on those court reporting machines because it's like you are typing in a foreign language. Of course, the more you do something, the more proficient you become.
