Problem with spell check

Recently when I type out an email to send, and use spell check it was in French.. I thought I had it corrected when I reinstalled Google. Now today it is back today. French instead of English. Previously I had gone to Tools etc and everything there looks ok.

What it I do now?

I thought about trying to answer this but changed my mind when I read the words "reinstalled Google". I have no idea what that means. More information is needed.

When you say "reinstalled Google" do you mean G-mail?

We had a problem with the computer, and my son had to run several checks to clear it of problems picked up. Everything seems to be working now except spell check. I went to Word (not OE)and typed a sentence with errors. A window came up that said that MSSpell check could not be found. After that I typed another document with spelling errors, and it came up that the spell check was complete, but it did not pick up the errors. I guess my spell check got deleted somehow, so maybe I need to reinstall Word?

"Can it be that a web site can control/override my setting of spell check in my browser?" I'd noticed spell-check not working on some sites too, but hadn't investigated. As it turns out, they can turn spell-check off, at least in a specific HTML element. Why would a site would want to do that? I don't know, perhaps just to make me feel dumb. iespell will work for your typing into the reply boxes here and other places on line that you would need it to. It should have put a little iespell icon on your browser toolbar. I never use IE anymore but I have used IEspell for years back when I did. What version of IE are you using? click up top on help then about IE and it will tell you the version. You might try Speckie add on. this might be helpful Add Spell Checking to Internet Explorer 9

I think that is what the problem is, I am typing along, a little box comes up and before I can get rid of the darn thing, all my message/letter/word etc/., is GONE/ I know how to get it back, but would prefer not having to do that to begin with, I think the box is for spell check or sumpin like that, there are several things to check, just so darn aggravating, more and more it comes, and I am getting older by the minute ! Thanks to anyone that can help out here, haven't been here in a while, so many of the good oldtimers are gone too, but being smart doesnt hurt either. Thanks again, hoping for some responses.

I too am confused, because I am not sure where to look. My Spell check in involved with the google bar on the top of the computer. Will continue to work and this mystery.

Maybe this helps. I went to Outlook Express (my email ) to tools, to options, to spelling. On the bottom where it says Language, it is locked into France. I cannot change it. Don't know how to unlock it/change to English.

I got this from Outlook Express help:

"To check the spelling in messages

Outlook Express uses the spelling checker provided with the following Microsoft Office programs: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint. If you do not have one of these programs installed, the Spelling command is not available.

In the New Message window, click Spelling on the toolbar, or on the Tools menu, click Spelling.
Note

To customize the way your spelling checker works, on the Tools menu, click Options, and then select the Spelling tab."
