What is everyone cooking today? I am working on some food things for tomorrow's family dinner. I have the chicken cooked for chicken and noodles. I have to take the meat off the bones in a bit when it cools a little. I have part of the refrigerator yeast roll dough in the making. I have an angel food cake to get iced and potatoes I want to peel. I also want to mix up some Jello with crushed pineapple to have ready to add Cool whip and marshmallows to tomorrow. It is really nice out again today. A great day to be outside. How is your day going?

Have chicken defrosting to make son chicken tenders, with mac & cheese, not sure what veggie. His request.

I put a corned beef in the crock pot this morning because I needed to clean the kitchen--again. Wiped all the cabinets down (they're white) with my magic eraser or whatever they're called. Boy, do I love those things! Mopped the Florida room and the kitchen and now I have to peel potatoes and carrots and get some onions and cabbage ready to cook. I don't like them cooked in the CP so I take the meat out, put the broth in a Dutch oven and cook them on top of the stove.

I woke up at 2:30 this morning and never did go back to sleep. Maybe I'll take a little nap.

I subscribe to the NYT Weekender home delivery and with that package we get access to the recipes. We get an email a few times a week with links to excellent recipes and I just love the writing. It's really fun to read. I also subscribe to the print edition of Cooking Light and so I can access it on line to save recipes. About 5 years ago, I went on a diet to lose 30 pounds and I found that reading recipes (especially before going to bed) was immensely helpful in helping me control my urge to eat! I know that it sounds counter-intuitive but it really worked for me. Something about imagining food satisfied my cravings. I don't actually have to eat it! I have signed up for a few blogs too. I really like the Mediterranean Dish blog and the Proud Italian Cook blog.

"...but how can I make gravy ahead, when I use the pan drippings from the turkey?" Carol, you might take a look at this for make-ahead gravy. It's worth the time to make ahead...tasty and a stress reliever for turkey day. I've added some sprigs of thyme, sage and/or rosemary. Up to you. Make-Ahead Turkey Gravy 3 lbs turkey wings (or combination of wings, thighs, leg) 2 medium onions, peeled and quartered 1 cup water 8 cups chicken broth 3/4 cup chopped carrots 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme 3/4 cup flour 2 tablespoons butter 1/2 teaspoon pepper Salt, to taste Heat oven to 400. Arrange wings in a single layer in a large roasting pan. Scatter onions over top. Roast 1 1/4 hours until wings are browned. Put wings and onions in a 5-6 quart pot. Add water to roasting pan and stir to scrape up any brown bits on the bottom. Add the brown bits to the pot. Add 6 cups broth (put remaining 2 cups in fridge) add carrot and thyme. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered. 1 1/2 hours. Remove wings. Save wing meat for another use or discard. Strain broth into a 3 quart saucepan, pressing vegetables to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard vegetables. Skim fat off broth and discard. (If time permits, refrigerate broth overnight to make fat skimming easier.) Whisk flour into remaining 2 cups broth until well blended. Bring broth in pot to a gentle boil. Whisk in flour/broth mixture and boil 3-4 minutes to thicken gravy and cook flour. Stir in butter and pepper. Add salt, to taste. Serve or freeze up to 6 months.

For the post-post-Thanksgiving dinner, I’m making clam chowder. Basic recipe, potatoes diced and parcooked in duck stock, then shallots, garlic, scallions, slivered brussel sprouts sautéed in butter, add drained potatoes, add flour and herbs/spices/S/P, add a bagful of clam meat (frozen from Asian store), a bunch of T’giving ham diced, then milk, heavy cream, some stale bread buzzed in mini-Cuisinart, and a can of sardines mashed up (since there’s no actual clam juice, I wanted something seafood-y). I can’t find Old Bay but used enough other herbs/spices to approximate it. Simmering now and will add a bunch of minced parsley for color and before serving. It tastes okay, not the best clam chowder I’ve had by some distance, but will be acceptable comfort soup.

Yes, even I, the veteran blog hater, check AnnT's blog periodically, but she doesn't make me look at 15 pictures of flour before I get to the bread, and her recipes are easily accessed. I don't "do" any social media, so no Facebook or Twitter or Instagram or TikTok. I just made her Brandied Cherry Balls for Amanda for Christmas and took a batch of her Danish to Elery's family for Thanksgiving. The leftovers were promptly claimed by the grandkids and marked for breakfast consumption. I also use her biscuit and scone recipes regularly. AnnT, I am so happy to "see" you here again! I do make a salmon quiche, though, courtesy of SharonCB and a savory cheesecake from KatieC, and so I think a salmon cheesecake would make a nice appetizer spread with crackers or some of AnnT's perfect baguettes. I don't care for the InstaPot, though, it's too fiddly, so I'd have to put mine in the oven, LOL. Annie

Took my OLD dryer to the scarp yard, got $30 for it! Gas to get there. $23! :0) DH is installing new glass in 5 windows, he just finished.

Cleaning out the fridg....so tonight were having cream of celery soup...on the side,then chicken & rice on corn tortillas, with cheese, smothered in green chile sauce, topped with sour cream!

I just took those blueberry muffins out of the oven.....they smell heavenly.
We bought fresh blueberries yesterday afternoon.
I have no other cooking plans today.....it is time to go outside and do some heavy gardening.

I just took some blueberry/pineapple muffins out of the oven. Then I am fixing that Baked Potato Pizza for DH & a regular Pizza for me.

Yes its posted. DH wasn't thrilled with it, no WOW to it.

We had YO YO (Your On Your Own) tonight! We went to a 1:00 wedding and ate a full meal at 3:00. Kinda odd, but it all had to do with the kids being teachers out of state and they needed time to get back and relax a little before back to teaching on Monday. They had crusted chicken breasts, almond green beans, WONDERFUL garlic potatoes and a pasta salad. So we had some chicken salad on crackers this evening and ice cream with peaches!

JoAnn...would you post a link for the recipes again, I want to make sure I have it. THANKS!
