Since 1975 I've lived in a rural community largely populated by families who have lived here for generations. Most of the social life is church-centered, and most of the people belong to a fundamentalist Christian church at the end of the road. But we don't, so I've never participated in any sort of local gathering.

In a town 10 miles away, however, things are different. Free music takes place in the park during the summer, and a group organizes different kinds of community events all year round, including a family game night once a month. When my kids were younger, a wildlife sanctuary used to sponsor winter activities like ice skating on a pond with an outdoor fire. We had a lot of fun.

About 20 years ago, when we first moved into this neighborhood we did have a few block parties.
Now, the neighborhood is changing into much bigger homes, with new families and young children. There has not been a block party since those years.
You are lucky to have social neighbors.

We have a ladies luncheon once a month in a local restaurant and at Christmas time we usually have some kind of gathering.

That sounds nice. I have met the neighbor right next door, and the one across the street but that's it. Everyone kind of keeps to themselves here, which is funny cause the houses are so close together.

There are activities all summer, but nothing considered to be a block party for neighbors.

We've had neighbors try having a block party...but.....my neighbors are not people that want to hang out together. :0)

We've got Barb, the neighborhood gossip....avoid her.

Then Mike#1 called once accusing ME of throwing a rock threw his kitchen window, never apologized when he found out who did it....never said "I'm sorry".....what an A$$.

Mike #2 has tried stealing the property along side my house twice now. This week he's putting in a new fence and has trampled my flower garden to dust! 2nd time in 2 years he's redone his fence! The last time he tried fencing in MY property, said I wasn't using it. :0(

Girl across the street moved in 2 years ago, paid cash with her trust fund(she was 25 yrs old) and tried having a formal attire house warming for herself, all neighbors invited. Now she won't speak unless spoken to first and rarely goes outside.....

Think these people do better by themselves!

We have a neighborhood block party every few years. This is a well-established area and most people have lived here for many years. We are very fortunate to have nice neighbors, and we get together to socialize with several of them on occasion.
