"Block" Party At The Beach Last Night

We live on a 'country road' with some cul-de-sacs, so we don't actually have a 'block', but neighbors have created a late summer gathering several times since we moved here in 2001. We were invited to our fist before our house was even finished.

Last night was catered tacos and fixings at our town's newly-renovated beach park. About fifty adults plus teens attended the event, held a renovated pavilion just off the sand.

Houses are set back a bit on our road, so unless you have kids in school, etc., you don't see your neighbors often. We met three new-to-us couples and caught up with others. There's to be a new Neighborhood Directory.

We had *perfect* weather. There was just enough breeze to create some moonlit 'ruffles' breaking on the lake shore and the temperature was about 70F. The local garden clubs' collaboration with the town has created outstanding landscaping in the park atop the bluff and right down to the parking area and beach.

Driving through a quiet town on the way home was what DH dubbed "A Rockwell Moment" -- some couples walking, a few families spilling out of a corner ice cream shop, nobody hurrying, everyone soaking in the end of a lush summer. (He didn't even gripe about the gas lamps -- usually a pet peeve.)

Does your neighborhood have similar inclusive gatherings?
