Need Home Remedy......Glue Removal

Does anyone here have any suggestions on what to use to remove glue? We pulled up the old carpet in our basement and we have a section of floor that has old glue on it. The previous owner did not have padding so they glued the carpet down. We are able to scrape it off but are looking for something that will use a little less elbow grease.

In a moment of desperatiion my husband used WD 40 to remove some glue that was stuck to our wood floor. Since it's a solvent is worked well and didn't damage the hardwood floor. But I can't imagine how many cans you'd go through. There must be another product you can try.

As mcmann said - WD 40 works well. I used it on some rug runners that had been glued to our hardwood floor.

Get a plastic pot scrubber, do a little at a time, then rinse well. It IS hard work and DOES take time, but it doesn't mess up your floor. Good luck and let us know how it came out.

Chlorine creates tastes and odors when there is only a small amount present and it is "dying off" since it only active for a short period of time. Water with good dose of Cl2 doesn't have taste/odor issues. Removing the Cl2 from the water will take away the ability of the water to withstand contamination from germs. If you are only having issues with strong odors it could be caused by chlorine dioxide. ClO2 is used by a lot of surface water systems as it is a very strong oxidizer and disinfectant. It does react with fumes from cleaning products, paint, wallpaper, carpet, vinyl shower curtains, hairspray, glues, etc,. We get a lot of calls about it especially when folks are remodeling bathrooms and kitchens.

What kind of trees are they? If they're decent hardwood trees with valuable lumber you might be able to get someone to do it for nearly free in exchange for the wood--black walnut and cherry come to mind as extremely valuable, but fruit wood, nut wood, oak, maple and elm are also valuable. Call an arborist and see if they can direct you to someone. Or call local mills that deal in hardwood, and/or any local industries that use hardwood (furniture makers come to mind.) If the trees aren't worth anything, you could always post on Craigslist and see if someone will do the job for less than a tree company. (Ask about their experience and tools...I also wouldn't do this if any of the trees could fall on your house or your neighbors' houses though.). Otherwise, I'm out of ideas!

Thanks, DDD, for the picture! Actually my curved front flower bed begins at planter's half way mark and curves around holly tree at right front corner. I like the English garden look, but waiting to spiff it up after all the paver work. I think I would prefer curve to front walk (vs. hard right angles) and definitely plan to paver little grass square on right side. When we moved in, there was an overgrown shrub in that spot which we removed. Looking at your picture, IF PALMS COULD BE REMOVED FROM PLANTERS W/O DAMAGING CONCRETE, would it make sense to fill planters & use as pedestals for seasonal flower pots? Again, I"M NOT VISUAL ...

Vinegar will remove any epoxy/glue.

Believe it or not, I had heard about using real mayonnaise on glue, and it worked! It has to sit for about 5 minutes, but it did the job.

However, WD40 is tried and true.

If WD 40 doesn't work, don't forget that a heat gun (available at home improvement stores) will melt the glue. You should then be able to 'ball' it up and remove it.
