Question about clothing sizes (baby)

Now that I know I'm having a girl, I dont have a need for all the boy clothes I've accumulated over the last 2 years, and trust me, it's alot!

I'm trying to figure out what to do with them all, but my first step is to separate them by size. Some clothes are sized 6 months, then 6-9 or 6-12, etc.

My question is this: If I have a size 12 month, would you think it should be catagorized with the 6-12 or 12-18 month clothes? I'd like to try to bundle as many sizes as possible and not have an entirely separate set for just the 12 month size.

What do you think?

It depends. If you have a lot that are just 12 months, I would do a separate pile. If it's just a few, I would tend to go toward the 12 to 18 months.

I'd compare the item to the other clothes in the piles and if it looks smallish, put it in the 6-12 and if it looks larger, put it with the 12-18 months. If you don't want to bother, put it with the 6-12. People would rather get clothes a big larger than smaller, I'd think.

I haven't found sizing to mean all that much in kids clothing. Nick still wears pjs to bed that are 18 mos!

I'd put medium and small (or M and S) in the title and then put the actual measurements in the listing. I'd measure the width too (around the belly) and not just the length. I'd put the type of dog it would fit in the title too (Yorkie, Maltese etc.). Sometimes the owners of a specific breed are looking for other things and will find your listing by accident and that could mean a sale for you.

I cloth diapered my son who is now 5 1/2, here are my thoughts. A 484 prefold (with the dark blue stitching) in a wrap will swallow a newborn, they are just too big. Did you get some of the smaller infant size prefolds too? They have dark green stitching and are the same thing, just a smaller size. You can use them when the baby gets bigger too as a doubler for nighttime. Just fold one up into thirds and put it inside the bigger prefold. Bulky, yes, but very absorbent for overnight. For the tiny newborn phase I've heard that buying a couple 24-packs of cheapie cotton washcloths and using them inside a wrap cover is great. And you can use the washcloths as diaper wipes later or just throw them away if they are too stained. I've seen them at Walmart for I think $3 a pack. We loved Prorap brand velcro wraps. Didn't much care for Bummi or Bumkin wraps but we loved the Bumkin all-in-ones. Dappi pull on covers are very good, cheap and reliable but the velcro ones run very small and IMO aren't near as reliavble as Proraps. I also have to second the recommendation for an Aristocrat wool cover. Ds used to wake up soaked from his chest to his knees in anything but a Chinese prefold (with the aforementioned infant prefold inside arrangement) and an Ari. They require special care but are well worth it if you have a heavy wetter. Fuzzibunz didn't fit my son right. A friend of mine had the same issues. And another friend tried them but her baby ended up have an allergic reaction to the fleece, something to watch out for. IMO cloth diapers, no matter what covers you end up using, are going to be more comfortable for the baby in July than disposables. Washing diapers is easy. What I did: -Cold rinse cycle with nothing added -Warm wash/cold rinse cycle with detergent -Cold rinse cycle with nothing added Occasionally I would use vinegar in this rinse, followed by another rinse with plain water. I would suggest that you first take some sewing classes somewhere.Usually have them at the community college. Have you ever sewn anything at all,do you know how to run a sewing machine and do you have one.If not you are going to have to take this a step at a time. What made you think you want to do this? It isn't like washing dishes,you have to have some preparations,some knowledge of how it all works and comes together. So if you think you really want to do this,get out the yellow pages,look up the college in your area or adult education centers or some stores that give lessons. Sewing can be very rewarding,but it can also be very frustrating and a waste of money if you don't know what you are getting into. If you do get into this there are lots of ladies willing to help out when you have questions. Good luck,let us know what you decide. Kathi

My Skids have plenty of clothes and they do bring a bag from biomom but in the last 2 years or so she has stopped phoning and saying there is somehting missing and my dh now has stopped being petty as well cause i tell him its there clothes...who cares what comes and goes! they wear it not us!. There are times where there is an event we go to when we watn them dressed nicely, we have back up that here at our house. They also have 'good' clean clothes at moms for good occasions that they also do not bring here. And i read a thread of not cleaning clothes or use of laundry machine? what load of crap is that!!! my sd had her period a few months ago and was embarassed to go to her dad so she came to me inteh bathroom and asked if i would clean her underwear. She was worried she ruined them cause of the stains. I had oxyclean..works wonders on those monthly bills for nature! she appreciated it and regardless to the fact that we are not always onthe same page me and her, i will not leave her feeling bad about underwear stains. She looked humiliated. and i felt it was my right as a woman to help her. I even helped a poor father in the pharmacy last week...lol..he looked lost and panicky inthe pad section. lol...he said his 12 year old daughter just started her period that morning, mom was at work what do i do!!! i can't reach her on the phone...i thought to myself..why the panic? i guess its a guy thing. Pointed him out several brands and sizes..he bought 3 of each! heheehhehe..

Steph - congrats on the baby girl!

Tyler is now wearing 9-12 month clothes. I have found that 12m clothes also fit. So, I have categorized 12m with the 9-12m stuff. Some is bigger and will fit the next size up as well, but mostly it all fits him now.

I agree with Paula though. I'd rather get clothes that he can grow into rather than clothes that are too small.

Have fun! I was so overwhelmed when we pulled out Jacob's bins for Tyler. I didn't know we had so many clothes!

Thanks. I was kinda thinking the same in that I'd put the 12 month with the 6-12 month. I'll just wait and see how much I have and if it's alot, I'll keep them seperate entirely.

Put them with 6-12. They may have shrunk or could be used by larger babies who would need that size before 12 months. You are very organized.

When I have sorted out the clothes, and being on baby number 4 on the way I find the easiest is to go by the 3-6 or what ever and then compare the odd ones that are 12 months or what ever to see if they fit into the 6-12 months or 12-18 months. Some came from garage sales already washed and shrunk and some never got worn. I find I have to compare sizes most of the time. Well, if we are having another boy, I would trade you your boy things for my 2 girls girly things. I have at least 2 35 gallon totes of every size from 0-3 months to 5t:)

if it were my dgd (who just turned 1) it would be 6-12 mos! she's pretty tall and already beginning to wear 2's! i'd keep all the pants, onesies, and some of the shirts...you can always embelish them...(bit of lace or ribbons...)

Thanks again for your suggestions. I ended up having alot of 12 month so for now, they're still seperated.

As far as keeping some, there's no way his clothes could pass for girls even with ribbons and lace. His clothes are very boyish! I have several people that are going to come take some off my hands though.
