I enjoy Indian cuisine, especially chicken curry. Some dishes are quite spicy hot. I'd ask the waiter for suggestions. I also love Chinese and Japanese food, but I don't care for Thai.

There is such a vast array of tastes that are considered "Indian". I have truly enjoyed the homecooked food prepared by the loving hands of some of my Indian friends, but have found the dishes served in the two Indian restaurants in my area to be bland and unappealing.

I don't care for curry so I don't patronize East Indian restaurants.

Curry is one of my favorite spices.
I even put it on steamed cabbage. Yummy

I got sick off of curry. Therefore I avoid it but I don't like cajun either. Love some Asian and Mexican

I love it. There is a marked difference between northern Indian food and southern Indian food, though.

The stuff I like is hot - chicken or lamb vindaloo is my favorite. And the naan. LOVE naan.

Enjoy! If you're not into spicy, you'd probably like a chicken tikka masala.

I turned down a month in India because I dislike their food so much. It was going to weeks of scouting in the small villages with a retired doctor who wanted to set up clinics there.

Though I did consider the trip briefly thinking it could possibly be an effective weight-loss program between not eating much food and coming down with some dreaded gastrointestinal bug from the food that I did eat. :-)

I can't eat spicy food any more, but I enjoy a creamy cashew sauce they make that is not spicy.

It's called "korma," and our local Indian restaurant makes a nice chicken dish with that sauce.

I like the naan flat bread too, especially the one with garlic.

I could live on only Indian food, whether it's northern/southern/Balti/any and all. No matter what the menu item, one can ask for the dish to be very very mild or Indian spicy (which is oh so very hot!).

I'm not a huge fan, though, of appetizers - too much chickpea batter on many.

For the beginning, you can't go wrong with a mild Butter Chicken or Chicken Makhani. For the more advanced palate, I'm in agreement with Vindaloos or hotter!

I usually get vegetarian dishes and ask for then to be "Indian spicy"!

For cooking at home, Madhur Jaffrey's cookbooks are great.

Haven't tried it, but curry is my favorite flavor. The spice is a mixture of spices. I've been tempted to make my own, but the store-bought is pretty darned good.

It's ok. I do love curry but it's Japanese curry.

Not my favorite.

Any kind of Indian- any time! And the hotter, the better! :)

We eat it a couple of times a week as my dh is Indian, but home-cooked Indian food is quite different from restaurant food. The American curry powder found in grocery stores is a British or American invention; curry is any wet dish with gravy and each has its own spices.

I made Chiicken Biryani once and it was good but I need to spice it up a bit more next time.

I bought a bottle of Garam Masala spice and it's really good. I like it on vegetables and oven roasted potatoes.

I'm wanting to try chicken curries etc.

Most ethnic places will help you order if you are unfamiliar with their cuisine.

We love Indian food. In Australia Indian restaurants are about as common as Chinese restaurants, and most households would make a curry of some sort reasonably regularly.

I love Indian food too. The waiters are very good about cooling it down and usually ask. I can't eat it too spicy either as it loses its flavor in my opinion.

Just had butter chicken for dinner! Not at/from a restaurant -- it's a frozen dinner from Wegmans grocery store (based in upstate New York but spreading slowly).

Love this version; Trader Joe's has one, too, as well as some other types.

Chicken tikka masala, as chloecat said, is pretty mild, compared with other dishes.

Just ask the waiters to gauge any dish on a "hot" scale for you (like 1-5, 5 being the hottest), and ask whether it's dry or in a sauce (in case you're not a 'sauce' person. Chicken tikka masala and butter chicken are in sauces.)

Some of the battered vegetable/potato appetizers --somosas, for instance -- can be quite spicy.

Of course, a good way to test several dishes is to see if the new restaurant has a lunchtime or weekend buffet.

I LOVE Indian food! You can order it spicy or not, they often ask you how many "stars" of spice you want. I order pretty non-spicy.

My favorite Indian dish is called Aloo-Matter Paneer. Paneer is a really good cubed white cheese. Aloo Matter Paneer is peas, potatoes, and cheese served in a thick, creamy sauce. It is really good.

Most Indian restaurants I've been to serve you rice, and then your dish is usually served separately in a dish (often over a warmer), that you spoon over top of your rice. Definitely order Naan Bread with it. Garlic Naan is my favorite.

I prefer the creamy dishes over the tomato based. I like the lentil dishes too.

Don't worry about it being too spicy because they will ask you how spicy you want it. If they don't, tell them on a scale from 1 - 5. It's really good and very healthy, also.
Does your new place have a lunch buffet? If so, that might be a good place to taste a lot of the different foods.

I've been told "Curry" is really a British/Aamerican food. If you buy curry powder in a grocery store, it's a blend of many spices. In the "international" food aisle, I find various jars of curry sauce. I've tried many of them,and like most.Some have a tomato base, some have garlic,etc. They are good over a simple dish of chicken over rice. I buy chicken thighs, remove the bones, cook the chicken in the jarred sauce. oil rice, mix it all together. It's hot, serve with lots of sweetened ice tea. Good way to experience Indian food at home. And you will love the Naan bread. Very plain (no need for butter or sauce. )

I love Indian food and I don't like very spicy food. I happen to like curry but there is plenty of Indian food that doesn't have curry.

Lots of Indian restaurants have a buffet, especially at lunch. If there is a buffet I suggest you start there, it's a good chance to try many different foods. Generally the spicy dishes are labeled so easy to avoid if you don't like too much spicy.

Yes...Yes...Yes....I love it. I used to mix my own spices when we lived in MA and I had the ingredients readily available. Now it isn't as easy here in TX...If I just want a curry powder taste and don't want the trouble of cooking all the spices, I use a mix called Boldt's.......It come in varying degrees of spicyness.

Jennmonkey, that sounds like what I buy sometimes to take to work, the paneer (I'll have to actually look next time I get one). It's a vegetarian frozen food and really good. The first time I ate it, I thought it had chunks of tofu but it was cheese.

So, Glenda, did you ever go try it? We went to an Indian restaurant early in the summer. I had the Masala, with pork. It was just ok. I didn't care for the bread, but the kids liked it. Alex had been before with his friends and really liked it.

I have trouble eating spicy (hot) food. I love the taste of chicken tikka masala but even when I order it mild it's a little too hot for me. I love naan and tandoori chicken.
