About Vernon...and thanks to Steph and Jenni

A few days ago, I received a package in the mail. In it was a little stone marker for Vernon's grave, sent by Steph and Jenni. I was so touched! It is just perfect! It made me cry, which was probably a good thing. I had been having a bad day, and the thoughtfulness of Steph and Jenni completely brightened my day.

The day I lost Vernon, I had gone to a nursery with a friend and fellow rehabber, Tanya, to buy a banana called 'Siam Ruby'. Because I have so many creatures here that dig, I decided to pot it in a big pot until at least next year. I didn't want anything digging up Vernon's little body either, so I put him in the pot, near the bottom. The armadillos and raccoons dig, and I also have a puppy. I put it in kind of an out of the way spot, but still where I can easily take care of it in the winter time.

This part of my garden, I call "The garden of the Innocents"

which, I confess, I stole the idea from a cemetary...but it is where I bury all of my animals. I don't put markers on every one, because I put plants so thick, but I am going to go to a place that sells a lot of nice statuary, and look for one that depicts several animals. I recently put up an arbor at the entrance and have a white rose I am training to

cover it.

And, rest in peace, little Vernon. Mama loves you.

What a beautiful place for Vernon!
I still get all choked up when I think about him!
We just thought because he was such a special little creature he needed a special marker.

I'd put medium and small (or M and S) in the title and then put the actual measurements in the listing. I'd measure the width too (around the belly) and not just the length. I'd put the type of dog it would fit in the title too (Yorkie, Maltese etc.). Sometimes the owners of a specific breed are looking for other things and will find your listing by accident and that could mean a sale for you.

Ah thank you guys!! I just hope that this works for Steph and she doesn't have to go through all this IVF stuff ever again. It has been such a learning experience for us all. Before she started all this I had no idea at all what IVF treatment was really like. She has shared a lot of this with you but there is so much more that she has gone through. Her determination and her focus has never wavered. She is a very strong young lady and I can't begin to say how much I admire her. After all the losses and disappointments she has suffered, she deserves to have a normal, problem free pregnancy. It matters not whether it is a boy or a girl. A healthy baby and mom is all we want. A little girl would be fun and don't you just know I would love all the 'fluff' but Grant would love having a brother. This mornings test will be the beginning, and follow up tests will more indicate how things are going. Thanks to those of you here that care about her and have supported her. Your kind thoughts and prayers mean alot to us all.

What a fitting tribute to little Vernon. That is just so perfect. Marilyn, your Garden of the Innocents is lush and beautiful. I know how deeply you care for all the animals. Jenni & Steph, such a thoughtful and caring gesture. Makes me proud to be a KTer. Now, where's the Kleenex? *sniff*

Now i need the kleenex, too.

My 15 year old yellow kitty died on Christmas last year. He is in a pet cemetery because I don't know how much longer I'll live here, but he has a little marker and it says:

Rest in Peace, Sweet Joab, Mama Loves You.

Marilyn, your Garden of the Innocents is beautiful! What a wonderful resting place for little Vernon. We all got so attached to him in his short little life.

Jenni and Steph are equally sweet, doesn't surprise me they did that. They are always thinking of other people.
I think they were right on in their thinking he deserved something special.

That was the nicest thing for them to do. What good friends they are. Your garden of innocents is wonderful, and you are a special person to take on all you do. I've done a lot for animals all my life , both domestic pets and wildlife but probably only 1/100th of all you do. There should be more people on this earth like you.

What a wonderful thing for you to do. I don't know Marilyn from this forum but have known her for years and she emailed me this link and I just had to post to thank you. I know her heart breaks when she loses any animal but Vernon was one of her extra special babies. Thank you.
