Even when I worked nights, I never watched the late news. Okay, I rarely watch TV for any reason. I hate those commercial breaks which consume more time than the proffered show. I use the radio for summaries and 'breaking news', the newspaper for in-depth, and nowadays the 'net has news, videos, commentaries and articles available 24/7. To be honest, I'm one of the ones who is more often not reading the newspaper, but instead using it for other paperly pursuits such as wrapping the scraps to put into the compost pile. I have less need for the 11 o'clock news than ever.

Invest in a large jar of Sluggo :-) It may not eliminate the problem but will certainly help. Will need to be reapplied freqently, especially if we continue to receive a lot of rain. Always thought slugs were the big issue around here until I moved to a semirural and pretty wooded location and determined it was really snails that were the serious pests. They get places no slugs can get to easily and they can eat everything, including more heavily textured evergreen foliage that most slugs leave alone. Very rewarding to squash them, however, if a bit messy :-)

I love that story about the teen and the black, rotary dial desk phone. ... Someone tells you that, in case you break a hip, or for other reason fall over and can't get up, having a land-line phone on the wall might as well be on another planet. Better have one (or two) hooked to a jack in the wall, sitting on a desk, etc., so you can pull it down by pulling the cord. ____________________________ Most folks didn't have two phone lines, and now many folks are taking out their land-lines ... ... but how are they going to find their cell ... ... if they can't use the land line to call it to locate it? ole joyful ... looking forward to getting eddicated, here
