The YALE Appliance outlet downstairs.(Just off 93 in Boston/Dorchester.) Great, mostly high-end stuff. And if it's got problems, even though it's a floor model or return or w/ev, Yale will do the repairs under warranty. They are awesome over there.

I have bought many appliances at the Sears Outlet stores. I always choose the ones labeled NEW meaning it was opened or cosmetically damaged. My Jenn Air french door fridge was listed at $1600 due to a tiny black mark on the top of the door. It retailed for $3200. Within 2 weeks of getting it home, my kids scratched it anyhow so the black mark is barely noticable. I think it is a great place to get refrigerators, washers, dryers and basic ranges. They have probably 150 each of refrigerators and washing machines at any time. They tend to only have a dozen dishwashers. Occasionally you may luck out and get a pro style appliance there too like my sister did. I have in the past been impressed with Sears warranty policies however, it has been a few years since I have bought any appliances so things may have changed. You have to go often if you are looking for a particular model. If you are looking for a particular item, the salespeople may take your name and call you if one comes in. As far as warranties go...it is just like buying it at Sears. If you don't want to deal with a broken machine, just make sure you buy one that was not used. The labels are very informative and tell you the history of the appliance. Good luck

Thanks for the help! I couldn't fix a gas dryer, so I appreciate everyone's input. I ended up going to a local appliance store. They had a brand new (never used- never left the store) scratch and dent that had just a small dent on the side that wasn't even scratched. It was a little more than the Sears dryer, but it wasn't a return and it was in perfect shape otherwise and obviously never used. Many of the returned dryers Sears had were obviously used- lint in the filter, and one was really messed up on the inside. (paint discoloration, big wad of dog hair between the drum and dryer, some weird goop inside, etc) They were also pretty battered. Maybe the Sears delivery truck crashed?

Check it. Check every corner before the delivery guys leave. We took early delivery and acquired appliances over time, as I found things on sale. I explained to my DH the importance of thoroughly checking each item, all of each item. He knew I was particularly concerned because I got very good "deals" and I wanted to make sure things were not damaged if they were not supposed to be "ding and dent." I took delivery on everything, except the dw. DH took delivery of the dw. Me, "Did you check the entire Dw? DH,"Yes." Me, "Are you sure you unpacked and really checked the dw?" DH, "yes! Honey you are being ridiculous. I checked it; it's fine." 2 months later. I unpacked the dw. Big ol' dent in the back. Luckily for DH, and our marriage, the dw works fine....
