No Sound On YouTube Videos....Why?

It's not my computer/speakers....I have sound! The YouTube videos do play...I just can't here them on Face Book nor YouTube! What's up with that? Using Vista and Firefox.

Yes...speakers are on. I can hear everything EXCEPT YouTube Videos.

Hi, grandms Yeah, since my main interest is in YouTube vids at this point, I was hoping to avoid downloading a whole separate program for this. It seems that not all YT videos are html5, so I may start to play one in Opera (with the WebM Plus extension) and it will not play correctly. By the same token, when I open a video in FF or Comodo [Chrome] and right-click the video area, it will often give menu options for Adobe Flash Player. I suppose at this point it's a matter of waiting for YT to get everything switched over to html5 format. (Can they 'retrofit' videos for that, or will videos already made not be upgraded ?) At that time I imagine YT users won't need the Adobe player any longer and will only have YT's own player ?? Oh, well. I'll keep playing around with this.... (It's a slow start to the new year.) :-)

Thanks, Cathy! Good idea to store them in the freezer - I have room for that. Since I go through a large quantity of grits, I could order a large amount (for my freezer) and then cook them using your method. At least that way I can put my slow cooker to use, since I hardly ever use it. It sounds like a good way to cook grits. ETA: I placed an order for 10# of Pencil Cob Grits, and it seemed a bit expensive at $85.25 (including shipping), and so I hope they will be worth it. It sounds like they will come in one big box, and so I guess I will have to find containers to store them in one pound portions. I might just use Foodsaver bags. I normally keep grits in a large jar (to prevent pantry moths), and I will continue to use that for grits that I defrost. I normally cook grits once a week or so, but I cook enough at one time for two meals, since they reheat nicely.

I have never really got along with screens - I don't watch TV. I have relied on books when I want information or entertainment. Back when I was a new gardener, I subscribed to a couple of magazines but quickly concluded that there was always an agenda (usually to sell stuff) and I was even more irritated by the glossy perfection of featured gardens (which I certainly didn't recognise)...but mostly, the tedious predictability of continually catering to garden novices. I do find the internet has value but in general, there is an emphasis on branding, personalities, aspirational BS. I find myself looking at short videos such as 'how to light a Tilley lamp', 'how to do German short rows', 'how to sharpen a chainsaw' but have had very little compulsion to watch TV gardening. Whilst Mr.primula was waiting for a sports channel, one of those garden makeover programmes was playing in the background.. ('Love your garden', I think) .I was dismayed and offended by the whole concept - spend hundreds (thousands) of £££ to make a garden in 24 hours. Rubbish. Not gardening, just shopping. Presided over by grinning nitwits. There is nothing of interest to me. And, afaics, this is amplified on YouTube and subscription social media. So, apart from other gardeners, books (especially plant monographs) are still my main source of information... but again, you have to be prepared to trawl through a lot of utter rubbish but these are usually clearly signalled: written (ahem) by celebrities, heavy on illustration, light on text,

there are various places that have volume controls and mute controls on the actual video there is a speaker icon that you can slide up and down and mute and also in the bottom right corner of your computer is your volume control for your pc it is a little speaker icon if you click on it you can get into the settings for it and check that all sliders are all the way up and nothing is muted there are several sliders to check. Sometimes the mute gets turned on by accident.

do you have sound on other things besides just video, can you play music on it? can you hear anything? it could be only video related or it could be overall volume.
Try different things to see if you are hearing sound at all.

that site has a lot of free radio stations you can just click on play and it should open up and play for you do any of those work?

do you know what media player you are using on your computer? I personally prefer VLC player which is free and plays most all formats.
VLC there you can find the vlc installer for windows.

Try installing vlc it is quick and easy it doesn't hurt to have more than one and if it doesn't help just go to control panel and remove it if you want.
Some videos are in different formats and utilize different codecs you have to have a player that can handle all formats, not all do, that is why vlc is so popular and used by thousands of people over other players, it can handle pretty much anything you throw at it. And it's very safe and reputable.

Good job I know it is confusing when they have a separate speaker control besides the main one on the pc. That's why I always mention that first. That was an easy one.
