Room-a-day -- Kitchens today!

Way... Way... back when we first saw this house and decided it was for us --- It was the kitchen that I fell in LOVE with. These pictures make it look smaller than it is. Yes, there is a house next door, but I actually have a nice view down the street. The kitchen window faces East, so I get the morning sun.

{{!gwi}}

The other side of the room. The pantry is real big. LOVE IT!

{{!gwi}}

My favorite part of the house "the dishwasher!" LOL I never thought I would like it so much!

The view out the front window from the kitchen, looking through the dinning area

Let's have a tour of your kitchen too.

Tomorrow will be Dinning rooms/area.

Sure hope you don't get many "interesting" days. What a mess! Hope they get things back to normal soon. But it's great that you were able to feed the starving masses!!

Congratulations, lady! Yes, you will see improvement. Been using the machines for a year. I had wanted to strengthen my back, before a big trip, last summer. Because of that, my ability to keep up with the parties I was traveling with was significantly improved. And I have continued for the year, as it's just now a part of my lifestyle! Keep it up! You will be so proud of yourself and your body will thank you :o)

Sorry to hear that your furnace died. They always do that when you need them the most. What you need is a warm little lap dog to keep you toasty warm. Mine does that even when I have the heat on. But do stay under a blanket and drinks lots of hot beverages. You don't want to catch a chill. That happened to me one winter while DH was away on a business trip. I kept the fire going in the fireplace for 2 days. I didn't want to call a repair guy because DH does all the repairs and most outfits charge an arm and a leg. It turned out to need a new ignition switch which only cost a couple of bucks at the time. You can guess how much a pro would have charged. Clare

My work area is deliberately compact so that I always have support near enough to latch onto should I need it. I can slide heavy things around the counters to where I need them without lifting.

I love kitchens. Both of yours are very nice.

Wow! You all have such giant kitchens. I am so jealous!

The original kitchen went back to 1971 when the house was built. We moved here in 1986 and I lived with a kitchen I hated for 20 years before we remodeled it. We did all the work ourselves except for the countertops.

Here's a small one for you Kitty!
I hated it before the remodel.

After seems cozy rather than cramped!

All your kitchens are gorgeous...Right now, mine is so cluttered and messed up, it will take me a month to get it straightened out....Love the pictures, can't wait to see the next room.....

That farmhouse sink makes me drool...I want one so bad!

Umm maybe I'll post pictures later although my kitchen is full of clutter from the unpacking.

    I love all these kitchens!!

Here is mine. I didn't really want to post a picture with me in it... but it was easier than taking a new picture.

I'm ready to paint the cabinets and get new countertops.. but DH still needs some convincing.

I had a white kitchen in my other house (my other life, LOL) and wanted the same when we built this house. I also went with the same countertops. Nothing expensive or fancy but I love my kitchen. As you can see from the pics it's an eat-in kitchen, we only use the dining room when we have company.

I love all these kitchens!! Judy, we have similar pendant lamps. And the same KitchenAid mixer. Lydia, you're very photogenic! And you look like one of my cousins. Maybe we're related.

My kitchen is definitely not huge. It was completely gutted and remodeled five years ago. It was so wretched before that I didn't even take "before" pix.

This was taken when my DS and DIL lived with me. When they moved out they took their toaster oven and a number of other things that are on the countertops and butcherblock. I have a pic showing completely uncluttered counters, but that is soooo unrealistic! Also, I've since gotten rid of the ugly green trash container and now have a nice wooden one. The light casts a yellow color onto the cabinet in this picture. The butcher block is old, BTW. A real butcher block.

And before we painted it yellow...

I'm stewing a chicken right now. LOL!

Great kitchens, everyone! It's my favorite room in the house, so here's mine...I re-laminated the countertops myself 3+ years ago in my favorite color.
Pssst, clare, is that a Wolf peering out of your photo? If it is, you are a lucky gal ;o)

I want the window over mrsmarv's sink!!! I have kicked myself a million times for not doing that when we built!

Ours is an open floor plan with kitchen, dining, and living all in one big room. All the seating shown (5 at the bar, 8 at the table), and there is yet another table behind my softa where DH and I eat. :-)

Boy, what nice kitchens! Mine is so run down, and so messy that if I sent a picture, you'd all feel sorry for me, so I won't subject you to that.

Your kitchens are all just wonderful!!

Well, Judy, great idea. Now I am going in the kitchen and taking a few pictures without straightening up any at all. LOL

    mrsmarv I LOVE your view!

oh my gosh... I should have dusted the TV off!

in my defense, I want to say, Jerry has several things sitting out, he wants to take with him in the morning, for he gym, and to work. LOL, but really, I have been planting and unpacking and not keeping a nice kitchen.

    Moni
PS, no I don't like the wall paper, but haven't had time to take it off before moving in.

I'm laughing at my own post now. When I said a table behind the sofa, I should have said "in the second set of pictures."

I just realized I'd rearranged furniture after that family gathering and before I took the DR pics.
    :-)

Beautiful, beautiful kitchens everyone. I've enjoyed seeing the different styles and decor. Bunglogrl, I want your sink. I just love it!!
Here's mine. This was taken a couple of years ago. Nothing much has changed. I put some of those tin looking blocks behind the stove and sink. Other than that, it's the same.

Here's the west side of the kitchen. The open door is the laundry room and the door that goes out to the garage.

    Here's the east side

Here's one from the laundry room ( on the north side ) looking toward the dining area.

mscsippy ~ I can tell you're a fowl lover, too ;o) I don't know how my collection started but it certainly has taken off LOL.

mscsippy, I love what you've since done behind your stove! Those pics you posted recently are such an endorsement for that product! And I love the arch into your dining area.

Is the piece with the books on it freestanding or built-in?

The piece with the books on it is actually a buffet and hutch I purchased when I had a house with a dining room. This house was listed as having a dining room, but it is really what I consider an eat in kitchen. Whatever it is there's a place to put a table. I gave my real dining room table to my dd. There was this little inset in the kitchen where some people who bought this style house chose to have more cabinet and counter space added, but I saw it as an ideal place for my buffet and hutch.

Mine's very small, wish I had more counterspace and a few more cabinets, old pictures but about the same looking:

I love all of your kitchens! I'm so jealous! There's no way I would post pics of mine. Mrsmarv, I sent you a message through your mypage.
Thanks for sharing your pictures everyone!

Ok, I'm going to post mine now even though it's pretty sad compared to all of yours. We've just moved into this house and haven't done anything with the kitchen yet.

I actually really like it. It has a lot of cupboards and counter space. This is it the day we moved in, It's much messier and cluttered now. :)

Here's my kitchen. Need to paint that white table against the wall. What color would you suggest?
    Leslie/KS

Leslie, I don't think I would paint that table. It would really stand out if it was in color.

Unless, you want it to stand out.

    Moni

PS, I really like your house, and wouldn't change anything. :)

RED! I saw those red tomatoes on your counter and thought red would be good, but then I saw your lampshade has red in it, too!

Do you have any other red accents?

I'm torn between the two suggestions. I could leave the table white and find a small colored tablecloth for it. Or, I could paint it a warm red color and leave the light tablecloth on it.
okwriter: I do have some red/rust in the living room and could bring it into the kitchen. There are red apples on the phone shelf in the corner. I like fruit pictures because it gives you many colors to work with.
moni: You were just here in July so I value your opinion. Thanks for the compliment and please come again!

Oh, you'll have beautiful kitchens. okwriter, I love your house. Angela, your kitchen layout is a lot like mine.

Oh I love kitchens. The heart of the home. These are great!

I don't have any really new pics but this was after we remodeled and took down the old wallpaper. We finally replaced our old appliances last year and got all black.

This is looking in from the dining room. Not a very clear picture but you can sort of see the layout. The cooktop is in the center island.

I have a SERIOUS case of Kitchen Envy...everyone of ya'lls kitchens are beyond beautiful...so

I'll show you my basement DOGGIE KITCHEN...yeppers...no cabinets...no sinks...but all good doggies deserve their own kitchen...this is before I painted it last month

notice all the dog food...dog bowls...you thought I was just joking didn't cha?

    here's after I painted it...

I'd love at least a sink to wash up dog bowls in and pour dog water from...maybe someday! Thanks for the BAGHOLDER Flamingo...it looks great in the newly painted kitchen!

Here's my real kitchen...from the realtors ad...notice the nice clean countertops...just what the realtors tell you to do...take everything off the countertops

I got a wild hair while the menfolk were outta town last summer...I couldn't stand the plain walls...so here's what I came up with until I can GUT THE ENTIRE KITCHEN! I hope to put the old sink and a few of the cabinets in the basement kitchen and start fresh in the main kitchen!

    Big Bump!!! LOL

There's no way I'm showing you my kitchen as it is now...but here's the virtual plan the cabinet man, Dan, is working on.

    South / Sink wall

From left to right, on bottom, there's a 30" wide pantry cabinet; 30" base drawer cabinet; 18" garbage pullout, 39" sink base, dishwasher, and 36"x36" Lazy Susan cabinet.

The uppers include an 18" deep microwave cabinet and a regular 12" deep dish cabinet to the left of the sink and two 27" wide dish cabinets to the right.

    Overhead view...

The desk area under the west sink has now been replaced with a standard base cabinet. The island will probably have one 30" cabinet and one 18" pullout (for Harry food).
