I am in awe of your talent and skill Flamey! And the fabric choices are so perfect for this quilt. I'm partial to blues/lilacs/lavender colors and the green just makes it pop!! Did you do the quilting (in those wonderful wavy lines) on a long arm or your sewing machine? I'm going to do my first stippling today on a practice block and I'm so nervous. ~LOL~

Yes, Jamie- there are lots of things I can't do. I can't knit or crochet, for starters. Don't do any needlefelting, either. Or scrapbooking. Mostly I like to sew or paint.

Susan, I quilted this on my regular machine using the walking foot, no special stitches or anything, just long curved lines. And stippling isn't that hard, just practice a little first and get your tension right. Keep checking the underside!

And I don't NEED a lot of quilts, I just like learning how to make the tops, I guess. Bargello? Sounds scary, I did a needlepoint bargello pillow once. Loved it, too. Maybe I'll make a bargello placemat. lol

I looked at your link and I'm not sure I could handle that quilt as a beginner. Looks complicated to me.

It's truly beautiful. Love the butterflies and the flowered material (hydrangeas)? It takes a lot of talent just to pick the colors and materials for something like that. I bet your house is gorgeous!

Oh, but MaryAnn, he's going to walk us thru each and every stitch and step, strip by strip. When you break it down like that, it's not hard! And you wouldn't have to make a big quilt, you could do a wallhanging size or a baby quilt or even just a few squares to make potholders out of. At least it would get you started. I think you can do this, I know you can sew!

Patti, I have a pretty ordinary house, decorated simply around a man who fears color on his walls. lol So I make my little mark where and when I can. And picking out the fabrics for this quilt probably took me 3 days! I auditioned a hundred of 'em, probably and came up with these 6 and then enough others to make a scrappier version which was going to be another zz, but I changed it around to this-

It's next on my list of things to do.....

Terri- the hydrangea and butterfly and the pale lavender dot in the other one are all by Holly Holderman for Lakehouse. It comes in many colors, been out a while now and getting a little hard to find. Try Etsy or Ebay or go to quiltshops.com and do a search. And you are so smart- of COURSE NP's in a photo, she's the reason I'm charging camera batteries all the time! lol

Yes, Minnie, I was in the quilt along, too. I go by "FlossieBlossoms" on Flickr. First they did a rail fence quilt, then a zigzag, next up is the Wonky block.

MaryAnn- check this link- she only used 3 fabrics and it's stunning. Honestly, I don't know how much help John will offer in the fabric choosing dept but I know he'll show us how to make 3 different types of wonky blocks and you'll be able to see what fabrics he uses and what the others use. I'm going to make mine out of Heather Ross's "Mendocino" line of fabric, I have a bunch of her stuff already and I picked up some coordinating FQ's to go with what I have.

Part of the fun of a wonky block is that you're free to use just about anything, I think, depending on what you hope to get in the end. Also, you can go to Flickr and search for "wonky block" and see hundreds!

Oh that is just beautiful Flamey. I love hydrangeas too. And butterflys, and love the colors you have together. My sister quilts too, but I don't have the 'talent' gene like her and my mom.

I like the idea of having something so pretty on the bed. The Snooze and Shake. They snooze, you shake it.

Oh, gosh. You guys really are too nice. And you know what? I always swore that I would never be a quilter. I made one a long time ago after watching a show on how to make a log cabin quilt in a day. That should have been my first clue. rofl It was SO incredibly ugly, I ought to take a photo of it and show you how much I've "grown". The fabrics are ugly, the strips are huge, the workmanship is fair to lousy and even the dogs don't like it much. We use it to protect the seat in the car on trips to the vet's, or to pad furniture during moving, etc. Anyway, after that one, I decided I was NOT ever going to be a quilter. I didn't enjoy making it, I like a more instant gratification like I get with a purse or wallet or something little.

The quilts I've been making take more like a couple of weeks to make and are machine quilted, which a lot of "real" quilters would not consider to be "real" quilting. That's about as "instant" as you can get with quilting, but I'm having fun and doing it this way- simple quilts, big pieces, machine quilting- it has opened this up for me as a new craft/hobby.
