Yard sales this week

Got off to a bad start. Couldn't find the first sale. Last week I got there and there was a sign outside the development but no yard sale. My fault - it was listed in the paper as Friday only. Oh well. This week there was a sale on the same road and it was definitely listed for Fri and Sat but there was no sign outside the development and no sale this week. I'm blacklisting that road!

But after that, not a bad day. I only spent $20.10 for

3 large glass jars

2 small pamphlet-style cookbooks

2 Elmo toys

Push Trike

Twister

Elmo steering wheel

Elmo car

Pull airplane

Plush beaver

Twister

Tupperware condiment set - $2

Small tupperware container

4 jello molds

Tonka Cool Tools set (for $6- I saw the motorcycle with no tools online for $25)

Animal book

3 kids cups

I wouldn't have bought all those Elmo toys if I wasn't shopping with Dan. I feel a bit obligated to buy the toys he has been playing with while I shop the rest of the sale. I don't think all of them even added up to $2 of what I spent though so worth it if I can keep him happy for a while.

Looks like you got some good deals Paula! I need to go before the season ends and look for baby stuff I guess.

I went Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I got a few books, a book light, some large disposable baking pans, new, 3 tops and I can't remember what all. The books and light were only $.25 each. The pans were ten cents each and the tops were fifty cents each. I also got a microwave bacon tray for $.25 and 3 divided heavy plastic plates for $.25 each. It is rainy today so some were not open. It was a good day. Cheryl got a really nice counter top ice maker for $10.

I had a nice visit with the gal that has the barn sale. Cheryl and I ate a yummy piece of oatmeal cake while there and then she had us take a piece home to Amber.

It was a good shopping weekend.

All of it looks great to me, the little squirrel peeking out on the deck,"She sell seashells" sign & shells around. The blues work so well with the coral & pinks & white. Little guy by pool looks like a sweetie! Grandma doesn't like the attention! She does match beautifully in the pic where she is sitting in the chair, her shirt looks great with the empty blue chair, blues go together well! Yes, Wetumpka is just north of Montgomery. Wish I'd known you were coming! If you get back down this way, let me know, and maybe we can arrange a trade. My daylily gardens will be in full bloom in a few weeks. I'd love to have you visit. :) I've got somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 named cultivars, not to mention the unknown ones, and my own seedlings. Jan

Stoney, happy birthday to your DH! The guy who was working at the store called the door 1950's mediteranian. Which I can see, but it reminds me of old, Medieval German doors. LOL! It's very heavy, solid wood, dark stained. There's a wooden ornamental peice on the inside which is broken off at the top on one side (I don't care), and has a big, heavy door knocker on the outside. The handles remind me of German doors too or older homes. There is a window on top with leaded glass in a diamond pattern. Lauren, I and one friend think it's cool looking, but we are all a little odd. LOL! I'm going to have it restained, either dark again or medium dark...depending on how the wood looks when it's uncovered. Phyllis, I agree, we've had lots of rain here too and my tomato plants are loading but not riping much. Susan, I have to go out and work in the garden still. Only thing I did was pick beans. Patti43, thanks. Sue, I've been picking green beans for the last few days and now have a big bunch and am getting ready to wash, cut and put them in my crockpot with a porkroast. Barbara, glad you had a good time at your school reunion! Susan, I hate cleaning the kids' room...speaking of kids...they just pulled up. Vannie, my dd would want to spend it, Alex might keep it in the bank a little bit. Bettye, thanks. Glenda, how was your birthday? When do you leave on your trip? are you excited? Moni, cleaning blinds? Yuck.

I found 2 good deals today. I got a new bread machine for $5. and a chaise lounge cushion for $3 (she said that was new also)Then she gave me a used Vera Bradly purse too. (its a bit worn)

I went to a large neighborhood sale and ended up only spending $10.00 on a cute white iron vanity for my teenage daughter. It came with a little chair and a mirror and I think after we redo it, it will be a nice make-up center for in her bedroom.

My best buy for today was a Quantaray 100-300mm lens for my Canon Rebel DSLR for $30. It's a fairly new camera for me, and I'd just started dreaming about which lens to ask for, for Christmas ... this one is more powerful than I would have chosen to start with, but for the price I couldn't pass it up. No scratches, nicks, nothing wrong!

Otherwise I found a couple of Uncle Sams that stand about 3-ft tall and hold little flags in their hands ... I like to decorate for Patriotic holidays so they will fit right in.

I stopped at one yard sale this morning but didn't see anything of interest. I went to a plant sale and bought 6 different orchid cactus instead.

My dryer went out today. I just scored a working, 10yo, front loading Maytag Gas dryer for "FREE"!!!!! YIPEEE!!!! I'm picking it up tomorrow or Monday.....

My husband & I usually go garage sailing every Saturday morning "during the season". However, since I was laid up with a backache thus week-end, he went on his own. Fortunately the only thing he bought, at least that I'll ever see (he said something about "tools") , was a barely used Cuisinart wide-mouth toaster for $5.00. Our toaster, after maybe 5 years, gave up the ghost a few days ago so this will be the replacement. (I can remember as a kid when our family toaster broke, my mother sent me down to the neighborhood fix-it man and for maybe 75 cents or a dollar, we wouldn't need a new, or even used, toaster).
