We do. We also have words projected on large screens but we sing a variety of music -- traditional hymns and "praise and worship" songs.

Sad,isn't it? Most churches have allowed the "world" to invade them. The last Church I went to didn't have the projected words on a screen and yes they had hymnals..but I only recognized a few of the songs.:(

Yes, our church is small, around a hundred and there is no large screen anywhere. We sing hymns out of a hymnal.

Our church is large, we still use hymnals.

We still sing hymns, even with the video screen.

We still sing traditional hymns. On Sunday there's two books in the pews-the Mass book and the Hymnal. We still have a choir and organist. As a nice touch, the people at Sunday noon Mass applaude for the choir at the end, after the Recessional hymn is played and sung.

We have a small church family, and we do have the Power Point screens. We also have hymnals in the pews.. so we do sing lots of old fashioned traditional hymns, many of which are projected on Power Point.
I have grown to love both the newer Praise and Worship along with the more traditional hymns.. and to me it doesn't matter as long as we sing praises to our precious Lord. It's not how we view it, but how we receive it into our hearts..JMHO

Yes. All United Methodist churches I have attended use hymnals. Our church also uses a song book. All the old traditional hymns are in the hymnal but it seems we sing ones I am not always familiar with. I have CDs of traditional hymns and like to sing along with those.

We are a small church and don't have a screen. We sing a mixture of praise songs and songs from the Hymnal. I love the praise songs but don't want to totally give up the hymns...

Kitt, I do like some of the praise and worship songs and services and many are so inspirational.
What bothers me the most is I do not go to church to be entertained. I go to worship and hear the message.
So many congregations now have bands...and things to draw more and more attendees.
Hymns are so soothing to me. My favorite is "In The Garden"

I love the old hymns I grew up on, but have come to love some of the newer songs. There's one we've been singing called "O Church, Arise" that I love. We sing more new songs than old and I do wish it was about half and half. All on a screen. Of course, the old ones you grew up on you have memorized over the years and don't need the screen or the hymnal.

i love visiting my dd's church , but the rock and roll christian at ear splitting decibles ruins the service...and my ds2's church does the same thing only they've gotten wise about handing out earplugs...

No projector at my Catholic Church. We sing hymns out of the big hymnbook in the pews. Incidently, I have the Elvis album on which he sings hymns and it is one of my favorite inspirational CDs! I was also just reminded about an album of hymns sung by Andy Griffith that we once owned. . .

I'm the music director and yes, we sing hymns from a hymnbook :^)
If I want to use a 7-11 chorus (as my choir calls them :^), I will make copies and enclose them in the bulletin. I purchase one copy of all of the new hymnbooks that come out as long as they are still Biblical (unfortunately a lot of them are becoming "politically correct" and those are returned for a refund!) I have a CCLI license and can make copies for use in our own congregation. New songs are fun to learn and we have quite varied types of music in our services and in Sunday School. We have even sung a number of songs from an older hymnbook that Ms. Glenda sent to me!! Thanks again Glenda!

I don't go to church, but my mother used to sing hymns all day long, around the house, and I have taken to doing that also.
I not only look just like her....I am becoming her. She'd like that. :) Actually, she was a hard to deal with old woman, and sometimes I think I am a little bit too much like her in that way too, but she had a heart of gold...and she could be very kind and generous, and was to almost everyone.

Our church uses a combination of hymnals and the projected music. Also a combination of hymns and other religious type music. There are times I've really appreciated the projected music (when I forget my glasses) because it is easy to see!

Once a few years ago, I went to visit with my DD down in Columbus GA, and went to her semi mega church one Sunday am.
I was appalled at the music played. It sounded more like Acid Rock than Praise Music.. and loud.. omgosh... I actually had to cover my ears. And when the preacher got up to preach.. it was all that "feel good" perverted version of the gospel that is now referred to as "Christless Christianity"..
If I had driven my own vehicle, I would have left right then and there. That ans the pews were nothing more than bleachers and every time someone got up, we were getting jostled around and well, not a place where I saw much worship happening.

So many churches are all about the numbers and how many members they can lure in. I am so happy to go to a church that is about worshiping the Lord and spreading the gospel and having a personal relationship with the Lord.

I have a friend who is a Cantor, what a beautiful voice!

I like traditional. I like a combination of choir specials, individual specials, and hymns sung by the congregation. No "7-11" music for me. If my church should change I would be seeking another church quickly. If the music does not inspire, but annoys, what purpose has it served?

I was not blessed with musical talent, but I love singing hymns, I sing softly and let the talented ones make the melody.

What is 7-11 music?

We use our hymnals every week but use newer songs with words on the screen sometimes, too. I think it's great to use both. There is alot of wonderful more contemporary music with a really good, traditional message..

Also remember that music that annoys you might be meaningful to someone else. The purpose of any music during a church service should not be to entertain, as someone said previously, but to worship.

"7-11 music" refers to singing the same seven words eleven times, i.e., contemporary church music.

We sing both the old hymns and the newer praise and worship songs. The praise songs are projected on a screen the the old songs are from the hymnal. It's pretty much even with the types song. I like the newer stuff if it is not loud. We don't do the "rock" type songs with the drums, guitar etc very often. This is only done as special music from the younger church members. I think this makes them feel special and I'd encourage this if not done weekly.

We still sing some of the old hymns...but I much prefer the newer songs. And no we don't use song books...and I'm glad...I get tired of holding them. Many with bad hands are glad.
