Saw a black fox last night

Last week I was driving home from the hospital late at night and thought I saw a black fox hanging out on the side of the busy two lane highway between the town I work in and the town I live in. So last night I'm driving home late again, and I saw the glint of its eye as I came over a hill. I turned around and slowed way down and flashed my lights on it and sure enough it was a black fox, with a white tip on it's tail. It seemed really curious and followed me along the side of the road for awhile before running off. I'm concerned that it seems to like to hang out along the road, hope it doesn't end up as road pizza. It was very cool to see.

Wow, I never heard of a black fox. Where we live, we see the usual red and brown squirrels, but every so often we see black ones. Once in our back yard I saw a brown one but it's tail was blondish, like it was bleached. I had Hubs come and look. I told him even the squirrels were 'going punk' LOL I only saw it once so I hope it is OK as is your Black Fox.

That's really wonderful to see an animal like that, but I would worry about the street as well. Sometimes I honk at animals near the street to try to scare them. What a shame if he got hit.

Be sure to read reviews before purchasing, and try to get an infra-red. The Non-typical Cuddeback Capture worked great for awhile, but eventually the local critters grew tired of going blind from the flash and began avoiding the area. I moved the camera and caught some of my former victims by surprise the first night but they wised up even further and with this latest camera relocation; I've had zip. As for that suspected jaguar thing, I just don't know what to think. I keep finding scratched up places on the ground-just out of camera range. I had read that researchers in Mexico use skunk glands and Calvin Klein's Obsession to lure suspicious jaguars close enough to their hidden cameras for photos. So, I bought some Obsession and sprayed it on the ground in front of the camera two days ago. Today, near my camera, but off to the side, I found another scrape and there was that same skunky, rank, salty smell I'd smelled before near the scratch marks by the pond several days ago. No photo of course. The other animals stayed away as well, I noticed. There's probably a twitter about me out there: "Danger: bright flash. Avoid plastic boxes" 3-9-09, Picazo Farm logging road, possible ground scrape From 2-24-09, Tracks and scat Unless I actually get a photo I can't say for sure what's leaving the tracks and scrapes. I sent some of the track photos to several big cat "experts" but only two answered, giving vague, non-commital answers that seemed to indicate they were as mystified as I was.

I found this post by accident and couldn't stop laughing. What a relief to know that I am not the only member of the "wrong car club". I'm not even the only member of the "loading groceries in the wrong car" club, LOL. My husband is always pleading with me to please be more aware of my surroundings. My daughter and I loaded a weeks worth of groceries in someone else's car one time. I got into the drivers side and she got into the passenger seat and buckled up. We were both into our conversation so much we didn't notice someone elses fast food bags and jumper cables in "our" car. It hit us both at the same time ...mid sentence. We grabbed our groceries as quick as possible and ran.Unfortunately, in our hurry, we left our toilet paper in the back seat of the car. I've always wondered what the real owner of the car must have thought when he found an unopened package of toilet paper in his back seat.

I saw it only last night (my DVR can't tell that "Amazing Race" is running into "TGW" time.) 2 CBS shows, 2 "I can't believe it" reactions from me... First "Person of Interest," now this. Well, you can't say there isn't any drama on TV nowadays! (I have to admit it, tho -- I wish Kalinda was the one instead. I loved the sparks of the "what ifs" between Alicia and Will.) PS: How does just 1 shoe come off a victim? Even if the other lawyer pulled him out of the way, wouldn't both come off?

It wasn't on here in Canada. Did flip throught but not nothing. I don't want to watch it anyways. Don't feel its right seeing an unbalanced mom getting tons of money for doing something she shouldn't be doing. Those kids, all of them need loving caring homes with balanced parents who can care for them. Yes, the parents have done too much to make her that way. And as for Jon and Kate, I used to like watching their show but as time went on, got tired of the screaming from Kate. Seeing Jon miserable and unhappy and harrassed. Seeing the kids being hauled around, made to wear clothes for show when going out somewhere. And now being a single parent, its all talk about her and what she must do for her kids and will and blah, blah, again all about Kate. Its the kids I feel sorry for in both families. And why they continue on Jon and Kate show is beyond me. People do not watch to watch those two. And the show are ones they did way back, like the kitchen being redone, the cupboards it said it was January 2009. And I read on yahoo news that Kate went after Jon for the babysitter he chose. Can you believe that these kids have all kinds of different babysitters,etc. looking after them. parents bouncing back and forth and Jon locking the gates on their mom so she couldn't get in after the baby sitter. I go unreal, who wants to watch their show? Its not about the kids anymore, its about Kate and Jon and which one is telling the truth and who said what and on and on. I don't like Octomom at all and I don't want to see it at all.

I hope he didn't get hit! Or doesn't.... What a great treat to see any fox, let alone a black one, which has to be extremely rare!

thought we had a fox duck hunting one day then realized it was a coyote!

it's always somethng to see wild animals in strange places...like the deer who was trying to cross 8 mile road (like in the rapper song) near us...it was about 6 in the am, so no traffic to speak of...

I looked it up to find out more about them as I have never even heard of one and they are very rare ! It must have been beautiful and how neat that you got to see it, more than once !
Its so neat to "see" something unusual, takes your breath away. A few weeks ago I went out to feed the horses as dusk and there was a Bob Cat just sitting there, on our road, looking at me ! I know we have them, but had never seen one in all the years we have lived here.

I hope your Black Fox stays safe !

Very cool. We have grey foxes here, but they are rare. I've seen one on this place a couple of times.

When I googled it to see it there even was such a thing as a black fox, the picture that comes up looks very similar to the one I saw except his tail was not as bushy and the white tip is much smaller. But the two look very similar. Maybe I should call the DNR and see if they can capture it and release it away from the road. Like I said, I saw it along the same stretch of highway a couple of nights apart. It seemed more curious than scared, too, which is not very fox-like.
