Tiny Request for Prayers/Good Thoughts

I'm a little embarassed asking for prayers for this. My daughter 21 YO Vicki is having 2 teeth pulled today. She called me last week when she had a terrible toothache. She got to our dentist and got prescriptions for painkillers and antibiotics and made an appointment with the oral surgeon. Today's the day she's going in (ten a.m.) . They told her she'll need general anesthesia. Her boyfriend (not me, wah!) will be driving her. I plan to drop by her apartment with some bean soup I made for the hurricane. She's scared because she's never had any anesthesia, only novocaine shots. Please cross your fingers for Vicki. I'll let you know how it went. She's a real trooper-believe it or not, she is going to try to go to work this afternoon. I'm sure thats a no-go.

You got it Jannie, Praying that everything goes well. How lucky she is to have caring BF and Mom. Personally I prefer gen. annith, to novacain.

Sending special thoughts and prayers for her. I hope she decides not to go to work today, and just rests. Don't worry, Mom--she will be fine.

Good news! Rick is going home from the hospital today. I got to speak with him last night, and he sounded great. He said he feels better than he has in a long time, his pain is greatly diminished, and he rarely has to take pain meds. He's been in pain for a while, but the doctor (not the one that discovered the tumor) said it was arthritis and put him on high dose Ibuprophen. He doesn't have to take that now. Yeah! Sally

Greetings, everyone. I thank you all for your good hopes and wishes. What gene did I miss out on? Must have been the gene for sensible driving, I guess ... ... cause I flunked! Didn't look as much as I should have, starting out, didn't drive fast enough on highway and expressway, turning in a double lane from expressway to multi-lane road (with pavement markings, but some obscured), I turned too close - he said that was a dangerous action. I wasn't close to the parallel car ... but - you don't argue. Didn't check blind spot enough, when I was asked to park, didn't put brake on. Didn't come to a complete stop at a "STOP" sign (and I didn't stop behind the white line, either, but he didn't refer to that). There are 343 boxes that are to be dealt with - I don't want to tell you how many have marks in them! I haven't counted ... I guess that I'd say, "yet", as I imagine that I'll be checking it later. Can't read all of his written remarks. So - I now have a temporary learner's licence, meaning that I must have a licensed driver in the seat beside me when I'm on the road. Can't drive on expressway (unless with licensed driving instructor), and can't drive between midnight and 5:00 a.m. I must wait 10 days before I can try it again ... and they have me slated for March 31. My friend, who went with me to the test, said that they gave him a hard time, and he had to make do with a learner's permit for a month and a half - thinks they want to shake us seniors up a bit. That makes me a certified member of the Senior Citizens Second Childhood Club. I got some milk on the way home, have a well-stocked freezer, can make my own bread ... but will have to make arrangements for milk. Or get a bunch of powder ... which, for drinking, makes me go "Uugg-g-h!". Again - I appreciate all of your good thoughts and hopes. Looks like I'll need even more of 'em, in nearly 4 weeks! Good news! It was a cyst. And she was right; this wasn't the same area that they were originally concerned about. I could tell when they were doing the ultrasound & held the wand over the area of the cyst that it was a different spot. Tech asked me to show her specifically where the original area was & did a thorough check (same as the one last week). Doc said the fluid looked normal; no blood. I had a different ultrasound tech today. She also didn't find anything abnormal in the area of original concern. This is now three ultrasound techs two radiologists, an ob/gyn & surgeon who've reviewed the various ultrasounds & the mammogram & found nothing in the original area except very thick tissue. Wow, what a relief! She does want me to have my yearly mammogram this summer & then she will review that & probably follow up with another ultrasound afterward to to keep an eye on things. She asked me to call if I felt any change in the orginal area or had any other problems.

I have read that they both got infected from another worker. If another worker at the field hospital was not noticeably sick, they may not have been wearing protective gear around them. The CDC is apparently investigating. But for those concerned about this, keep in mind the vast differences between America and rural Africa. The CDC and WHO have said that a big problem is that the people there don't trust these medical workers and want to hide their family members who are sick and take them to traditional healers. All the while, they're caring for them and exposing themselves. We also don't wash and prepare the bodies of dead family members ourselves. There is a big difference in sanitation as well, since many areas there don't even have running water and certainly no hand sanitizer. The flu has killed many more people than Ebola. A lot of us have probably had or know someone who has had the flu, and most people just don't think about how deadly it can be because it's something we're used to. I think that even if a traveler were to bring Ebola to the US, we could contain it a lot more rapidly than they have in Africa. That is because of the cultural differences I mentioned above in addition to the fact that we have modern hospitals readily available, not field hospitals without running water. It is just not possible to have the same level of sanitation in a situation like that. We also have plenty of trained medical professionals who are used to treating deadly things like Hepatitis C and HIV.

She's at the dentist now. I just spoke to her. She decided NOT to go to work. I told her to ask for some gauze to take home. I've had wisdom teeth pulled and remember a lot of oozing afterwards, not a lot of pain.

After the affect of the anesthesia wears off she'll be glad she decided not to go to work. She'll just need a little TLC which I'm sure she'll get. ((((DD))))

Glad to hear all went well. We all knew she wasn't going to work, maybe not even tomorrow. It's a miserable thing to have done, but good for her for taking care of her teeth. They have a lot of miles (meals?) to go! LOL! Glad to hear it went well. When I had my wisdom teeth out, my mom brought me two roses, one for each tooth.

No prayer request is tiny. They are all special to all of us. My Big prayer is on its way. Be sure and get all the instructions clarified. Soup is good. Just give her hugs.

Jannie, no request for prayers is tiny, if something is worrying you then friends want to help. I hope she does well!

Well, I hope it's over by now. Sure hope she did okay. Most dentists, and probably all oral surgeons, give their patients strict instructions. She will need to follow them to avoid a dry pocket. Glad you told her to ask for gauze.

She's fine. She and BF dropped by around noon, I gave her the soup, some hugs,my ice bag and ice. She's swollen, cranky (her natural state HAHA) and groggy. But it's over and I saw her and she has a great BF. I'm sure he will give her good care. I did notice a bag of McDonald's food in his car. (Funny, she never eats meat. Does McD sell a veggie burger?) She's going home to her apartment to rest, then back on the treadmill tomorrow-college and work. Thanks to everyone for your prayers and good wishes.
