Taigen, I am not positive, but I think that your pictures are of a Viceroy bf and not a Monarch. It is easy to confuse them. I have 3 books here on butterflies and the pictures fail to show either of them in both open wing and closed wing position. It is rare to catch a Monarch with it's wings spread open, so I decided to search out the differences in the two. Your butterfly has the curved black line crossing the middle of the hind wing that identifies it as a Viceroy.

Just a half mile up our street a car cruise is held on 3 dates during summer. Great location with plenty of parking in shade. Our "Donna Pacer" gets more attention than many of the Muscle cars and street rods. "Donna" is the cute white one in this pic.

Agapanthas "Twister" that I planted yesterday. Now I'm not sure it was a wise thing to do as I'm reading they can grow very wide. Guess I should have read the tag better instead of being swept away by the blooms!
