Dr Phil

I watch his aft, noon show when he has a subject I find interesting. But why does he persist in shoving his wife, Robin, down our throats? Who or what is she? besides his second wife? This past week he had a show where I've decided they "have gone holly wood" They had a whole show on the first B'day of their Grand daughter, then to announce that their son and his Playboy model, wife are expecting again. Then this morning in the paper, I read their other son, Jordon is living with the run-away bride, ex-fiance of Hugh Hefner. My, I wonder where these boys got their taste in women from?

I haven't watched Dr.Phil in years, but I always liked him..mainly because he didn't coddle people and tell them what they wanted to hear! As for who he has on his show, I guess it's his show and he can choose the guests he has.

    Dr. Phil yesterday - anorexia

    Q

I didn't see the show yesterday, but I saw a pic of the girl. I studied anorexia a little in college and it is truly much more then getting them to eat. The mind set is hard to understand, it's a psychological problem. Getting help wouldn't be a relief for most of them-they want to be "left alone with their disease" even if it means dying. Logically, they know that can happen, but not enough to start "wanting" to eat. I wish they wouldn't announce the weight in numbers. I know it's used to see how drastic/tragic the situation is, but I GUARANTEE someone is watching out there and sees it as a challenge and/or motivation. But I do think it's important to show what can happen when people starve themselves to possibly help younger girls who want to lose those 10 lbs by any means necessary!

How did the girl on Dr. Phil fare today?

Didn't say. The mom said at one point that her daughter is home until a court hearing on August 31. Dr. P said he would continue to follow/update the story. She was seen by the phsychiatrists who determined she is "sad," somewhat depressed, naive, and lacks interpersonal skills. The compared her to a 12 y/o in how she relates to other people. They didn't really provide closure to the story yet.

I don't watch, but my guess to your question is .... "a sufficient number of his viewers want this type of show, it's cheap to produce & it lines his pockets."

If you stick to your original premise: "when he has a subject I find interesting", your throat will remain clear. LOL

I always figured his wife drew a HUGE salary for merely sitting there in the audience during each show. (Don't know if she still does that)

I haven't watched his show in years either. I liked certain things about him, but I have to say I never cared much for Robin. Like you, Dotmom, I wondered why he focused so much attention on her. But it's pretty clear this is what she wants. She seems to be an alpha female. :-)

She must have her fans, though.....she's written a slew of books, and somebody must be buying them.

    Dr. Phil's still on !?!

I pick and choose what shows I watch just like other shows. His wife has been there since the beginning of his show. I don't see why she should not be there now. They are truly a team. His first marriage was short and it was many years ago. I don't see the need to even mention it. Many people have been married more then once.

His oldest son is an attorney and doing well. Seems very happy in his marriage. The birthday was over the top but many money people do this these days. Why the need to focus on his children?

Didn't say anything negative about being married more than once, just stated a fact that she us his second wife. As for his kids, I just find it interesting that both go for the same kind of woman. Please remember, this is just my opinion, which in this Country, I'm allowed to have, If your opinion is different than mine....I respect that and your freedom to express it, but I don't think it is necessary to get snarky if you don't agree or like, an opinion different than yours. There is such a thing as RESPECTFUL disagreement.

You post things in a way to rile people up. Your opinions are very strong, and you don't mince your words. Are you surprised when people respond the way they do? I am not saying this to be mean, just wondering.

He was trained by Oprah and his show was in development during his training which took a couple of years. She also said the same of Dr. Oz who has made it his mission to educate people on important health topics. SO different from Dr. Phil who is using every trick to get his family on television and making money. I look at his shows as getting closer to Jerry Springer. He publicly offered help at his home to either Britney or Lindsey. A wholehearted opportunist who doesn't have the personality or depth to teach me anything. Another brain dead show IMHO.

Well, I'm sorry if I riled some people up. Not my my intentions....at all. I was just posting about a subject I had opinions about and what I had read about in today's paper.
I thought we were free to post about these things, and people were free to agree or disagree, add to the subject, or give their opinion. I just don't understand why it has to become personal or nasty.

I agree with Ellie...Can't waste my time watching.....

i don't think of older ds son's dw being hollywood at all...gosh you should have see how hard she and her sisters (triplets) worked on a house building show with their dad..wern't afraid to get dirty, or use tools...

younger ds is into rock, and may be in a band? i do know he started out at college but don't know if he finished or not...

robin is very strict inher beliefs..she and phil both come from alcoholic families...you haver a tendency to close ranks and shut out alot!

missed the bday party..she's a cutie tho' and the other 2 girls had babies about the same time..the 3 cousins look a lot alike!

you really can't avoid hollywood, since they work there and have several ties with local charities..you end up rubbing shoulders with the same crowd..for as big as la is, hollywood celebs are very tight knit...

Susanjf, I like your reasoning especially when you mentioned the similar backgrounds of Dr. Phil and Robin who appears everyday on his show. You explained that with those bad memories and childhoods:

"You have a tendency to close ranks and shut out alot! "

This makes me rethink some comments I made on another post about following in parents footsteps when learning.

Thanks for the insight. I needed that.

I used to watch his show but not so much any more. I agree, it has become rather Jerry Springer-ish. His advice is good common sense most of the time.
Dotmom, I got the same impression you did about Robin but I thought it was just me. He does seem to shove her in front of the camera for no good reason that I can see, imho. I wondered why the camera kept on panning to her time and again to get her facial expressions, responses, etc.?? The thought occurred to me that maybe they were building up to announcing the "Phil and Robin Show" or something.

Not a fan. She and he both talk to their viewers/make suggestions as if we all have the money they do. I think it is very pertinent to say she is a second wife. They hold themselves up as perfect in love and marriage. That makes it VERY pertinent. Gee I wonder what his first family thinks? Were their kids? It is a sad thing when we get so nonchalant about the marriages we failed at and left behind. I cannot fathom why anyone ever watches that show.

Ick... that's the first word I think of when I think of Dr. Phil and Robin. I feel like every time I take a few minutes to watch the show, they are pushing one of the books written by someone in the family wrote. ("This is a great book written by my third cousin, twice removed and you can't live without it.") I also hate at the end when he goes and collects her in the audience and she does a little run-jog to keep up with him. I used to like to watch the Dr. Phil family but even that became a train wreck. I'm probably not a good judge though.... I would rather pick up a book than a remote any day.

What mom24 said, "ICK"!!! I agree with everything you said Mom24....I'd rather pick up a book than a remote too!

I have never understood why people watch this kind of cr*p and make these idiots rich! Don't get it.......

Just my 2 cents worth! I am not a daily watcher, but I do respect the good that he AND Robin do. They display a team effort and I wish that more young people would watch and learn (especially) how to raise children. I know that I have learned a whole bunch and have tried to pass along those tips to my children that are raising my grandchilddren....with fewer mistakes and better results I think. His "common sense" and non-judgemental tone and Robin's (sometimes schocked) expressions, really speak volumes... in my opinion. Her responses usually mirror mine. I do think she is a smart lady and they have raised a remarkable family (mostly before the limelight) and my guess is that they are REALLY enjoying their new found wealth and enjoy sharing with others. Some shows that I have started to watch...I have turned off....just too much Drama.
