My Niece's Viewing.

We had our Niece's viewing yesterday and it was sad but amazing. The number of people that came was unbelievable. The viewing started at 4 and was to end at 8. When we finally left at 10 there were probably 100 people still in line (my sweet brother-in-law came over and told us all to go home). The parking lot was full and people were parked along the streets and such. There was a big room at the back of the church where you came in. The line was inter-looped many times in the room, out the door, down the hall into the back of the sanctuary and up to the front of the church. This was non-stop from the beginning. I can only imagine how exhausted my brother and sister-in-law were. It has been a very long week for all of us.

We have an amazing family. Every one of the aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins were there. Some came from so far away.

I want to thank everyone for their kind words and many prayers. We still don't know the cause of our Sweet Laura's death but they are leaning towards a heat stroke. Hopefully we will know in a couple weeks. Her funeral is at 11 this morning. Again, thank you all so much..

Rest in Peace, sweet Laura. What a beautiful testimony to the kind of person she must have been, when so many came to pay their respects.

Congrats to your niece! I read a bit from her stitchtunes blog. She's a good writer. I wish her good luck with future endeavors. Also, my best to her DH. My DH has also always wanted to write & now that he's retired has taken several fiction writing classes over the past 18 months, or so. DH just recently completed his third short story but hasn't yet considered trying to get published. I've marked this thread for him to take a look at since your neice also writes short stories. Thanks! I found out later that she got overwhelmed after doing this and shed a few tears, and the 2nd-place winner felt bad and offered to give the medal back, which was so sweet. But Chloe said, "No, I didn't earn it - you did." I think all of those girls behaved admirably! (We found out later that a boy in the neighborhood, who is Chloe's age, 10, was erroneously registered for the age 6-8 race. He won, and took the medal with no qualms.:(

Great story Donna! Many years ago I was attending an estate sale and bought and box of goodies that had just one thing in it I wanted. After taking that one thing out, I was rifling through the rest and came across several photos of people in a jewelry store appearing to be from early 1900's The display cases looked oddly familiar to me. My ex DH bought all my jewelry from a place one town over from us. The lady that owns it was fairly advanced in age, and most every day sat in a rocker in the corner of the store to greet everyone that came in. I took those photos over and stood right inside the door staring at my pictures, looking up and down comparing to her display cases. "Sally , honey come here and show me what you are looking at" came from across the room. I kneeled beside her and without a word handed her the photos. I saw a tear start to well up. The people in the photos were her grandparents in their original store and the cases were the ones still being used by her! She tried to give them back to me as they were "mine". We had those photos framed and are still today part of their displays.

Ditto with Dave - this is a first I've heard that "forks" killed a tree. Maybe several dozen that severed ALL the roots? Oh well, bummer. I'd give it a chance to recover if the branches are still green. Recovery takes time, so be patient (6 months - 1 yr). Cori Ann, you can grow ANY Grapefruit in Livermore. you have the warm nights in mid summer that will sweeten the fruit up. And that is the key... where south Texas has those warm nights early on that sweeten the fruit by February March, our cooler spring delays the ripeness until late June/July or even August. Having said that, I just had an Oroblanco for breakfast yesterday morning.. and a Redblush this morning. the OroB has sweetened up and NICE (first decent crop - took 3 years). The OroB doesn't get ripe until late February / March in Danville. The Redblush I had to harvest because there were too many on the branch (looking like a grapevine) pulling it to the ground. The Redblush in years past has not colored up until July so I am waiting to see if this years' crop is the same. An alternate to the Oroblanco is Melogold... I can report back on those over the next week. Costco had dozens of Oroblancos last month... I might check their Concord Garden Center later today and report if I see some. BTW: I scored with a Rio Red on C35 earlier this week in Danville !!!! : - )

The funeral went well, today. They had made a vidoe of her as a mom, wife and herself. It was so wonderful. It sure was her. When they played the part about her being herself everyone in the church stood and they played the song Save a Place For Me. It was just so peaceful. When you saw Laura she always had a smile on her face. I sure will miss her...

It sounds like Laura was a really remarkable young woman and that she was loved by many friends and family. I am so sorry for your loss Susie.

Susie I'm so sorry for your loss and especially your nieces and nephews loss...It must be sooo very hard on all of you...Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers...I know it must have made you and your family feel so good to see how much she was loved...
