I understand. I try not to harm spiders. DS is a strong believer in spider karma. I try very hard not to disturb any spiders when going after webs when cleaning. If I spider is near I won't take it down.

I understand completely. I have "pet" spiders here in the house. One lives at the bottom corner on the hinge side of the front door. I sweep up the remains of less desirable creatures a couple times a week that litter the floor under his little web. He earns his keep.

There WAS a brown recluse in my sink the other day............Wrong place on the wrong day.
I've thrown insects out the door quite a few times. Not that guy. Strange though, I find myself saying, "sorry guy, your going to go", as they perish in the paper towel.

I don't bother most spiders, only the ones that might hurt me in my home. Outside I leave them alone except a HUGE black widow that was on the hose I was picking up last year. The kids water with that hose. If there was any karma with that spider we're going to know it!:)

Sorry you tried to help but the poor spidey ended up dead. I trap them in paper cups and then release them outside. Or maybe they end up as bird food. . .

I don't mind small spiders and usually leave them alone. I figure they eat any ants or other bugs that get into the house. I really like Daddy Longlegs and try to catch them unharmed to put them back outside.

But I don't like any of them in my bath or bed, so they are gone one way or the other. And I have a dog who likes to catch them and eat them. I have been finding Black Widow spiders in my mail box. Sorry, those are toast. I don't want to be sued by the mail person if they got bit plus I would feel bad if they did.

I do understand. If I find them indoors, I try to take them outside and put them in the bushes. Sorry about your accident.

I always try to take them outside and release them. We have big beautiful brown spiders this time of year outside and they make their webs all over the bushes that divide my neighbors and my house. I love to go out and watch them. DH has been finding a lot of black widows in his shop lately. They are history. Other than the black widows, we never kill spiders either.

DH found a big brown recluse in the mud room sink last night.

"Hello, big boy," said DH---just before squishing the spider with a paper towel.

We've seen the damage those spiders can do to humans, and it ain't purty.

What are these brown recluses doing in your sinks?? I thought they were reclusiveÂhence the name. Are you sure they were brown recluses? Are they easy to identify?

I love spiders and never kill them either. I encourage them to live in my panty where I have the dratted pantry moths which they can eat. Spiders are very beneficial.

Okies have been living with brown recluse for years.
We don't like them, but yes---we know what they look like.
And once you see one and know that's what it is, you can spot them from across the room.
In one house we used to live in, I could literally "hunt" them at night with a flashlight and flyswatter.
I knew many of their favorite hiding spots (between the washer/dryer and the wall, along certain baseboards, near the fireplace, etc.).
First one I ever remember seeing was 20+ years ago, and it was in a sink.
We first suspected they somehow come up in the drain, but they likely come from elsewhere and go to the sink looking for water.

We have brown recluse spiders here...one of the bad things about them, they are "roaming" spiders, which means they leave their lairs at night to hunt for prey. So, they might end up anywhere.

But, Alisande, I am a spider lover too. I understand how you feel. I sometimes kill brown recluse spiders that I find in the house...but have a whole colony of black widows that live in my flower pot stacks that I leave alone. When I need a flower pot, I carefully select one, and if a spider lives in it, I get another one. No one here but me most of the time, and I know where they are.
