A Battery of Coastal Defense Guns at the U.S. Navy Maritime Museum at Groton, Conn.

These type of guns were mounted in forts near the mouth of almost all major ports or waterways throughout the East Coast from about 1830 until well after the Civil War.

To give you a size reference, the girl in the picture is my daughter, who is exactly 5ft tall.

oklamoni, I am way to familiar with that "thrilling" scenery just east of Amarillo. Picture me sitting on the side of that highway with our broken down motorcycle in 100+ heat for 2 hours while dh went for help. We were 1300 miles from home.

I was driving west. Tomorrows picture shows a bit of a difference. :)

I am in Albuquerque now. The grand kids are asleep, and the "kids" are planning their morning (since I will have the little kids).

Lori is doing the bike ride in a tri, and Doug is riding his bike to there, to get a good ride in.
