Thank you, :) and yes it got quite cold here today, I'm a bit nervous about the 30 degree low expected tonight. Fortunately it's supposed to be the last really cold night of the spring. I just put my vegetable seeds into the ground, don't want them to get too cold once they come up.

Hi DC and Josh! Thanks! This looks like a classic example of great minds think alike. ;-) I moved it further under the huge shrub and put it in the pot with my Dragon fruit who is very happy there and seems to have similar care. I've read dragon fruit can't take our full sun so well. And it's growing like a weed where it is with no burn. I will also feed them, I'm sure both will need it. And I'll keep an eye on the new growth. If it starts to yellow, I will find them a better place. There's an arch that will eventually be covered with a vine which would shade them further. The vine should be there now, but I got behind this summer somewhere. LOL! DC~ I'm not surprised you have this plant too! LOL! It seems we have similar taste. ;-) Mine came from Arid lands, and eventually will be going in a mixed planter for my Hybrid Aloes. I also want one I've seen refereed to as a "worm" :-) Josh~ No, I never tire of hearing about our intense sun. lol... I'm used to it and the challenges it faces. That cold stuff you and the rest of the group face would kill me. ROFL! I've thought about a greenhouse or shaded structure for them, but I really like my stuff scattered around the yard, so for now, I'll keep a closer eye on them. I never would have thought sun, because the smaller one is O.K. but maybe the fact that it's growing up instead of sprawled out has something to do with it not burning. Thanks again guys! :-) JoJo

That is Deadly Nightshade. I was hospitalized after pulling it from my garden with no gloves. I've lived and gardened here for 15 years, and the nightshade plant has always been here. It grew vine-like at first on the fence, but as it gets bigger starts to bush out a bit. I had heard of it's toxic potential but liked the wee purple flowers with bright yellow center, and I only ever found the one plant in my entire large yard. Several months ago while watching evening tv with my daughter, my arms began to burn. I pulled up my sleeves and saw that the skin was red. Those symptoms went away after 20 or 30 minutes, and I didn't think much of it. (I had been working in my main garden a couple hours before that and pulled the nightshade to make way for a butterfly garden) 2 months later I again was weeding and playing in the same bed and again pulled a nightshade. I went to bed at 9 that night, very early for me, but I was exhausted. I woke at 10:30 in a panic because I felt flames burning me in my bed. Thinking there was a fire I jumped up and was about to get my daughter when I realized there was no fire. But my back, arms & legs, face, were all burning as if on fire. I ran down the stairs and into the bathroom where I turned on the shower. i splashed cold water on my arms but it did no good. My husband came in to see what was wrong. I told him how I felt, which by this time included nauseous and weak. I felt like falling to the floor... To be continued after I drop my daughter off at the fair.

oakley, if this eases your mind at all: our daughter's first dog-friend (in mean old West Philly) was a Rott who had been abandoned on a street corner because she refused to fight. A friend of ours who was known in the community as an animal advocate (which is quite a thing, since most of the Vet School kids lived in our building) got an anonymous call one night, telling her that there was a Rott tied to something at a particular corner and that she should go pick it up, telling the story. Our huge-hearted friend went right out and took the Rott into her home, no questions asked, with her one cat and her fish...named her Lady the next day because she was such a complete--well, Lady. Lady never once did anything untoward or even questionable; her behavior almost always made me cry, actually, in a good way. After meeting our little baby daughter for the first time, she instantly positioned herself between DD and the lobby door, and stood guard. She did that for over a year, dealing with DD touching her (not roughly, but not incredibly gently either), putting her arms around her, etc., until we moved out of state. I have pics of them together. I'm crying again thinking about it; what must Lady have seen to have adopted that behavior? She just *loved* our DD. She didn't growl when people came near DD, just sniffed them to make sure they were o.k. as any good bodyguard would : ). She had a great long life with our friend and her orange male cat (whom our friend walked on a leash, not kidding), moved out of West Philly to Connecticut, and ended her days happily on some small acreage with the aforementioned cat (who is also a Character--and still alive!), a Lady to the end. So Lady taught us that Rotts aren't always to be scared of. At least one we knew was purely, immediately and forever, noble.
