Eat, Pray, Love

Anyone see it? I did and didn't like it. Maybe I'm the only one, but I thought it was too long and the character was way too self absorbed. I read the book and the sequel. If that's made into a movie , I won't be going.

I haven't seen it but one of my coworkers did. Her comments were the same as yours (other than I don't think she's read the book or sequel).

A friend saw it and thought it was great. I plan to go see it tomorrow with some friends. I loved the book.

It's sort of nice to get those rambling, autumnal, busy, days. MWheel, the GW has been acting strange for me for a week. I'm lucky to even get to the forums lately. If I disappear it's because they have some new banner or pop-up my computer doesn't like and is trying to block. I used to know the name of that tool you scrape with...a blade on a long wooden handle. That's what late middle age does to you. I use one in my chicken shed to scrape up poop, but I don't think the dirty word filters here would accept me calling it a S**t scraper and that's what I call it. I have ten dozen irons in the fire now, and don't seem to be wrapping up on one before I stick another one in. None of it is by choice, or I wouldn't. I got over being depressed about all of it and just plug along trying to keep the head above water and find something pleasant to divert my attention. The insomnia is subsiding, at least. I can't seem to get excited about halloween this year. This is the first time in my life I haven't been. I have always loved it and decorated for it. I hope this is just a passing thing and not a sign of decrepit old age. LOL.

Mantis not a problem in our garden. The culprit here in our yard is the Brown Anoles(lizard). If you have an abundance of them beware! In earlier post I mentioned the wrens were eating mine. But after further surveilence I figured out it was the Brown Anoles who was wiping out my BST and GF cats. I found them living in a pile of firewood next to my Fennel and passionvine. I've since built a cage to house a few caterpilars and I moved the wood pile. Nature will win out everytime but I like the challanges.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil is probably one book that I read before seeing the movie - and I still enjoyed the movie!!! Unusual, and I have been to Savannah since, and was fascinated by the city!! I don't read nearly enough anymore - the upcoming hospital stay will change that. I love English mysteries - PD James, Deighton, Dick Francis - pure escapism. I am slogging my way through "And No Birds Sang", WWII, Farley Mowat - I love his writing, and it is the stories of the Allies landing in Sicily, and the battles up to Rome. My Dad was there, so I need to put it down often. If you are interested in the sea, Mowat's "Grey Seas Under" is a very moving biography of a tug boat. Yes, a tug boat, and you will come to care for that boat like a friend, or favoured pet!! Nancy. - oh yes, and I loved the mini-series a Year in Provence - how could you not love something with John Thaw in it!!!

Thanks for link, Covingtoncat! I enjoyed seeing her home, and although at first she seemed just a little too silly, she was fun! I enjoyed her tour and loved her skybrary, too. I was just a little horrified at seeing the wood in the basement - yikes - and wondered how far from the dining room the kitchen is - I didn't go back to the beginning of the video to check but suspect one must go through the sitting room off the kitchen to get to the DR, I assume the same sitting room that is off the DR...too much of a distance, for me. But the house was charming, and I, too, may file away ideas to use someday with those fanning-out cobble-stone lined garden beds with the path bisecting each piece....She seems like the type of person who takes on a challenge, and when it's done, wants to tackle another. I hope she gets as much satisfaction from her next home/project!

Haven't seen it, tried to get the book at my library but there's a long wait list. I'll have to wait for it to come on TV.

I went to see it last night with a friend. I don't go to that many movies, and I just saw the beginning of it. It seemed predictable and "formula" like, but fine. I like Julia Roberts, and I like her movies, but I had to leave after 20 minutes because I got hit with a migraine. I struggled with it a bit outside, but I got pretty sick, and my friend came out and drove me home. Wish I would have seen it.

It will be interesting to see how people like it. I usually always go to only movies with 3 or 4 stars and this one had a 61% liking on one site . Roger Ebert gave it 2 stars and his readers gave one star. I like Julia Roberts. In fact I liked everyone in the movie and the scenery is wonderful. The plot was too weird, and I know it's true but what person who's not happy with her life chucks it all and goes around the world?? Since I emailed a few friends, I found some of them felt the same way. Others hadn't seen it yet. Last week I saw The Kids Will Be All Right which I thought was a way better movie and no hype. A low budget artsy movie made in 22 days.

The idea-you're unhappy with life, so go off on a Trip Around the World. Who can afford it? Julia Roberts, sure, she could leave the kids with a nanny, etc.

I haven't seen it so it's probably not fair for me to post, but I'm always suspicious of movies which are
heavily hyped before they come out, like this one.

I did not go but several friends went to see it last night, they are all giving it a huge thumbs up. Can't wait to see it!

I heard last night on some "news" program that this movie is being merchandised to the nth degree. There are even scented candles to "take you on a trip" to another country. I think I found the article that the news was quoting.

I saw it yesterday and really liked it. I thought they did a good job of following the book. Julia Roberts did a great job with her role.

Lily--I assume you liked the book since you read the sequel? I've not read the book nor seen the movie (maybe when it hits Redbox!), but did she seem less self-absorbed in the book? Curious to know.

I rarely go to see a movie version of a book I've read. Or vice versa, if my memory serves. When I'm reading a book, and probably everyone does this, there's a movie running in my brain--what I imagine the scenery to look like, the main characters. I guess I just don't want to muck that up with some producer's vision.

(OK, I just thought of one book/movie combo I saw and enjoyed equally well: "84 Charring Cross Road," with Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins about a London book store.)

You know Pammy, I can't remember what I thought of her when I read the book. I think it's been over three years now. I liked the book but it didn't rank as a book I'd predict would be on the best seller list for years as it apparently is/was. I love movies and had just seen 'The Kid Are All Right' which I didn't know if I'd like but I did ..very much. I'm not a lesbian but I identified with this movie and their family life much more than with Liz. . My expectations were too high for Eat Pray Love. I like Julia Roberts and all the male actors in this. .I just thought..who does this? She left a nice husband who did nothing to her I guess but bore her, and left a gorgeous guy after the husband whom she really loved to "find herself".I guess I couldn't picture myself getting up at 4AM to pray/meditate and live like a peasant. I'd at least want a 4 star hotel..
