Thanks for the revue of the movie, Pidge. I would like to see it. When you wrote "The theater had 100+ people and exactly three men,". I decided to take a look and see what was happening here. After reading the article below, I figured that the movie was made to target us ladies "especially involving companies who service the filmâÂÂs target demographic of females 30-50 years old." No wonder the men did not show up, they had not been "targeted" for this movie. I may still see the movie, but I will not buy a single promotional item. As shocking and sad that a mantis can actually catch a hummer (which amazed me), I expect it is an EXTRAORDINARILY rare event. In my 25 years of organic gardening (encouraging mantises among other beneficial insects), I have never seen a mantis with anything larger than a grasshopper or moth. And in untold numbers of weeding events, I have never found a hummingbird carcass on the ground among the flowers. Mantids aren't perfectly beneficial; they will catch a few "good" insects, too. But they shouldn't be considered any real threat to hummers either. Heck, I kept one as a "pet" for a couple of months once (put it on a thread leash and fed it moths). They are relatively safe to handle. You can just grab them gently from behind (like pinching a pencil in the middle) and they can't reach you. Or just put a long stick in front of them and they will generally get on it (they are afraid of you). Or push them into a slippery bowl and dump them on any plant away from the hummer feeders; they do not usually travel far. I'm a hummer-lover, but I am also mantis-friendly...

Hi again, Thanks for the follow ups... First, I had no idea that the mantis were wild harvested, and like you, think this is not acceptable. I guess I imagined a mantis farm where they breed thousands...but, no, not if they go and take them from their habitat. However your comment "Mantids not as much because the ones people are buying are not native usually to begin with. " does that imply there are mantis farms? I can certainly research it on the web also, just thought if you knew. Second, the suggestion for nematodes for specific climate...again...wow, had not thought of that either...and don't know if the nematode place would have brought that up. Third, no, will not spray permectrin again...it was a last ditch attempt... And we too have seen the frontline will sometimes work on ticks, sometimes not, same with fleas. Depends on the year and who has resistance...last year we switched to Advantage for awhile and that seemed to work, but we are reading some things that give us cause for pause...most all the products caution against using on elderly or otherwise compromised animals, and that is what we have a preponderance of. We don't have "grass" to speak of, being on the side of a mountain in the middle of the woods...one year we spread sulfur around the immediate areas and it drove the ticks off...this winter has been very mild so the ticks should be in abundance. Do any of you know if the sulfur would hurt the nematodes? Also, diatameous earth? We plan to start spraying early, as soon as we are sure the last freeze is over. We are expecting that to come early...will spay liberally and every 2 months we are thinking...a trial and error sort of thing. You know Pammy, I can't remember what I thought of her when I read the book. I think it's been over three years now. I liked the book but it didn't rank as a book I'd predict would be on the best seller list for years as it apparently is/was. I love movies and had just seen 'The Kid Are All Right' which I didn't know if I'd like but I did ..very much. I'm not a lesbian but I identified with this movie and their family life much more than with Liz. . My expectations were too high for Eat Pray Love. I like Julia Roberts and all the male actors in this. .I just thought..who does this? She left a nice husband who did nothing to her I guess but bore her, and left a gorgeous guy after the husband whom she really loved to "find herself".I guess I couldn't picture myself getting up at 4AM to pray/meditate and live like a peasant. I'd at least want a 4 star hotel..
