Yipee I got a bargain today....

Denny had to leave his car at the shop today and wanted me to pick him up. I assumed we would be going home. But no, he wanted to get some lunch first. While heading there my daughter called me to remind me I was picking the kids up from early out at school....oops....I had forgotten. So I didn't have time to run home to grab a book to read while I was at their house.

I decided to stop at the grocery store and buy a Nora Roberts book. It was $14.95 with a 25% off. When I got to school I got the book out to read and happened to look at the receipt. She didn't give me my % off. After getting the kids settled in my car I drove back to store, my book and receipt in hand to get my money back.

She made a phone call , did a bunch of number punching, and started counting out my money. She gave me the full amount and picked up the book.

I said..."No, I want the book" I thought she had missunderstood me. She said their store policy was to refund the full amount when there was a mistake like that made....She put my book in the sack and said "Have a good day and enjoy your book!"

I was thrilled, because I shouldn't have bought the book anyway...LOL...I usually buy mine at the thrift for 59 cents.

Anyway...it made my day....

That IS a bargain! It's hard to beat F-R-E-E.

I got two recently. One was Saturday when I went online to Penneys web site to order a set of dishes. It was a service for 12 that was regularly $199 -- and in the sale bill they were just $99. When I went online to order them, they were just $79!

Another was a bumper we had replaced on my truck recently. DH got estimates in the spring, and one body shop was nearly the same cost for a new one as to repair the hole in the old one (about $450). A few months later, DH calls the one and asks if the estimate is still good. Body shop says yes, so husband made appointment. We took the truck in. Body shop calls husband to tell him the truck is nearly done---and there was a mistake with the esimate. Bumper cost $1200 but they will "eat" part of their mistake and it will only cost us $900. When the dust settled, body shop stood by their estimate and we did, in fact, get a $1200 bumper for $450. We didn't know their estimate was wrong...just knew that for about the same price as fixing the old one, we could have a brand new one.

Christie, just take some cuttings from non-blooming tips...strip off bottom leaves...dip in rooting powder and stick in a cell pack of damp potting soil. I like to place the cell packs down in a large clear plastic bag and set near a window. Don't keep them too "close" and damp. Save those big bags that big packs of paper towel come in..a little print on it won't hurt. Tie it off at the top and use the string to tie the top up to something so it won't lay down on the plants. Near a window is good, or under a good light. They root pretty fast...I did a whole bunch last year and planted them out...they are big this year. Think I did them in late May or early June. Ooops! Forgot to mention that I am talking about Salvia, May Night. LOL

Thanks you all! Yep, the $500 is mostly gone. I needed a bigger wood stove for the greenhouse to keep the temps up and I needed some more firewood and some computer work done. I'll tell you something funny about this contest though. I had gotten hacked into, had some trojans put on my desktop from some very mean people and after all that, when they called and told me I won, I thought it was whoever had hacked into my puter making a prank call. I didn't believe it until the mag was sent and I actually saw it in print! LOL Oh, and I got hacked again last night but I learned how to use the tools in Norton. Did you know that the intruder blocker also gives you a log file so that you can report the person that does it? Yep, my hacker was from Reston, VA. And it stated plainly right on there that the computer was stationary (not portable). Told me who's server they went through ect, ect. I think that is cool. So, anywho, I am as happy as a pig in a pile of potato peelings. I will remember that about the seeds. How do you normally write articles? Do you have an idea and find the mag that will publish it or do you find one that is sort of up your alley personality-wise and try to write for their readership? That is where I've always had a problem. When you submit photos, are they digital or do you submit old fashioned paper copies? I am interested in writing an article for Backwoods Home. They ask for photos or transparencies. All I have is this rinky dink digital I bought at Walmart. I would really like to submit something that would be up to par of their regular contributors but I really don't know what expectations they have. Or am I just trying to tell myself I'm not up to par?

I've seen your bargains, but if you want to zip down here, we can go out bargain hunting together and really do some damage! Jane: you have the turquoise? I saw a few of those recently; they're lovely! I have 4 (or 6?) of the same pattern in the cream and really like them. It's scary when you have so many dishes you can't remember things like that! You should have seen DD yesterday when she saw the 3 new groups of dishes (ROFLMAO). There was a lot of eye rolling! Jeanne: yes, you are a very bad/good enabler! "Elmer, I bet you don't like Rum Chata" mary, this isn't something I've heard of but I looked it up. I don't like the taste of horchata so I don't think I'd like it. But, doesn't it make sense that mixing flavors with spirits is something very different than mixing with wine? That's what a cocktail is, different flavors mixed with spirits. Kahlua, or Baileys, or any one of a number of combos of flavors with spirits, all good. Even different chocolate liqueurs might be of interest. Fruit cake or cookies with rum, etc. Just not with wine. It's not really a mixable thing to my taste.

That is a great price on a new book! I love Nora Roberts - and I also buy them at the second hand store.

I have been getting some Tami Hoag books - since I have all the second hand Nora Roberts books read already.

Let me know if the book is good.

I went to wash the car Sunday, and where I go gives you a FREE wash after so many. Mine was free. That's good because I only had $4.00 on me and was going to have to use my debit card.

I go to two different manicure places in my town. Both keep track of your visits and every tenth manicure is free. Right now I'm due two free nail polishings.

I love it when you get something you want for free! The best deal recently was the 2 YO bike I bought. It is an aluminum frame so very light weight. I can put it in the back of the Jeep and take it to ride on the trail by the beach. It is in great shape and has lots of expensive parts on it. On of them was special foot pedals. I wanted regular ones. These are for special bike shoes that you lock into the pedals. It helps to keep your feet on the pedals when going down hill at 50 MPH. Turns out DH has the exact shoes for those pedals. He always wanted them but didn't want to pay $100. And he rides with a bunch of guys who do go down hill that fast. So he swapped the pedals with his bike. I paid $60 for a bike that originally cost $310, and that came with new add on $100 pedals. So it was like getting them for free!
