awww gibby...I'm so sorry you lost a little friend...it's so sad when the young are taken from us...My parents best friends lost a grandchild at age 2 from drowning...I was 10 years old at the time and I'll never forget that funeral...everyone was sooo devastated...

I heard about her death on the news. Very sad indeed. My condolences to you and all of her family and friends. That was quite a storm.

The only child's funeral I ever attended was that of a 7 year old boy, best friend and neighbor of my grandson, who was killed by a falling tree while he was camping. His dad was next to him and only scratched. He was a dear little boy....Carol, I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't know how people like you survive such a horrible twist of fate. The parents of this little boy had two more boys and have an another son and daughter as well. I think of this little kid a lot knowing he'd just be entering his teen years.

I am so sorry, I had heard about this (and my first thought was of Carol in California). My friend's son died at 16 and it was so hard on her, and I didn't know what to do for her except to be there for her whenever I could. Don't be afraid to talk about her whenever your friend wants to, and let her grieve as long as she needs (people kept telling my friend it she had grieved long enough..one even to "get her head out of her a$$), life will never be the same for her, but eventually she will, with true friends support, realize it will go on.

I went to the funeral of a baby of some regular customers of our C-store in Anaconda MT. He died of crib death and was only 4 months old. I'll never forget the tiny white coffin. Then I went to the funeral of a teen girl, another regular customer, who died in an auto accident. It seemed like the whole high school attended. All too young to be gone so soon. Sad.

You are right, Gibby. It certainly puts everything in perspective. Not only that, but when you raise a family and think about all that could have gone wrong, accidents, health, etc., you realize how fortunate you really are.

So sorry to hear this. I worked with a woman who had lost two sons-one hit by a car, the other had a virus that went to his brain. I can't imagine anything worse than losing a child.

My first thought was of Carol, too, when I heard about this on the news. So tragic.

Last year, I attended a funeral of a friend and former boss of mine. His little grand daughter died over night without apparent cause. She was about 1 yr old. It was a very sad family. That funeral was much harder to take than for someone aged 80 yrs old who had lead a full life and was ready to move on.

I was 8 years old when I attended the funeral of a 1 year old and his dad (my dad's cousin) who were killed in an auto accident. The vision of the tiny coffin certainly stays with you over the years.

Is this the child in Wisconsin? They took her to my hospital where she was pronounced. I was so happy I was not on call because I would have been there. Just a horribly tragic situation. I am so sorry for her loss. I cannot imagine the pain.

funerals for children are always the saddest...

The worst one I've ever been to was for a mother and her three boys...

They attended at our church. The mother was a troubled young mother.

She had her three young boys with her in a pick up truck and drove it into the river.

Im so sorry for the losses of these families. Our community lost a whole family in a car accident in Nov. The mom and dad were young 20's. The baby girl was 20 months old. The mother was pregnant with the baby boy (did c section at accident) and he did not survive. All losses are devastating, but it always seems worse to me when it is children. My sympathies to all.

sleeperblues - yes this was the girl from Minnesota that was killed in Wisconsin. It's eerie to read that others have known children who died in this kind of accident. It seems like such a freak accident that it would never happen to anyone you know and that you'd certainly not "cross paths" with others who've experienced this.

I just cannot fathom how hard it would be to suddenly lose a child like this.

I was camping not far from where this tragedy happened. I can't imagine losing a child. That is so very sad.

I've been to my share of child funerals and it never gets easier. It is a sight I don't think I'll ever forget.

My prayers go out to you and your family.

I was in Eau Claire when that storm hit and it was no where near as bad as in Burnett County. My surgeon and his wife were on a motorcycle trying to beat the storm home and a tree fell on them. They survived with minimal damage to either other than some horrible road rash. They are doing counseling at work for the people involved in the little girls case as it was very disturbing and sad. My heart goes out to you and to her family.
