About that 'perfect' chocolate cake

Today is my DDIL's birthday so I decided to bake her a cake instead of buying one.I had copied the recipe for the "Perfect Chocolate Cake" from Glenda's post a few days ago so decided to make it.

I followed the directions to the letter.Didn't have anything but 2-8 in. round pans so I poured in the amount of batter that I normally do for that size pan and put the rest into a cupcake pan, enough for 9 cupcakes.I put everything in the oven and set the timer and sat down for some computer time.About 15 minutes later I asked DH if he smelled something burning.Smelled like paper.I thought maybe someone was shooting fireworks somewhere and caught something on fire.Got up and checked the oven and the cakes had run out over the top of the pans and was running down into the cupcake pans and into the bottom of the oven and everything was beginning to burn!Even the cupcakes were ruined.Just made me sick.I don't know what happened because I followed the instructions exactly.Anyway, ended up going to Wal Mart and getting a Red velvet cake. She told me it was the thought that counts anyway.LOL

I have wondered if there might be something wrong with the oven as there have been a couple of other time I have baked something and it either cooked too fast around the edges or fell in the middle.Never had anything this bad happen though.
