ABC's Downfall show

Has anyone seen this??

The wanton destruction of useful items just horrifies me. If a contestant misses an answer, the prize on a conveyor belt is dumped off a 10-story building. This includes refrigerators, ovens, and cars. What purpose is served by destroying perfectly good stuff by dumping over the side of a building?!

I have written the network, and of course, within a few minutes got an automated reply. So, I did what I could immediately, but I will also be writing a paper letter.

I've seen the commercials and I won't watch either. What a waste... when so many people today have nothing.

downfalls of buying sink/faucet online?

I have a Shaw's. Installing is not straight forward because you need to decide BEFORE the sink base cabinet is ordered how the sink will be installed so the cabinet will be the right height and the front of the sink base will be right. The front of the Shaws are curved and there is a slight irregularity all around -- 2-3%. So, in addition to the height of the sink base you need to determine IN ADVANCE how you want the sink to sit in relationship to the countertops and how far back or forward it will be in the cabinet. That affects the counters too. As someone said upthread, best is to have the sink before the cabinets arrive. Have a full discussion BEFORE ordering the cabinets with whomever is making them about the size variance in the sink and all the other factors. If they've never installed one before, it's best to provide them with a photo of exactly what you want. There are many around. Here's a step by step on one sink so you can see some of the issues. If you're buying on line be sure the sink is in stock and there won't be any wait. Don't trust the website -- call. I also take the precaution of googling reviews of any site I am thinking of buying from before I buy. See what the positives and negatives are. I also look to see what their return policy is. Generally, I won't pay a restocking fee. If you're buying via ebay or some discount you mentioned be sure to call Rohl in advance and find out about the waranty. Settle with the seller who is liable in case of shipping damage and be sure it's properly insured with you as the beneficiary. I believe UPS does this automatically. Also, this is a very heavy sink. Check on delivery policy -- where it will be delivered to -- bottom of the driveway, inside the garage? back door? etc. It's not a package you can pick up and move easily. Also, when it's delivered be sure you're there to open the package and inspect the sink. It means someone strong enough to lift it out of the packaging needs to be around so you can be sure there are no cracks anywhere. Keep a camera handy in case. No amount of words can document like a single pic. If there's anything wrong be sure to take multiple photos from all angles in decent light. Mine is going on 9. Friend just changed from Yahoo to SRT (local phone company) as both Yahoo and AOL block too many other companies. Put a virus in her computer, AGAIN!! Both companies and Earthlink fight too. It is sad these companies will not work together.

I thoroughly enjoyed what little I saw of the show on Thursday. I went down with the garden club on the bus, and spent 3 hours talking to people about irises, for the Victorian Iris Society display. Last year we gave out 2000 pamphlets, which meant we had record numbers at the show in late October, and an increase in membership during the year. I would have liked to have had more time to get round all the stalls. It seemed a lot greener than the flower and garden show in Autumn, which leans so much towards hard landscaping stuff, fountains and statuary, and overly modern design ideas. I would rather see greenery and colour. I particularly enjoyed seeing the wonderful displays of daffodils (in season) and potted orchids. I will certainly go again next year, but I might give the Autumn one a miss.

I haven't watched the show, and don't intend to watch it. The commercials for it simply didn't catch my interest enough to take up my time to watch the program.

So, having said that, are you certain that the items being dumped 10 stories are brand new? Is there any disclaimer, even in small print during the closing credits, as to whether or not the items may be nonfunctional?

I watched it last night, and they ran a disclaimer several times stating that the items were not real, just facsimilies of real products.

David Letterman used to dump items off the top of a building. It would hit the pavement and go splatt....people must have thought it was "funny"?

Real, or as stapleface reported, not real it's still just another dumb show. Guess the networks are tired of paying real writers to write decent shows. Sad.

No, it's not that. It's that television audiences have proven over and over again (by ratings and polls) that they are not willing to invest the mental energy to pay attention to and understand scripted shows. They want mindless entertainment and "reality" shows. Scripted shows are much more expensive to produce, and the production companies and networks aren't going to spend the money on shows with low ratings. Look at all of the well-written scripted shows that have been canceled in the last year or so. It's disheartening.

They should do it right. If the contestant gets the answer wrong, the contestant is thrown off a 10 story building. I'd find this a lot more interesting than "Jon & Kate grate on your nerves" and "Watch the Duggars multiply". The IQ of a lot of viewers is certainly questionable. Can't blame the networks for putting on something that people watch.

I take it this is on cable?

Look at all of the well-written scripted shows that have been canceled in the last year or so. That's the reason I don't watch many of the new scripted shows. I get interested in the storyline and characters... then POOF! At least if they cancel a reality show after 1 season I've already seen the end. :-)

Not saying I love most reality shows, but I do watch a few.

It's the dumbing down of America. In the 50's and 60's TV was at it's prime and had excellent shows on for nine months of the year. Bring back the good old days.
