My ice maker wont work!

Hi everyone!

I have so many new things with which to get familiar.

My favorite is the dish washer (My first!)

I can't figure out why my ice maker doesn't work. Also the water dispensor runs VERY slowly. Once in a while it makes tiny little ice wafers. It seems to be lacking in water supply, but we can't figure out why. This problem isn't addressed in the manual. The brand is Frigidaire and it is a side-by-side. It's new although it is already four years old.

I know there is a forum for appliances, but it is even slower than the KT on weekends.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I know the tubing on mine is copper and very easy to bend.Maybe yours got kinked when it was pushed in against the wall....just a thought. Or maybe the filter is clogged,mine has an inline filter on it.

Hi CR, I've missed you!

Since it is "new" except for having been running (for home showings) for four years. Tomorrow I will check the filter. The tubing is vinyl and it isn't krimped. The valve is also opened all the way.

hey-i just moved from ga to fl and my unit was in storage for 2 months-it was working great before we left-I plugged it back in and the water dispenser(in the front where the ice dispenser is)is working great-i ran about 5 gallons through it to make sure no air is in the line-I checked the laser to make sure nothing is blocking and made sure the ice maker control is on as well---it seems as if no water is going up the line in the back (which is to the ice maker part-I think)What should I do-I have unplugged the unit and my next step was going to be pull the pump out and make sure all lines are empmty and try again???????????????????????????thanks for your help

We just moved in to a new house and there's a side-by-side fridge with an ice maker. We moved the fridge to put a new floor in and had to empty all the ice out and un-hook the water. We put the fridge back, hooked everything back up and everything was working fine. About a month later, the ice was smelling funny so I had my husband empty it all out so it could start fresh, but it never started producing ice again. The manual says that if you have removed a large amount of ice, it can take 24 hours for it to start producing ice again, but it's been longer than that. The water dispenser is working fine. Any ideas?

Hope you figure it out, Judy. I wonder if the supply line is turned on all the way?

Our new fridge wouldn't make any ice for the 1st 12 hours, at 3 AM we both woke up when we heard a big clunk and exclaimed, in relieved unison, "ICE"! lol

make sure your freezer side is turned up...maybe with it being empty it was turned down to one...crank that thing up!! he colder the freezer, the more ice you'll have!

If it was out of operation for awhile, it needs to get the air out of the lines. Just a thought.

Know your frustration- DS & DIL were here last week when ours quit & we had to buy crushed ice to dump in the ice "catcher." By the time they left yesterday I was too blamed tired to investigate but MUST tomorrow- gas is too high to run to town every few days & we're big on iced tea & water.

Hope we both find problem quick & a no cost solution!

Judy, possibly the bigger tube that enters right at the back of your fridge has a frozen piece of ice in it. If you can pull it out from the freezer, rinse it clear and put it all back together, that might get the ice going again. That's the problem we have with ours occasionally.

If you want to take a chance on making your water in front, come out faster, take a pen or something like that and make the water hole bigger. Our repairman did that and it does dispense a little better. If this advise is wrong, I know nothing about it..lol. I call myself Tonimygivver at home. Let's see how I can make this work....some days it works some days it doesn't.

I don't have an ice maker, wish I did. I make ice the old-fashioned way. I have four ice cube trays and re-fill them as I go along. Happiness is when I have four full trays! My kids are drinking ice tea and lemonade all the time!

Judy, if you pull the tube out of the freezer, pull the fridge out from the wall and do it all from the back.

OK, Here are some answers:

Flamey, I'd like to hear that big klunk, I only hear little tinkles once in a while.

Liz, I just turned it all the way up/down (colder) it was on factory setting.

OK-W, I haven't noticed any sputtering.

GrittyMitts, I hope you are enjoying ice soon too.

Toni, I was brave in just pulling the fridge out from the cabinet. You sound very mechanically minded, a real fix-it-up person. I don't see anything that I would feel comfy about pulling out. At the bottom, the stuff is covered with a cardboard shield. YIKES! I'd have to find a tool somewhere. I only set aside the basics.

Jannie, That is the dependable way. LOL

Joan, LOL I ccould have done those in 10 minutes and a lot less water! They came out clean!

You know the old saying -- If nothing else works, read the directions. Well, that didn't work either. They said for a new appliance , hold the water dispenser thingy (I don't think they called it that!) for 3 minutes to fill the water resivor. WOW, that sounded hopeful! But it didn't improve anything. After that, I tasted some of the water and it tasted awefull! Tomorrow we will get a new filter that is reachable from in the refrigerator side.
