Interesting wedding

Yesterday I attended the wedding of two women I know from church. Unfortunately, they were not able to get married in our Methodist church but the ceremony was in the United Church of Christ. The officiant was a man who is not a pastor but he did a great job and our pastor participated in the ceremony.Both women women had been married before and have grown children who participated in the ceremony and were very happy for their mothers. I think it is wonderful that people can marry whomever they love.

Of course. Isn't it too bad they can't do so anywhere they want to? Makes me wonder why they wouldn't rather participate with a church of an affiliation that supports a more broadly inclusive and loving doctrine?

Some years ago, before the momentum grew in support of same sex marriages, the eminent philosopher Kinky Friedman said the following:

"I support gay marriage. I think they have a right to be as miserable as the rest of us."

I love your dress too! There are quite a few dresses like that now, and I do agree, it looks good to have a little color on the bride's dress, too. This summer when my daughter was married, we also purchased all the flowers from Safeway. Pat, at the Safeway here in Bdn. did an awesome job. My daughter's bouquet was in the same idea as yours but she chose all red roses. The bridesmaids carried a miniature version of hers by carrying 3 white roses. Since Kristin was in white carrying red roses, and her bridesmaids wore red carrying white roses and the flowergirl wore white carrying a basket of red roses (fake) with real rose petals also in the basket, it made for stunning pictures. The guys already all had their own black suits. The groom wore a white shirt with a white tie with a red rose on his lapel. The groomsmen wore white shirts, a red tie and each had a white rose in their lapel. The ringbearer wore black pants, white shirt, a red bow tie and a red rose and, of course, carried a white ringbearer pillow. The flowers were $320 including taxes. Of course that price also includes all the flowers for the mothers, fathers, grandparents, guest book attendants, pastor and music. Shauna, you may have sons now, but...someday you will have daughters-in-law. My husband is one of 4 boys of whom 3 were married. My mother-in-law, when I expressed interest, gave me all her china and the china cabinet. It is a pattern called Kentish Rockery which has a garden scene on it. I love it and she knew I would cherish it. I also expressed interest in preserving her doll that she had when she was a little girl. She gave it to me in a glass case and it is beside my doll on display in our bedroom. Knitting, crocheting, sewing and gardening were all interests that we had in common (besides her son) and I am so glad that I was able to share those interests with her. She's been gone for a few years now. Now...I wish I had also taken time and slowly gone through all the photo albums with her, to really get an idea of her history as displayed in the pictures she had kept over the years. Oh, well...

Hi Julia. I planted them in 4 in. pots about March. But you could plant them directly in the ground and they would do fine. The seeds I had were several years old and I think every one of them came up and grew fast. They are still looking good. I'd like to plant them in the front, but I don't know if the deer would eat them. Does anyone know if they are deer munchies?

You need to work with a local Contractor who can first identify load bearing walls - if you have a design/build facility in your area I'd go there as they have both designers who can visualize and contractor's who can identify load and can do the work.

Something arranged like this would be much easier to care for. (The plants are not specific.) Remove low hanging limbs from the large trees. The Forsythia would be better elsewhere with more room/not blocking a window.

Yes, I think people who love each other should be able to have a legal relationship, receive a blessing from their religious community also, according to their natures.

I should have mentioned that our congregation is a reconciling congregation which "welcomes and affirms all persons without regard to gender, ethnic background, sexual orientation", etc. But the United Methodists world-wide can't come to a commitment to agree with that. Therefore, our pastors are prohibited from performing same sex marriages. Our pastor did participate in this wedding and mentioned how he was looking forward to the day that he can perform these marriages in our church. There are at least four families in our church that have openly gay adult sons or daughters. Gay people feel welcome and accepted in our congregation.

Imagine the day when......all unions, commitments, marriages are accepted and are not whispered about, talked about, or discussed on forums such as this because they're nothing out of the ordinary. They'll ALL just be accepted.

Last year, a female pastor/minister performed many civil marriages at City Hall. She either had to quit her post as a minister, or stop officiating the marriages as her church does not believe in same-sex marriages.

She loved doing it, and the people she married, loved her.
What a shame.

The world has changed quickly and for the better. I can't recall any societal change happening quite this fast. Wonderful and amazing!

linda_in_iowa Our local United Methodist Church has an openly gay female pastor. The catch with their congregation is she agreed to remain celibate. Well, not only celibate, but not in a same sex relationship at all.
I don't get it. Either you accept her or you don't.
I was so happy for some of my friends...they were planning to go to NJ first week in May to get married, and one them got sick. It was to be a private ceremony, so no big deal, they postponed.
Timing is everything they say...only a couple weeks later it became legal in PA. YAY!! So after 30 years together, they are finally happily, legally married!

Salgal, all single United Methodist pastors are supposed to remain celibate until marriage. The church tends to look the other way though. We keep hoping every year that things will change in all the United Methodist churches.
