OMG. DO you know the variety name. your seeds are probably going to fail. to make eggplant seeds you MUST allow the eggplant to remain on the plant for a very long time after ready to eat. well maybe you can leave it indoors on a counter. It is most important that the seeds remain in the eggplant as long as possible. when eggplant is made for seeds they leave the eggplant on the plant until it goes at least brown and changes to where it can no longer be eatten. Those eggplant look super good and I would love to grow them. Hope you know the variety name. hope I can find them. hope you get some good seeds for next year. best would have been probably to leave one plant with some eggs on them until as late as possible to harvest. hopefully leaving in the kitchen for a month or more will help. here is a short quote off the seed savers exchange website. Seed Saving: Isolate 1/4 mile from other eggplants to prevent crossing. Let the fruits grow far past maturity, so that the seeds can be removed from the soft flesh. Most seeds are brown and are usually located at the bottom of the fruit. below is the story with pictures of someone who failed because he did not let them go long enough. interesting read and pictures on saving eggplant seeds. they germinated when new but not in the spring. they died because they were not ripe enough. those are great eggplant seed do you remember where they came from. Sigh. Well, that's pretty typical. We saw and purchased this house in very early spring, when it looked lush, but not much was identifiable. We've since discovered that 90% of what the previous owners planted is invasive. I thought this one would be okay, but I should have known better! Right now it's doing battle with mint, lamium, and ivy, so that's probably why it's not spreading more. Thanks!

The swap was so much fun and great company! Thank you everyone for the great plants, lots of special just-my-cup-od-tea things came home with me....although they are NOT in the ground yet. (Sheesh, y'all are fast!) I did get most of the garden weeded in prep for a little local Berea swap (that went well too, gave away a lot of extra divisions), so the flowers are looking great. This is the first time I've had a real, mature garden, at least a large section of it. My babies are all grown up! It's been a busy week and I forgot to get back here for post-swap banters. (again, slow) I will pass on the extra compliments to the chef! Marcia, I'll keep you posted on the daylily color and get a photo if it isn't the lavender one. Linda, I'm sorry I forgot to bring any large pots. It fell off my radar completely. I hope you have some alternatives for the tomato experiment. (Check at the WalMart bakery. They often have 2 & 5gal icing buckets that work really well & have a great handle on them.)
